There are some very popular things about game shows that I personally dislike, and would like to explain why. I'd also love to hear about any of yours as well.
I have never been a big fan of any version of "Pyramid". That being said, I do enjoy watching Dick Clark, and the end game is exciting of course, but it's a show I never really got into very much.
I believe the single biggest reason for me is it traumatized me back in 1973, when I was still in Kindergarten.
The Price Is Right had just debuted at 10:30am in Sept. 1972. During Easter break, The $10,000 Pyramid was in that time slot on CBS instead.
As it turned out, Price was moved to the afternoon, but I didn't know it back then, and I felt so crushed that the exciting game with prizes and numbers was suddenly gone...so for that reason it traumatized me.
Also, it lacks any play along factor unless you cover your eyes, which defeats the purpose of watching a program.
I did watch with baited breath when our own Jon Darrell was a contestant though. I was fully into that episode rooting him on.
Another part of me that goes against the grain...I detest the most popular pricing game on Price is Right. Plinko to me is stinko!
It is virtually impossible anymore to win all 4 chips for one thing.
For another, so often chips land in the zero. I recall at least one playing, an older lady won all 5 chips, and got nothing but zero every time!
To do well in the pricing portion of a game and not to win so much as one lousy penny?!?!?! Seriously? Heck even with Any Number you win at least a few dollars from the piggy bank!
Also my fear of heights comes into play. I'd probably get vertigo being up high on that board. When I was 4 or 5 years old, I fell down an entire flight of stairs, but it was moving stairs (escalator)...to this day, I can go up an escalator just fine, but going down on one...I struggle big time! I guess when it comes to Plinko, the only chips I will ever get from it are the chips on my shoulder. Such a big build up of FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, and it's rare if ever that someone wins more than 10K...
Anyway, those are 2 popular things that are unpopular with me. I'd love to hear yours!
