A new era of $ale begins, as I take over for Greg Palmer as the new permanent emcee. When we last left off, Clara Solsak became our new champion, picking up $31,527 in cash and prizes, including a trip to Cairo, Egypt. Mark Liotta has expressed interest in competing in this episode, so I'll need Clara and Mark to sign in, and we'll need one more challenger.

And that's our panel! Get set, folks. It's game time! -------------------------- (Fade in to a shot of Hunter in his dressing room, going over the script for the show) Burton Richardson: Well kiddo, this is it, your first day on the job. How are the nerves?Me: They're alright, but I just hope I can keep the franchise afloat. Greg's done this show for many years, so I have some big shoes to fill. Burton: Don't worry about it, you'll be fine. You've had plenty of time to practice and rehearse. (Director Mario Silvestri walks in) Mario: We've got 60 seconds to showtime, Hunter.Me: Be right out. Let's go, Burton. (we walk out of the dressing room, and make our way to the set) Burton: Just remember, be yourself, don't be afraid to have a little fun with the players. You've got this. I'll be in the booth if you need anything.Me: Thanks, Burton. (I wait just behind the doors as we fade to a shot of our champion) (drumroll)Burton: So far, Clara Solsak has won cash and prizes totalling... $31,527!(opening theme)This week, one of our contestants could win a climbing wall treadmill, a plectocycle, a racing simulator, or a trip to Egypt! And continue a journey towards a fortune in cash and prizes, including a pair of BMW M5s......and a cash jackpot of $500,000!All on America's biggest bargain sensation...(echo) And now, here's your new host... HUNTER DILLON!(the doors open, and I run to my lectern)Boy, that felt exhilarating. Thank you, Burton Richardson! (audience gives a standing ovation) Oh, no! Please, don't do that. My goodness. Please, have a seat, have a seat. You guys are nice people, and I thank you for that welcome, but this is only a half-hour show. (laughter)Welcome to $ale of the Century. Now, don't adjust your sets, you are not seeing things. My name is Hunter Dillon, and I was selected by the good folks at Grundy and NBC to take over as the new permanent emcee of this program, so I thank everyone involved with the show for giving me the opportunity. (applause)Now, not only am I new around here, but we've made a few changes to the show that I know you're going to enjoy, but before we get to all of that, we've got to say hello to our returning champion, Clara Solsak. Welcome back, Clara! (applause)Last night, you got yourself a trip to Cairo, Egypt, and over $31,000 in loot so far. What are your thoughts going into tonight's match?

Well thank you, Clara. Getting positive reviews, and I haven't even started the game yet! (laughter)Now, while a few things have changed, there's at least one thing that'll remain the same, and that's the fact that every night, I get to turn to my left and say, ladies and gentlemen, here's Stacey Wren! (cheers and applause)Stacey: G'day, Hunter. Welcome to the $ale family!Me: Thanks, Stacey. It really is a great show to be a part of, and I'm thrilled to be here. Stacey: And we're excited to have you here. It's going to be a lot of fun working with you.Me: I have the same feeling about you too. Alright, Stacey, who are Clara's challengers tonight? Stacey: Our first contestant loves all things retro. From Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, here's Bill McDee!(applause)And our second contestant is a self-proclaimed Mario-holic. From Toronto, Ontario, Canada, meet Mark Liotta!(applause)Me: Welcome to you both. Now Mark, Stacey said you are a self-proclaimed Mario-holic. Care to explain that for us?

Certainly. I think what Stacey meant when she introduced me is that I like playing a lot of video games involving Mario. Examples being classic Mario Party, Mario Kart and his newest adventure for the Switch, Super Mario Odyssey.

Stacey: Ooh, I've played that game before, and it's a blast. Hunter, have you tried Super Mario Maker 2 yet?
Me: No, I haven't. I don't even own a Switch.
Stacey: That's alright, after the show, I'll let you try it on mine.
Me: Well how sweet of you. Thanks, Stacey! So Super Mario Bros. is your game of choice. Who's your favorite character from the franchise?

That would have to be Mario himself. (On a side note, it feels awkward to be standing at this spot tonight when I was just in the host position last night)

Indeed, I have a modest collection of DVDs featuring old sitcoms from the 1950s through 1980s. I also enjoy watching classic vintage game show programming on youtube and on Buzzr as well including old $ale of the Century episodes. And I think it's most appropriate that you are now hosting this show as it features many a bargain, Hunter

All great shows, without a doubt. Maybe if you win tonight, you'll win enough money to add some more shows to that collection. Good luck to you tonight. Well players, we're ready to start the game. Stacey, you have the honors. Stacey: Thanks, Hunter, and good luck to everybody. $20 to start.(the board initializes)Me: And I'll see you a bit later for some Instant Bargains. (Stacey exits) Now, before we get into the match, I would like to announce one of the changes we have made to our show. Starting today, you will no longer be required to win with a score of $100 or more in order to try for the car at the Winner's Board, as it will be available every day, regardless of score. (applause)Alright, with that out of the way, let's get started. Round 1 as a new era of $ale begins. 1. What is the last name of the actor whose nickname is “Sly”? 2. What are Jackknife, Cannonball and Swan types of? 3. What country has a red maple leaf symbol on its’ flag? 4. Finish this well-known phrase: “Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of...” what? 5. Where on your body would you scratch if your proboscis itch?(PM me your buzzcodes and answers. 48 hour deadlines as always.)

1. What is the last name of the actor whose nickname is “Sly”? (buzzcode: 46) *Clara buzzes in (54)*Clara? Clara: Stallone Sylvester.Uh... hang on just a minute, gonna need to consult the judges. (I pick up the $ale hotline) Yes... Mm-hmm... Okay, thanks, Tony. (I hang up) Clara, I'm going to have to rule you incorrect. The answer I have is Sylvester Stallone, but you said Stallone Sylvester, and the judges needed the name proper. (buzz)I'm sorry, but sometimes things happen that way. You lose $5 for the incorrect answer, you're down to $15. 2. What are Jackknife, Cannonball and Swan types of? (buzzcode: 26) *Mark buzzes in (43)*Mark? Mark: Dives. That's exactly what they are. $5 for the correct answer, and Mark's on the board with $25. (ding)3. What country has a red maple leaf symbol on its’ flag? (ding)(applause)(bells jingling)It's now time for an Instant Bargain. The player in the lead has the chance to buy bargain merchandise, and a $ale Surprise with a bonus could pop up at any time. Bill, you have $30 to spend and a $5 lead. Can I interest you in this? (We find Joann and Mike in a '50s malt shop, dancing to an instrumental version of "Rock Around the Clock")Stacey: Sweet memories of malt shops and sock hops are back, courtesy of the Crosley Full Size Bluetooth Jukebox. Based on a classic jukebox design, this ultimate entertainment companion is a treat for the eyes and ears. Complete with color shifting LED lighting, this jukebox is sure to put the cherry on top of anyone’s sundae. While providing a good dose of nostalgia on the exterior, the interior is full of all the modern technologies we’ve come to love. This rockin’ good time comes complete with an AM/FM radio, CD player that reads MP3 and WAV files, and full Bluetooth support for both mobile and stand-alone devices.
