Starting with the next episode, there will be some revised rules. The complete rulesheet is listed below with the changes I plan to implement.
Kindest regards,
Bill
"THREE ON A MATCH" revised rulesheet, created Friday, January 9, 2015
"Three on a Match" is based on the 1971-1974 NBC Daytime television game show, a Bob Stewart Production.
No ownership of the game or the franchise is implied.
GENERAL RULE:
No more than three boxes in a given column may be exposed. This rule does NOT apply for the "Big Match" mini bonus game.
The top of the matching board will feature a payout chart.
OBJECT OF THE GAME:
Uncover an prize or item in one column, then uncover that same prize or item in each of the other 2 columns within 7 picks.
THE MATCHING BOARD:
The matching board consists of three columns, marked (from left to right) "20", "30" and "40".
The matching board consists of four rows, marked (from top to bottom) "Red", "Green", "Yellow", and "Blue".
"FREE PLAY" (SEGMENT #1)
All three players, starting with the player on the left, will get to play the colorful matching board for free.
Each column contains 4 prizes. Each prize appears only once per column. Those same 4 prizes appear somewhere in each of the other two columns.
The "No Match" card is out of play during this round.
If a player uncovers the same prize in all 3 columns, they keep that prize no matter what, but the prize value is not added to the score money.
Each player will be given 7 picks to match a prize. If they have enough choices remaining, they may try to match another prize.
The faster the first match is made, the more money is scored.
If a second prize is matched before running out of picks, their score money is doubled.
One prize has a $500 bonus attached to it. If the first prize the player matches has that attached, they will have $500 added to their score money.
The same 4 prizes are in play for all 3 contestants, so it is possible for duplicate prizes to be awarded.
QUESTION ROUND (SEGMENT 2 and SEGMENT 3)
Prior to the show, contestants will submit ten codes ranging from 1 - 100, inclusive, via private message to yours truly.
If there is a tie with buzz codes, they will be disregarded and the next set of buzz codes will be used instead.
To determine which player gets first chance at answering the question, the board will show "Low" "Middle" and "High"
These will appear randomly after all 3 buzz codes are revealed on the player podiums.
If "Low" appears first, the player with the lowest buzz code gets first crack at the question.
If "Middle" appears first, the player whose code is in the middle will go first. Same if "High" appears first.
A category is given and four answers are revealed. One answer does not belong.
If the player in control can correctly identify the wrong answer, they will earn 2 picks of the money cards before going to the matching board.
If the first player is wrong, control goes to the next player, and if they can identify the wrong answer, they earn 1 pick.
If the second player is also wrong, the third player will try to eliminate the wrong answer. If so, they earn 1 money card pick.
A correct answer earns that player a trip to the big colorful matching board to try to win more score money plus prizes now too!
SAMPLE QUESTION:
CATEGORY - "Star Trek" Original Series Main Characters
A. Lt. Worf
B. Mr. Scott
C. Mr. Sulu
D. Lt. Uhura
The correct answer in this case would be A. Lt. Worf, since he did not appear in the original 1960s "Star Trek" series.
The other 3 answers match that category.
For the first 2 question rounds, the money cards will be:
$300, $200, $150, $100 and $50.
For the last 2 question rounds, the money cards will be:
$300, $200, $150, $100 and REPLAY.
As before, a maximum of 7 picks are given to the player to find a match. The faster a match is made, the more money is won.
A reminder - The board will have a theme to it each time (e.g. musical instruments, hats, card suits, Hollywood legends, fruit, outer space, animals, etc.).
Each column contains 4 boxes marked "Red", "Green", "Yellow" and "Blue". Each box has a different item. This is true for all three columns.
To achieve a Three on a Match, a player must uncover the same item in all three columns.
Using card suits as an example, there will be one club in the 20 column, one club in the 30 column and one club in the 40 column.
This will also be true for hearts, spades and diamonds too.
As always, the "No Match" card will replace one symbol in one of the three columns.
SAMPLE
BOARD:
Hidden behind 1 box in each of the other two columns is a card marked "Turnover?".
If a "Turnover?" is selected, the player will select "Top" or "Bottom".
If the player selects "No", then their turn continues, and the symbol/picture for that box is then revealed.
If the player selects "Yes", then their turn is over, and control of the board goes to the player in last place.
If the money score is tied, control will go to player next closest with the buzz code.
The next player has the option to keep the box chosen, revealing the symbol behind it, or select another box.
***SPECIAL NOTE*** - If a player loses control of the board, and there are not enough picks remaining for a match to be made, that trip to the board ends.
Two of the boxes will contain "Instant Prize" cards during the first 2 question rounds.
If selected, the player wins a prize immediately and gets to keep it regardless of the outcome of the game.
Any and all prize totals do not affect the score of the main game itself.
SAMPLE BOARD SHOWING "TURNOVER?" AND "INSTANT PRIZE" CARDS...
THE BIG MATCH (SEGMENT 3)
This is the first feature during the third segment of the program.
$5,000 in bonus money is up for grabs during this mini-game. If it is won, it does not affect the score money of the match itself.
The first player to uncover either half of the $5,000 bill will then be given a 1 in 3 chance to uncover the other half. Doing so wins $5,000.
REPLAY (SEGMENT 3)
During the last 2 question rounds, one of the money cards is replaced with a "REPLAY" card. If the player picks that, and makes a match, they get to
play a second matching board right away. If the matching board is turned over to someone else, and that player makes a match,
then THAT player gets to play a second matching board instead.
During this segment, matches can be worth anywhere from $500 to $1,250. If the item matched has the "DOUBLE YOUR DOLLARS" card attached to it, then a player would win double the value.
SAMPLE BOARD:
The contestant needed six picks to match 3 lemons. This adds $625 to the player's score.
If the "DOUBLE YOUR DOLLARS" card is attached to the lemon, then the score doubles to $1,250. The 30 column is always the column that has the bonus attached to it.
In this case it was attached to the lemon, so that match is worth $1,250. If the Double was not attached to the lemon, a symbol saying "SORRY" would appear instead.
WINNER'S BOARD (END OF SEGMENT 3)
The winner of the match will play the Winner's Board for a chance at a grand prize.
One will always be a trip, one will always be $5,000 in cash. The other 2 prizes will vary.
Just as in the main game, only 3 boxes per column may be exposed, but play continues until a prize is matched 3 times.
BONU$ BUCK$ (SEGMENT 4)
The rules remain the same for this round. 7 picks maximum to uncover 3 dollar signs or 3 pots of gold.
The sooner one of those is matched the more money is won.
Also "Double Your Dollars" cards appears in each column. If that is what is matched first, then the bonus payout is doubled.
The top of the board will feature a payout chart.
Each column will contain a dollar sign, a pot of gold, a "DOUBLE YOUR DOLLARS" card, and a lit match named "Striker".
If you select "Striker", that is 1 strike against you. You are required to select another box right away, and from another column if that happens.
The host will offer a bailout option if and when an appropriate time for doing so arises.
If all 3 Strikers are matched first, the player wins $0 for the bonus game.
If a player makes a match in their first 3 picks, (but not 3 Strikers) they win a new car, $50,000 and retire.
If a player makes a match in their first 3 picks, and it's the "DOUBLE YOUR DOLLARS" cards, they win the car and $100,000 and retire.
INSTANT MATCH
If a player makes an instant match during the main game, the "Free Play" round or at the "Winner's Board", they will win the Instant Match Jackpot.
The Instant Match jackpot starts at $1,000 and grows by $1,000 per show. Also one prize is added to that jackpot as well per show until won.
The Instant Match jackpot is awarded only to the contestant who makes the first instant match of the day.
Furthermore, an instant match also automatically qualifies ANY player who does so to play for $50,000 and the car at the Bonus Bucks endgame.
Players remain until:
They lose 2 games
They win the car
They win 5 games
