Time to start a new episode of Lucky Numbers. Some notes...
\ Kevin Kolsen returns with three match wins and $319,640 in cash and merchandise. If he can win this and the next match, he retires undefeated and plays the million dollar version of the main event.
\ Effective this post, this and the other netgames I host solo are bringing back "Greed"-style qualifying questions.
...so with that, here comes the question. The closest to the right answer, high or low and hasn't opposed Kevin in a previous Lucky Numbers episode, gets to be the challenger.
On March 5th, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. Central, we watched a rerun of "Silent Library" on MTV2. Out of a possible $5500, how much money did the team of six players win in this episode? Please respond in increments of $100. (To clarify, there was an end-of-show disclaimer noting that footage from some challenges did not air due to time constraints. Unaired challenges that resulted in payoffs are, obviously, not calculated in the right answer to this qualifying question.)
Please PM dougmorrisontheair (that's me) your answer in 24 hours from now.

Okay, let's see how much the team won. (ding) Good score by them -- 4400. Looks like a lot of you had little faith in them. Either that or SL didn't age well. Closest guess was 1200 submitted by Nels. Unfortunately, Nels played during Kevin's time with us. So -- sorry Nels -- we've got to let someone else have a try. That someone else is -- jman8606, James Greek, with 900. James and Kevin, please PM me 20 buzz codes from 1-100. Match starts ASAP.

WXYZ - DETROIT Staff announcer: Celebrating seventy years of seven. (opening theme plays)Bill Kennedy: It's time to play -- Lucky Numbers. Ladies and gentlemen -- Doug Morris. (audience cheers) Thank you, Bill Kennedy. Hellooooo, everybody -- and welcome to Lucky Numbers. At this table, a lucky toss of the dice could mean huge numbers for a player. We have lots of cash, fantastic prizes, screams of joy -- and probably some moans and groans as well. We've got a champ who's been on quite a rampage -- thought I was gonna say another R word, huh? (scattered laughter from crowd) We also have a challenger who wants to get in on the big money and prizes. A warm welcome to Kevin Kolsen and James Greek. (audience cheers)Kevin has cleaned house in the last two main events. That's why this man has banked $319,640. (audience cheers) Have you been this lucky at dice games?

The only dice game I've ever been lucky at before this is Monopoly if that counts!

Eh, we'll call it a dice game in part. Well, a win today moves you a big step closer at the all-cash main event.
James is here to stop you. James, please tell us about yourself.

Sounds like you have a wide variety of interests. Knowledge of those interests could help you. Players, good luck to you both. Please have a look at our game board. There they are -- the lucky numbers that will be in play for every game in our match -- 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. Attached to five of those numbers are cash awards. Anytime your dice roll totals one of those lucky numbers, you seize control of that cash award. However, the remaining number is the luckiest number of all. It's our winning point. And the winning point in the first game we're about to play is... (drum beats; cha-ching)...the lowest of them all -- a 4. Roll a 4 in any combination and you'll win the cash you've seized *plus* the money in the pot. At the start of every game, we seed the pot with $1500. It could go up by as much as $500 on a particular roll. More on that later. Now there's a reason 7 is not among *this* show's lucky numbers. In any game, any roll of 7 means this. (danger zone cue; lights briefly flicker in certain parts of studio)That means we enter the danger zone -- and the complexion of the game will change from there. More about that when we cross that bridge -- would that the bridge is not crossed. Now -- to get control of the dice, you must correctly answer a toss-up question. If you anticipate and you're wrong, the roll automatically goes to your opponent. So -- hands on the buzzers, please -- because here comes your first question of the first game. Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan or Barack Obama. Which U.S. President was born in Illinois? 13 koopakid17 04 jman8606 86 random.org (Kevin buzzes in) Kevin?

Oh, no. Honest Abe was born in Kentucky. President Obama was born in Hawaii. President Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois. So that means James gets to roll the dice. Roll a 4, win $1500. That simple. (James rolls)Other end of the spectrum -- a 10. That's good for... (ding)...$500. James' captured numbers will be indicated by blue cash awards. When Kevin controls numbers, they'll be indicated by red awards. On to our next question. It's a little long so play carefully. You've just started a game of Words With Friends -- and you play the three-letter word "zax". Will "zax" be worth at least 20 points; yes or no? 41 koopakid17 46 jman8606 29 random.org (Kevin buzzes in) Kevin?

The Z, A and X are worth 10, 1 and 8 points, respectively, for a total of 19. There'd be no way you could land on a bonus space playing just those three letters to start. "No" is right. (audience cheers)Dice are yours for the first time today. Let's see if you can get a 4. (James rolls)A 6 instead. That's good for... (ding)...$300. Controlled cash plus the contents of the pot go into a player's bank upon victory. Next question involves a little bit of our own history. Debra Sue Maffett was part of the Lucky Numbers team in the 1980s. Before that, she was crowned Miss America. When she won that title, she represented what state; California, Tennessee or Texas? 24 koopakid17 18 jman8606 10 random.org (James buzzes in) James?

She's a Texas native -- but was Miss California before becoming Miss America. You're right. (audience cheers)Roll those bones and let's see if you get a 4. (James rolls)That's a winner! (ASB win cue plays; audience applause) $1500 *plus* another 500 from the 10. koopakid17 jman8606 You're $2000 to the good already. Kevin's yet to score. We'll play as many games as time will allow. Player who's banked more cash when time's called goes to the main event where more than $70,000 in cash and prizes are waiting to be won. We're going to start another game. We've cleared the board. Now let's see what our next winning point is in a new game. (drum beats; cha-ching)Other end of the spectrum this time -- the 10. Roll a 10 in any combination and you'll bank at least $1500. Next question coming. It's a long one -- so play carefully. "Boston Legal", "T.J. Hooker", or "(bleep) My Dad Says". Oh, no -- "T.J. Hooker" is the right answer. Leonard played the part of a retiring policeman, as I recall. Leonard also directed another episode -- again if my memory's right. James, this one's for your. You get to roll. (James rolls)(scattered woahs) Yeah, got close -- niner -- good for... (ding)...$375. On we go to another question. One of the executives at Atlantic when the company celebrated its 40th anniversary is named -- Doug Morris. (scattered laughter and groans) Yes, as noted on another show I occasionally host on this network, I have a name twin. *That* Doug Morris attended Atlantic's 40th anniversary celebration. Sorry, James, but that's true. That's a break for Kevin. Roll 'em. (Kevin rolls) (chimes; audience cheers) There's a 3 -- and we're about to up the ante. Combinations of 2, 3, 11 and 12 are tough to roll on dice. So we call those wild rolls. Any wild roll in the match means we add $500 to the pot. (drum beats; cha-ching)And just like that, we're up to $2000. Wild roll also means an extra roll of the dice. So, Kevin, my Junior G-Man Magic Carpet's returned the dice to you. Please roll again. (Kevin rolls)And there's an 8. You get control of... (ding)...$300. We'll find out if Kevin can roughly even up the score -- or if James can roughly double the cash in his bank. More of Lucky Numbers -- after this. (commercial cue plays; audience applauds)

(HR87 theme plays) A source for many of the questions we use on Lucky Numbers is the 22-volume World Book Encyclopedia -- which includes the research guide and the index volume. We always make sure our players never leave the dice table empty handed. Bill Kennedy, please tell us about one of the welcoming gifts we have for both of today's players. Bill: A $1000 Service Merchandise gift card. Famous, brand-name items. Select from our 500-page catalog or redeem at one of our showrooms. (ASB cue plays; audience applauds) Welcome back to Lucky Numbers. During the break, Marty on Camera 3 made an interesting observation. Here on the scoreboard, we're saluting the star of "Kevin Can Wait" and "The King of Queens". (audience laughs and applauds) Marty, from now on, I'll do the jokes, okay? (scattered laughter from crowd) James is leading in the match $2000 to nothing. In this current game, we've got $2000 in the pot. So, depending on how things goes, James will at least double up his score -- or Kevin will tie or take the lead. Let's see what happens as we resume action with this question. We've got another question that's a little long -- so play carefully. True or false: Helen Slater and Christian Slater co-starred as siblings in a movie -- and are siblings in real life. 71 koopakid17 63 jman8606 01 random.org(scattered laughter) (James buzzes in) James?

They were cast as brother and sister in "The Legend of Billie Jean". That part's true. But they are not related in real life. False is right. (audience cheers)Chance to better than double your score comes now with this roll of the dice, James. (James rolls) (danger zone cue; lights briefly flicker in certain parts of studio)Thaaaaaat's not gonna give you the lead. For the first time in the match, gents, we're in the danger zone. Next roll of 7 means your opponent automatically wins the game, money in the pot and any other credited cash. So when you win control of the dice, you may roll 'em -- or pass the dice in the hope the opposition will lose. Crucial question coming. Mickey Dolenz, Mike Nesmith or Peter Tork. Sheesh, double parked? (scattered laughter from crowd) Either that or he actually remembers "Television Parts" -- which indeed was hosted by Mike Nesmith. (audience cheers)We'll hold you to your call of "pass". So, Kevin, roll 'em. (Kevin rolls) (audience groans) (buzz)A 7! You lose the game. James, more money for you. (ASB win cue plays; audience applause) $2000 from the pot; another $375 from the 9. That will more than double your score. $4375. (more cheers) Kevin, still plenty of time for a comeback. We have cleared the board. Let's see what our next winning point is, please. (drum beats; cha-ching)The ocho! (scattered laughter from crowd) Already we can't wait for the next ESPN8 marathon. Roll an 8, bank at least $1500. New game means we're out of danger -- so the winner of this next question gets to roll those dice automatically. Jillian Michaels, Suzanne Somers or Raquel Welch.
