I'd like to keep the team as it is.

(audience cheers, five-shot of team) Very well, very well. That simplifies the math for me. Everybody's playing for $200,000. Here is your $1,000,000 question. (the spotlights move to the center as the think cue starts)(the question is revealed)The category is AT THE BOX OFFICE. According to Box Office Mojo, which four of these six movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016? [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [][] [][] [][] (the answers are revealed)La La Land, Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory, Zootopia, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story or Deadpool? [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [La La Land][Captain America: Civil War] [Finding Dory][Zootopia] [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story][Deadpool]
(sounder) And that sound means you get a Greed Freebie. You can eliminate one wrong answer right now, or use it on a future question. Bear in mind, the last time you can use it is the $4,000,000 question. Would you like to use your Freebie now or wait?

I'll wait. I think I know all the answers.

Oh, you do? Well, then, your job should be easy.
We'll start with Sam. Sam, four of those six movies made over a billion. Name one of them.

Ack! Why me to go first?! (Audience laughter)
Well, I wish he doesn't have to do a lot of ditching and switching answers....
Now about the question... I'm going to say 'Rouge One: A Star Wars Story.', Greg.

That's Rogue One, but we knew what you meant. Steven, you're up next.

And for the record, Jon can only switch one answer this question, if he so chooses.

Straight to the point. Now, Jon, we have four answers there. Since you're captain, you may change one and only one answer this question, if you so choose. Now, you said you knew the answers to this question, so do you think those are the ones? Will you keep them as is or change one?

I'm pretty confident on three of them. There's one that I am unsure of, though. I seem to remember reading somewhere, though, that the highest-grossing animated movie of 2016 was "Zootopia." With that in mind, I think I'd like to change FINDING DORY to ZOOTOPIA, please.

(answer selected) [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [La La Land][Captain America: Civil War] [Finding Dory][Zootopia] [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story][Deadpool]
All right. Now, the moment of truth. Let's see if you're right. We start with Kourtney's answer. Captain America: Civil War. Did that make over a billion worldwide? (shot of Kourtney) [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [La La Land][Captain America: Civil War] [Finding Dory][Zootopia] [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story][Deadpool] (right)(audience cheers) Yes, sir. In fact, that was the highest-grossing film of the year, making over $1.1 billion. Next, Sam's answer. Did Rogue One make over a billion dollars? (shot of Sam) [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [La La Land][Captain America: Civil War] [Finding Dory][Zootopia] [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story][Deadpool] (right)(audience cheers) Yes, it did. Second-highest grossing film of the year. (shot of Jon) Now, we have Jon's answer. Did Zootopia make over a billion last year? [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [La La Land][Captain America: Civil War] [Finding Dory][Zootopia] [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story][Deadpool] (right)(audience cheers) Yes! (back to shot of Jon and me, I pull something out of my desk/lectern) Well, Jon..... that's three right answers so far. All that's left is Doug's answer of Deadpool. What I have here is $100,000 in cash. (I give the money to Jon) You do whatever it is you want to do with that money. You can keep the money right now, split it amongst yourselves, and forget this whole thing.... or you can give it back to me, and we'll find out whether Doug's answer is right for a million. What do you want to do? (audience shouts suggestions)

Hmmmm...mmm-mmm-mmm...$100,000...sounds great, but $1,000,000 sounds even sweeter. I'm almost certain that DEADPOOL is the remaining right answer. It got rave reviews, and superhero films tend to be popular. It was also out for a long time in 2016. I think it's the right answer. Greg, you can take the money back!

(Jon hands the money back, audience reacts) OK, then. (shot of Doug) For one million dollars...... is Deadpool correct? (silence) (wrong)(loud groans from audience) [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [La La Land][Captain America: Civil War] [Finding Dory][Zootopia] [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story][Deadpool]
Oh no! Jon.... I'm so sorry. Let's see what the right answer was. [$1,000,000] [Which four movies earned over $1 billion worldwide gross sales in 2016?] [La La Land][Captain America: Civil War] [Finding Dory][Zootopia] [Rogue One: A Star Wars Story][Deadpool]
It was Finding Dory! (louder groans) You did need to switch one, but it was Deadpool you needed to switch. That film only made $783 million, while Finding Dory made $1.028 billion. That was the highest-grossing animated film of 2016. I'm so sorry, Jon. Now, Doug, I have to ask you. When I agreed with Kourtney's statement that the Marvel Franchise can't be stopped, did that influence your answer in any way?

Oh, good. I gotta check these things because this is a Fox game show, and things happen on Fox game shows every so often. Anyway, you've lost the half-million you had and you're all getting a week at the Westin Bonaventure and a $500 Amazon gift card. However.... (I walk over to Jon) let's not think, about the half-million you've lost. What amazes me is that all five of you stood together, and none of you stabbed anybody in the back. (I put my arm around Jon's shoulder) Now, Jon.... when Dick Clark--- God rest his soul! -- when Dick Clark developed this format, he wanted group participation and a share-the-wealth ethos. He was inspired by offices chipping in on lottery tickets. It was a Fox executive that made the game so cutthroat. I offered you $25,000, but no! You decided to band together, all for one, one for all. I'm not kidding, All for One was the original title. You'd all win together, and now you've all *lost* together. But you lost in a way that Dick Clark is looking down.... yes, Dick Clark is looking down from heaven --- I'm stretching, folks --- Dick Clark is looking down from heaven, and smiling. You've made America's Oldest Teenager very happy. God bless all of you.
Anything any of you'd like to say before you go?

That you did, that you did. Ah, that reminds me. We got so into the game, that Jon never got a chance to talk about the time he tutored the "first kid". Why don't you tell us about that?

Post by jmdarrall on Apr 14, 2017 10:04:54 GMT -5
Yes, I tutored the son of South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges. Met the governor and all. I didn't realize, though, it was the first kid until a colleague pointed that out.

Ah, very interesting. Thank you all so much for playing. We'll be back in "two and two". (I do the "two and two" hand gesture)
(main theme starts up) (cheers and applause) (fade to commercial)
[Now looking for five new players. If you're interested, send me a PM with your name, hometown, occupation, and an interesting fact. If I don't have five people by the 22nd, I'm shutting it down.]

(OK, it looks like I'll have to shut this down. However, to create a full illusion of an hour...... I'll just have to make up a game here. Five new players come in, they clear the first four questions.) Unfortunately, gang, we've run out of time. So, we're going to give you all week to decide whether or not you'll be playing for the million. Everybody's got $100,000 cash, will they go on? Find out next Friday at 9 Eastern and Pacific, 8 Central. Now, stay tuned for your local news over most of these Fox stations. Keep smiling, and good night from Greed. (I give the Dick Clark Salute) [MAIN THEME](shot of the set, cheers and applause)
