Greetings, all. The fourth episode of Chain is about to start. First, some notes. \ Michael Clifford returns with two wins and $57,000. Clément Couvreur also returns with $3000 due to a clerical error. So, no qualifying round for a potential challenger will be conducted. \ We have a few rule changes -- which have now been posted to www.dougmorris.net/chain (see, I was productive during my time off ). Least you need to know: Champions must retire after five straight wins, an instant $40,000 bonus will be awarded to the player who completes such a winning streak (both changes will be grandfathered into Michael's current reign) and, if no one reaches the goal of $5000 after three rounds, a full chain will be played in Round 4 (and 5, 6, etc.) until someone reaches $5000. As soon as Clément and Michael check in to this thread, it's lights, camera, action and go time.

(a train is heard crashing into the studio)
Aw crap! Now I know why "Supertrain" was a bust.
Anyway, I'm here. I'll pay for the damages...maybe.

(theme plays; audience applause)The game is -- The $40,000 Chain Reaction -- where one word leads to another -- and the right word could lead to a big payoff.Hellooooo, everybody, I'm Doug Morris. We welcome you back to Chain Reaction -- and we welcome back both players from our last show, Michael Clifford and Clément Couvreur. (audience cheers)Michael so far has won two games and $57,000. We're inviting Clément back due to a clerical error we made on the last show. Gentlemen, you both know how to play it -- so let's play Chain Reaction. (board opens as part of the theme plays)I just printed more than $45,000 in unmarked bills this morning -- (scattered laughter from the crowd) -- and I'm ready to give it all away. (ding)This first round chain starts with MR. and it ends with BOOK. Five links are in between. Every link in this chain is worth $250. In addition, if you're the player who completes the chain, you'll score another $250. The first player to reach $5000 wins the game -- and the chance to convert pennies into the potential top payoff of $40,000. (audience cheers)Clément, you'll start us off by giving the first letter below MR. or above BOOK for Michael to guess -- or taking that letter for yourself to guess.

All right. No guess from the challenger. Over to Michael for the first time in the game.

There's a Lance Armstrong joke in there -- but we won't go there and simply say BICYCLE is wrong. Michael, back to you.
