One of the hit board games this past Christmas is "Linkee", a trivia game where you have to figure out what the answers to four questions have in common. The game's British creators took their idea to the BBC show Dragon's Den (which we Americans adapted into Shark Tank), but they couldn't make a deal. Undeterred, they took their game to market where it became a hit. They also turned it into a successful quiz show called The Link, hosted by Mark Williams, perhaps best known Stateside for playing Ron Weasley's dad Arthur in the Harry Potter movies.
My version of the game hopes to improve on The Link somewhat. Here's how it should work:
Three players earn money by answering questions and figuring out what links the answers. I'll ask questions one at a time. The first player to ring in with a right answer gets $50 and the chance to guess the link. The fewer clues you need, the more money you get when you solve it. If you get it on the first clue, you get $500. If you need two, it's worth $300. A three-clue solve adds $200 to your score, and there's just $100 for linking all four clues. There's no penalty for a wrong guess anywhere.
After about 15 questions (we'll never leave a link unsolved), the third-place player is eliminated but gets to take home the cash in front of him. The two remaining players get to play Round 2, where dollar amounts are doubled, but everything else is the same.
The winner of Round 2 plays the Super Linkee bonus round. You'll have two "virtual minutes" to win up to $15,000 by solving three 5-question links. I'll ask the questions one at a time. Each question you can answer is worth $1, and each link you can find will multiply your bank by 10. If you don't know an answer, you can guess or pass and come back to it. Once you discover a link, you can work backwards to figure out the answers to the ones you passed on.
Any suggestions from the crowd?
