NFL Hall of Famer, Pittsburgh Steeler legend Franco Harris passed away at 72.
He had just done an interview hours before his passing and there was no indication that anything was even wrong!
Franco was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl IX, played in January 1975. That was the beginning of the 1970s Steelers dynasty.
Undoubtedly his most famous moment, which happened exactly 50 years ago TODAY (Dec 23, 1972), and perhaps one of THE MOST famous incidents in NFL History was "The Immaculate Reception", an AFC Divisional Playoff game against the then Oakland Raiders.
Tomorrow (Christmas Eve) the Steelers are retiring #32, only the third number retired by the team in its history. That was their plan even before Franco passed away. He was scheduled to take part during the ceremonies at the game, which is being played against the now LAS VEGAS Raiders.
Such a terrible shock to me. Two links to my childhood now gone this month, the other was the passing of my beloved aunt back on Dec 2nd.
