A game originally created by BigJon derived from "The Price is Right" where we start with five contestants competing against each other, bidding on showcases of prizes for game points. In each Showcase during each game, the one who bids closest to the actual retail price of the Showcase, without going over, earns a point. Multiple points can be earned with one Showcase if the winning difference is a few hundred dollars or less, making it possible to win the game with just one excellent bid. Similarly, a point is taken away if the contestant overbids by just a little bit.
We begin with three 2-point Qualifying games to determine our three semi-finalists with the winner of each game winning 10% of the value of their winning Showcase. The Semi-Final game will be a 3-point game, with the first two contestants scoring 3 points winning 25% of the value of their winning Showcase and advancing to the Final. The Final will be a 5-point game, with the first contestant scoring 5 points winning 50% of the value of their winning Showcase and advancing to the Bonus Showcase. The overall winner plays the Bonus Showcase for as much as $100,000. The contestant wins the full value of their Bonus Showcase if they can bid within $2,500 of its actual retail price, as long as they don't go over. If the contestant overbids by any amount or underbids by more than $2,500, they win nothing in the Bonus Showcase. If, however, the difference is within $500 without going over, the contestant wins $100,000.
All bids are submitted via PM. Contestants have 24 hours after the time the Showcase is revealed to PM their bid to me, otherwise they receive an automatic overbid.
I need 5 participants for the pilot...who would like to play?

(fade in - wide overhead shot of mostly dark stage with podiums slightly visible) Rich Fields: "Today, someone could walk out of the Bob Barker Studio with more than $100,000 in cash and the champion's crown, competing in a prize-bidding competition that we call..." (lights transition to normal as audience begins to applaud)
"...and now, here's the host of our program, Glen Brown!" (audience continues applauding as I approach the podiums from stage left) Thank you, Mr. Fields! Thank you for that applause, ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Showcase Beatdown -- the show that will pit our contestants against each other to determine which of them is the best bidder -- that person could wind up with six digits worth of cash in his pocket! (audience applauds)
Our game is based on the Showcase round from that iconic game show "The Price is Right". In our game, we start with five contestants, but we'll wind up the show with one champion who will bid on one last Bonus Showcase that could pay off one hundred thousand dollars for an excellent bid! (audience applauds)
Let's start meeting the competitors on our show today, shall we? Rich, who is our first contestant? Rich Fields: "First up, please welcome Nels Snesrud!" (audience applauds as Nels enters from stage right)
Nels, it's a pleasure to have you with us today for Showcase Beatdown!
Please tell us a few things about yourself and what you'd do with a hundred grand if you wind up as our champ today!

Well, a hundred thousand would buy you a pretty nice custom bowling ball I should think! Welcome, Nels!
Let's meet one of Nels' opponents now. Who else is playing today, Rich?
Rich Fields: "Next, please welcome Justin Rhea!" (audience applauds as Justin enters from stage right)
Welcome aboard, Justin! Tell us a bit about yourself if you would, please.

Ah, being a board game collector is a great idea for a hobby! I have fond memories of playing "Perfection" as a child and sometimes scaring the wits out of my cat! (audience chuckles)
Welcome to the show, Justin! Who else is joining us, Rich?
Rich Fields: "Next, please welcome Steve Anderson!" (audience applauds as Steve enters from stage right)
Welcome Steve, what would you care to share about yourself and what would you do with $100,000?

I have been for over 10 years working in foodservice, the last 5 for the same major convenience store chain. I am originally from Plymouth Massachusetts but have moved to Cape Cod in recent months. In my spare time I help organize events for the brony community in and around the Boston area. What I would do with the $100K, after paying the appropriate authorities their cut (LOL) probably invest more time into my party decor business that I've been working off and on for a few years, would like to get the business off the ground

Well, that's terrific -- hopefully you can win enough cash on our show today to help your decor business. Also, I used to live up in Chelmsford in what seems like a whole other lifetime ago now and would spend part of my summer vacation down in Wellfleet on the Cape -- love it there!
Welcome to the show, Steve!
We have two more vacant podiums Rich, who else will be joining us today?
Rich Fields: "Next, please welcome Kourtney Wilson!" (audience applauds as Kourtney enters from stage right)
Kourtney, it's a pleasure to have you here as well -- what would you care to share with us about yourself?

Another collector on the show -- having a collection of pens would be really cool -- thinking about a specific pen from my past can trigger nice memories sometimes. My favorite pen as a kid was a funky, multi-inked Bic pen that had like 6 different colors in one pen if I remember correctly. Some interesting collecting ideas you have there Kourtney -- welcome to the show!
We have one more empty podium to fill, Mr. Fields -- who belongs behind that one?
Rich Fields: "For our final contestant today, please welcome Vincent Easter!" (audience applauds as Vincent enters from stage right)
Welcome to Showcase Beatdown, Vincent!
We have Justin the board game collector and Kourtney the pen and cigar box collector -- do you partake in collections of some sort as well, Vincent? Please tell us a bit about yourself before we proceed.

A computer programmer, eh? Well, that takes me back as well -- I was one of those back in the day -- not quite as far back as the punch card, but pretty close to it! (audience chuckles)
Welcome to the show Vincent and here's hoping you have a terrific 22nd in July!
Gentlemen, best of luck to you all -- here's how our show plays out.
Our computer will piece together a variable number of items to form Showcases of prizes. In some cases, it could be a Showcase of only a couple of items worth perhaps even less than one hundred dollars or it could be a Showcase with 6 or more items worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. For the most part, you will be presented only with the name of the item -- you will get no description or picture of the item. For some items however, such as cars, boats, motorhomes, etc. we will provide you a picture of the item.
Your task is to be the contestant that bids closest to the actual retail price of the Showcase, without going over. The person accomplishing that earns a point in the game, although if the winning bid is within only a few hundred dollars, bonus points will be awarded on top of the single point. This means that throughout our show, it will be possible to win the current game with just one single excellent bid on a Showcase.
Each game also awards money to the winner, equal to a percentage of the value of the Showcase that won the game for that contestant.
We are about to begin the first of our three Qualifying games to determine which three of you will be moving on to the Semi-Final. Each Qualifying game is won by the first contestant to score 2 points and that contestant is rewarded with cash in the amount of 10% of the value of the Showcase that won the game for them, or $1,000, whichever is greater. That's how we play Showcase Beatdown!
(theme begins to play and audience begins to clap)
We'll take a look at the first Showcase of the show right after we show you this!

Welcome back to Showcase Beatdown!
We're ready to get our first Qualifying game started to see which of our five contestants will become our first Semi-Finalist. Before we show it to you gentlemen, remember to always bid in U.S. Dollars only because we round the retail price of each item to the nearest dollar. Also, be sure to PM me your bid within 24 hours of this post, otherwise you will receive an automatic $999,999 overbid for this Showcase.
Computer, generate our first Showcase for us, please.
(ding)
Our first Showcase contains 5 items, including an XBOX 1 wireless controller, an Alto Saxophone, 5 ounces of Gold, a microwave convention oven and this beautiful classic car...
...a restoration of a 1949 Hudson Commodore 8 Brougham Convertible!
For the gold price, we are using the price per ounce at the close of the markets this past Friday, May 3, 2019.
There's our first Showcase. Please PM your bids on it fellers and good luck!

Alright, we have our 5 bids for that first Showcase and here are the results...
Vincent was technically the closest with his bid, but he perhaps over-estimated the price of the car by a little bit.
Kourtney, you said in your message that you thought this was a hard one out of the gate, but as it turns out, it was a piece of cake for you! I'm curious, how much did you figure was the price of that Hudson?

I wasn’t too sure going to the bid honestly. Gave a estimate of about 55k for the Hudson. I thought I was going to be too low.

Well, we may be seeing other classic cars on the show today, but we will not be seeing any repeated classic cars, so I can tell you the Hudson by itself was almost $70,000.
So, well done Kourtney -- you take the first point of the game and are one more winning bid away from becoming a Semi-Finalist.
Here are the items in the next Showcase:
We have a toaster oven, a floor screen, a desk, a Queen-sized brass bed including mattress and box spring and a couple of trips, each of which includes round-trip airfare for two from Los Angeles. The Ireland tour begins with a flight from Los Angeles to Dublin.
That's our second Showcase, gents. Make your bids on it now, please.

It has been more than 24 hours and I did not receive a bid from you Nels, so I'm sorry but you receive an automatic overbid for this Showcase.
The other 4 bids are in and here are the results this time...
How about that! Kourtney isn't messing around on this show, folks! Two consecutive winning bids makes you our first Semi-Finalist! Not only that, you were off by less than a thousand dollars this time!
Congratulations Kourtney! Please tell us your thoughts on how you came up with that bid and how it feels to be moving on to the Semi-Final!

Okay, I guess Kourtney has nothing to say, so we'll ask you to stand by in our Green Room where you can count your...
...two thousand nine dollars that you picked up in that win.
(audience begins applauding as theme begins to play)
Kourtney is the first Semi-Finalist, who will be the second? We'll find out about that after we find out about this...

Welcome back to Showcase Beatdown!
I'm here with Nels, Justin, Steve and Vincent and one of them is about to join Kourtney in the Semi-Finals as we start our second Qualifying game! The rules are the same as in the first game, gents -- whichever one of you is the first to score 2 points wins the game, 10% of the value of the winning Showcase and a Semi-Finalist spot!
Let's have a look at the first Showcase in this game...
(ding)
In this Showcase, we have a travel alarm, a pair of remote control helicopters, a pool table, a motorcycle, a 9' by 13' rug and this...
...new car! It's the 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric Vehicle!
PM your bids within 24 hours, please. Good luck!

Alright, the bids are in and let's see who takes the first lead in the second game...
Nels is the only one who didn't overbid, so he grabs the point.
Nels, do you think you can go 2-for-2 like Kourtney did? How much did you figure that Kona was?
