First let me say I am thrilled to be the center square on MG/HS Hour. It's a delight to participate!
Second, I am ever so honored and flattered too that my Star Wheel idea/rendition was adopted for the Super Match round! I like the fact that all 9 celebrities have an equal chance of playing the head to head round plus the fact that all 9 now have a chance to have it land on the "50" spot!
Third, I find the Hollywood Squares part much more exciting with the advent of higher payouts per game as well as higher random cash awards for every captured square. All of these changes that have been implemented have really made the show sensational!
I want to propose two other ideas for all of you to consider. I will preface my first idea by saying that Doug and I spoke a while ago about the idea and he was lukewarm about it at best, and understandably so. He said he wants to keep the comic elements of Match Game front and center throughout the three rounds of play.
Let me outline it for you all. It's basically a copy of the 1990 version.
Segment 1 - Round 1, a comedic fill in the blank question played by all six celebrities. Award $50 per match.
Segment 2 - $50 Match-Up Round. Again all six celebrities would play, each one getting a different question with 2 possible answers from which the contestants would choose. $50 awarded per match.
Segment 3 - Round 2 of another funny fill in the blank question, again all six celebrities would participate.
Then a final Match-Up Round where each match is worth $100. A maximum score would still amount to $1,500.
It might prove rather difficult to incorporate the mechanics of the Match-Up round so I had an idea for a Plan B.
Keep all 3 Rounds as the comedy fill in the blank questions but payoffs as follows:
Round 1 - $50 per match
Round 2 - $75 per match
Round 3 - $125 per match
All six celebrities would get to play in all 3 rounds, the maximum score again would be $1,500. And to give each celeb a chance to "shine" with a different question, start with a different celebrity with each question when canvasing for the answers.
Super Match Idea:
Match Game PM always had 2 audience matches. I was thinking the same for MG/HS.
Only now each question has the top 5 answers, with $300 for the top, $250 for the second most popular, all the way down to $100 for the 5th most popular answer.
A maximum of $1,000 could be one per audience match, so 2 audience matches would be a potential for $2,000.
The contestant would get to keep making guesses until they uncover all 5 answers or until 3 incorrect guesses.
Two drawbacks with this idea, one, no celebrity interaction and two, it could prove time consuming. Furthermore, it would no doubt prove challenging to come up with many questions that would generate 5 possible answers.
Last night's MG/HS Hour on Buzzer would have been a good one. It was a head-to-head match with Jon Bauman and it was AIR _________
The player, who was in the military said "Conditioner". Jon, figuring she was in the military said "Force". "Supply", "Head", "Ball", "Raid", "Pollution" would all be good answers to that one, but I don't know how many Audience Match questions might be able to yield 5 possible answers.
In any event, just some ideas I was germinating upon for a while. Would be cool to see someone win like $1,350 with the 2 audience matches then play for 20, 30 or 50 times that amount, generating a lot of different possible jackpot total outcomes.
