(Applause from Jonathan's fans) Me: The audience tends to agree with that decision. We shall see if that 20 holds. Bill, here is the situation. You MUST get 21 in order to win the game. If you bust, miss a deadline, or run out of categories, then Jonathan will become the new champion. Good luck to the both of you. Bill, choose the next category, please. The deadline is 11:59:59 PM EST Monday.

Me: This chess piece can only move in straight lines and looks like a tower. Name it. Bill: Rook (or Castle). Me: Either one is acceptable. (audience applause) Let's see what you will start with... 'Tis an eight. Would you like to keep it or take the top card? (Then, select the next category.)

I'll keep that 8 and go with Authors next.

Me: The eight comes off the board, and we now come to authors. Bill, can you tell me who wrote "The Grapes of Wrath" and "East of Eden"? Bill: John Steinbeck. (audience applause) Me: Indeed he did! Let's see what John Steinbeck got you... (audience reacts) It's a deuce! That can bring you up to 10, or you can take the top card. What do you wish to do? (Audience yells ideas)

Me: Bill, if you get an ace with the next correct answer, then you will have won the game. If it's anything but an ace, the game continues. The question is: how many quarts are in two gallons? Bill: Eight quarts in 2 gallons. Me: Yes, that is accurate! (audience starts chanting ACE! ACE! ACE! ACE!) The audience is chanting it, but do you have it? (Audience expresses disapproval) It's a nine! If you keep it, then you must get a deuce or two aces. You could also take the top card in exchange for that nine. What's your pleasure? (Audience yells out suggestions)

Me: Leslie, Bill is hoping you have an ace for him. (Audience gets pumped up) Jonathan hopes it's anything but an ace. What's the top card? (Audience groans) Me: I have bad news and good news. Bad news: Bill, it wasn't an ace. Good news: Jonathan, it wasn't an ace. (scattered chuckles) That takes your hand total to 15. You MUST find a 6, or a combination of cards that give you 6. Which category do you think has a 6?

Me: In the category of geography: over 80% of the world's bananas are grown in what continent? Bill: South America Me: Yes! (audience applause) In order for you to win, that card HAS to be a 6. If it's higher than a 6, then you will be forced to take the top card. What card is there? (audience gets pumped up) (Dings, theme plays, audience cheers and applause) Me: Congratulations, Bill! You have 21! (Leslie and I walk to the contestants' podiums) You pick up $2100 more, for a total of $3100. We will play the bonus round in a little bit. Jonathan, we will have to say good-bye to you. The competition this round was fierce, and you played very well. You'll leave us with $2100 in cold hard cash. We hope you enjoyed your stay. Leslie, tell us what all of our contestants will take home today. Leslie: All of our contestants will receive the home version of Top Card, also available in the steel case Deluxe Edition from Smilton Gradley. Me: I suppose the wooden case was discontinued. In any event, we'll return to the bonus round after these messages. (Audience applause) Announcer: Closed captioning and promotional consideration furnished by the following:

Thanks Jon! My jaw just about hit the floor in astonishment when that 6 turned up. I had a feeling about it too. Just once I want to get that feeling with PowerBall!!! LOL
Terrific match, and thanks for the well wishes!

(DURING THE BREAK...)I just wanted to show you all the rest of the cards on the board. They were picked at random at random.org before the round. The next card off Leslie's deck was the 8 of clubs. So, if Bill had picked another category, he would have eventually busted. This board was NOT an easy board, as there were NO aces on the board whatsoever.

(Theme plays for a few seconds as applause dies down) Me: Welcome back! I'm here with our new champion, Bill. If you are just tuning in, you missed one heck of a championship round! Jonathan froze on 20, and he threw down the gauntlet. However, Bill emerged victorious. Bill, you're here in the bonus round. Here are the rules for the bonus game: The way to win a car is to get a 21 in four cards or fewer. You'll be picking off additional prizes off this board. Behind each prize is a card. As always, you can choose that card, or the top card. Be careful though, one of the cards on the board is a Joker. Pick the joker, or go over 21, you win nothing in the bonus round. You can freeze at any time and keep the prizes accumulated if you fear that you'll pick the joker or bust. At this time, Leslie is holding five envelopes; each one is a different automobile. You could win: a VW Jetta (audience wooos) a Honda Fit (audience ahhhs) a Toyota Camry Hybrid (audience marvels---NBC "yeeee-hawww!") a Mercedes Benz GLA250 (audience cheers) or a Ford Mustang Convertible (audience shouts and whistles) Bill, which envelope will you take? Bill: I will select #3. Me: Go ahead and take that from Leslie, and give that to me, please. (Leslie puts down the other envelopes and walks toward the cars.) Bill, the car you are playing for is.... the VW Jetta! (Audience applause) Dan, tell us about the car. (Car theme) Dan: You could win this 2015 Volkswagen Jetta! This is equipped with a 1.8L engine, 6 speed automatic transmission, and the technology package. Furnished by Moses Volkswagen worth $20,710. Good luck, Bill! (applause) Me: Let's get that car! Here are the prizes, once again. Go ahead and pick your first prize. Bill: My first pick is the cash pot. Me: Dan, (chuckling a little) Tell us more about this prize. Dan: Sure, will Joe. (Vamp theme) It's a fish bowl stuffed with cold hard cash worth $1170! (applause) Me: Okay, the LAST thing we need to see is that Joker. What's behind the cash pot? It's a seven. Want to keep this, or take the Top Card? (audience shouts ideas)

Me: Well, Leslie, Bill is looking for a ten or ace. What do you have? Leslie: (Slowly holds it up) It's a six. Well, it's something, and you have pocketed $1170 of cool cash. What other prize strikes your fancy? Bill: The pool table! Me: Dan, what about this pool table? Dan: (vamped theme) Bring the Outdoors Indoors. Inspired by the beautiful Northwest, the Timberline’s majestic arched frame is constructed of solid 1.5 inch Northern Pine. Hand turned round legs complete the unique rustic look of this family game room pool table from Golden West Billiard Mfg. It's a prize worth $3585. (applause) Me: It looks like a gorgeous pool table, but what card is behind that pool table? (Audience groans) It's an ace. It will give you a 7/17, or you can take the top card. (Audience gives advice)

I will keep that ace, and as I fear the joker, I'd like to stop and take the cash & pool table if that's an option.

(Applause from Audience) Me: You may stop here, Bill. I think the audience approves of your decision. Perhaps they all want to come over and play pool with you. In any event, with the $4270 in cash and the pool table, you have won a total of Anyway, where was that Joker? He was ready to clean your clock behind the designer watches. However, Bill, you will be returning on the next show as the champion and face two more players. (Theme starts playing) For Leslie Banks, Dan Jensen, and the rest of the crew, I'm Joe Emerson, and thank you all for watching Top Card! See you next time. Leslie: Bye Bye! (continued applause from audience, Leslie, Bill, and I have a friendly chat during the credits.) Dan: Some of our departing contestants will receive: Dan: This is Dan Jensen speaking. Top Card is a Reid/Land production.
