Matt is at 8, and can't bust, so I'll honor his decision. Here's the next question.
[ORSON WELLES] [ALFRED HITCHCOCK] [JOHN HUSTON] [ELIA KAZAN] [WALTER HILL]
Who directed "Rope," "Topaz," "Family Plot," and "Dial M for Murder"?

That's right! Interesting fact about "Rope"...it was all filmed in one shot, with no cutaways or close-ups. Let's see the hidden card for Matt.
[COLLEGE FOOTBALL] [INT'L CUISINE] [HUMAN BODY] [>>3<<] [BIRDS] [19TH CENTURY] [>>X<<] [AMERICAN LIT] [>>X<<] [LAST CHANCE]
A THREE! (Audience applauds) What would you like to do with that?

I'm going to have to go for the top card.

(Audience oohs)
Turning down a guaranteed 11...let's see what I can pull for you.
[6S]
A SIX takes you to 14. Evan has nothing yet. Do you want to play on (if so, which category?) or freeze?

Matt's going on! If he busts, Evan is the champ. Let's see what happens.
[AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY] [THE GRAPES OF WRATH] [THE WASTELAND] [BABBITT] [THE GREAT GATSBY]
Which of these classic American novels was NOT published in the 1920s?

Correct! That was written in the 1930s. Let's see Evan's hidden card. He's gonna get on the board with...
[COLLEGE FOOTBALL] [INT'L CUISINE] [HUMAN BODY] [>>X<<] [BIRDS] [19TH CENTURY] [>>X<<] [>>2<<] [>>X<<] [LAST CHANCE]
Would you like that DEUCE, or the Top Card? Either way, choose the next category.

Let's see what Evan can get with this... (I pull the Top Card)
[3C]
Not much better, I'm afraid. Matt with 14, Evan with 3, as we carry on with Evan's request for THE HUMAN BODY. Hands on buzzers.
[NERVOUS] [CIRCULATORY] [DIGESTIVE] [RESPIRATORY] [SKELETAL]
In which system of the human body will you find the duodenum?

The score is Evan at 9, Matt at 14. Next question is on the 19TH CENTURY. Hands on buzzers.

Here's the Top Card...(I turn it)
It is higher...
[7S]
A SEVEN (audience murmurs). That's going to take you to 16. Play on, or freeze? Remember, if you freeze, you'll have a chance to unfreeze and finish out the round, should you need it. What's your pleasure?
(Audience makes suggestions)

(Audience applauds)
I think that's the right idea. We've seen a lot of low cards, so you may be facing danger. On the other hand, that puts Matt into a must-answer situation. Since Matt is the only active player, he must answer every question correctly. One mistake, and Evan is the champ.
OK, Matt. Here's the lowdown. You have 14, and Evan has frozen at 16. If you surpass Evan and decide to freeze, Evan gets to unfreeze and play last. Of course, if you get 21, then you're the new champ. Your category choices are COLLEGE FOOTBALL, INTERNATIONAL CUISINE, and BIRDS. What would you like?
