Didn't quite get off the ground last time, so let's give it a second crack, a 2015 reincarnation of WOR's popular 80's gameshow On The Spot, albeit with prizes and cash upgraded for inflation. And of course, a completely different local area, namely the coverage area of WRAL in NC, a certain Mr. Palmer's locality.
Thus, I need 3 contestants, rules will be explained as we go along. Alternatively, take a look at what the rough format will be:

And it's great to have all three of you with us here in Raleigh for On The Spot. Before we go into the game, we spot you all with $1,000.
MICHAEL: $1000
MATT: $1000
JAMES: $1000
And with that bit of accounting done, let's reveal the category board, 6 categories that we'll use all game, and only 3 questions in each category. You'll only see it now and at the beginning of Round 2 when they're replenished, so keep track mentally of how many questions remain in each category. We give you $100 per right answer, and deduct $100 for a wrong answer, or if you select an exhuasted category. The categories for today are:
SPORTS
POT POURRI
SCIENCE
THE 1980'S
STATE STUFF
WORDS
To clarify, STATE STUFF could pertain to US state symbols, flags, capitals, that sort of thing. All questions are on the buzzer, and we kick off with a toss-up question, which doesn't come from the categories you've just seen.
Where on your body would you most likely wear a snood?
[Buzzcode between 1 and 100 by PM, ideally with 24 hours gents.]

MICHAEL: $1000
MATT: $900

The official state beverage is milk, and the town of Rugby contains the geographical centre of the USA. Which state am I talking about?
