Scrabble rules update for 2017. I really hope to get the next episode started this week. I thank you for your patience, especially the two players who have been waiting to compete.
FRONT GAME RULES
The first player to score three words wins the Crossword Round and plays the Scrabble Sprint.
As before, numbered tiles will control the remaining letters in the word, with three stoppers mixed in. A stopper is a letter that does not belong in the word.
Each word will be worth a certain dollar value.
Word values are - $150, $150, $200, $250, $300, and $450. There are two $150 cards and one each of the other four amounts.
Prior to the start of a word, the player in control will select one of six envelopes revealing one of those six word values.
The player who wins the word will have that value deposited into his/her bank.
Only the winning player gets to keep all the money in his/her bank.
If the losing player lost for just the first time in the Crossword Round, they get to play another Crossword Round.
If a losing player loses two consecutive Crossword Rounds, they are through.
If a player solves a word on a bonus square, extra money will be added into their bank. Again, in order to claim it, they must win the game.
Solving on a blue square adds $500 to their bank.
Solving on a pink square adds $1,000 to their bank.
Additional money is awarded for the winner of the game.
If the winning player wins 3 words to 2, they will win another $500.
If the winning player wins 3 words to 1, they will win another $750.
If the winning player wins 3 words to 0, they will win another $1,000.
SCRABBLE SPRINT
The first Crossword Round winner will play three words.
That player will get to select from either the pink or blue packet.
Both packets contain three words. Both sets of words are the same number of letters. So if one packet's words are 5, 7 and 8 letters long, so too shall the other packet's words.
The first Crossword Round winner will select from numbered tiles, and each letter that corresponds to the tile selected will be placed in the word.
The "time" will be based on how many total tiles a player needs to solve all three words.
Any incorrect solve will add a 5 tile penalty.
The winner of the second Crossword Round will play the other packet of words and must solve all three using fewer tiles than the first player did.
The second player's time will count backwards.
Any incorrect solve by the second player will subtract a 5 tile penalty.
Whoever loses Scrabble Sprint is finished and cannot return again for a minimum of three episodes.
The Scrabble Sprint total amount played for will be the combined bank totals of each winner's Crossword Round earnings.
Crossword Round earnings are kept regardless of the outcome of the Scrabble Sprint.
BONUS SPRINT
I combined the Bonus Sprint and Jackpot Tiles for this final segment of the show.
As before, to win bonus cash, a player must solve two sprint words correctly using a maximum of 6 tiles combined.
Before the round begins, the player will be presented with a board of 26 tiles, each one represented by the letters A through Z.
The player will select five of those tiles.
Each tile conceals a cash amount ranging from $200 up to $500.
The breakdown is as follows: (5) $200, (1) $225, (2) $250, (1) $275, (2) $300, (1) $325, (2) $350, (1) $375, (2) $400, (1) $425, (2) $450, (1) $475, and (5) $500
The total of the five tiles will be revealed. The minimum total would be $1,000 while the maximum total would be $2,500.
If a player solves the first Bonus Sprint word, they will win the total of the 5 tiles.
If a player solves the second Bonus Sprint word, that total will then be multiplied by the JACKPOT tiles.
Hidden behind each letter in JACKPOT will be a different multiplier.
The multipliers are 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 20.
So if a player has $2,500 and hits the 20 multiplier, the payoff for the Bonus Sprint would be $50,000.
After five Scrabble Sprint wins, a $25,000 added bonus is won.
After winning another five Scrabble Sprint rounds, another $50,000 added bonus is won and that player retires after completing the 10th and final Bonus Sprint game.
