Welcome back to Scrabble. Now we're going to get into the meat and potatoes of the game, the first of our two crossword rounds.
Each round consists of at least four words, and each word is assigned a different dollar amount.
The first word is always 9 letters and worth $100 in score money, second word is 8 letters and $150, third word is 7 letters and $200, fourth word is 6 letters and $250. If a fifth word is necessary, it is a 5 letter word and worth $300 and that is played as a Speedword. More about that if we get to it.
First player to score $500 or more wins one game, and the first player to win two games wins the championship and will get to play the Bonus Sprint as well as that new added game the JACKPOT tiles, and that could be worth up to $50,000! (NBC canned "oohs").
If either player wins a game $700 to $0, that is considered a Clean Sweep. We are instituting a jackpot now for that. It starts at $500 and we'll add $250 to it at the start of each crossword round if it is not won.
Since it was not hit yesterday for either game, it starts today at $1,000.
You'll also notice beside me a blue and a pink envelope. If a player lands on either a blue or pink bonus square and are able to solve the word at that moment, they will get to choose one of these envelopes. In one it will say "PLAYER", in the other it will say "BONUS". Select the one marked player and you'll win $500 instantly for solving a word on a blue square and $1,000 instantly in bonus money for a pink square. If you select the one marked bonus, then we'll deposit $1,000 into the Bonus Sprint jackpot, and for a pink square $2,500.
Right now the Bonus Sprint jackpot is worth $12,500. That's how much will be won if either of you solves both words with a total of six letter selections, and of course that may increase during our game today.
We begin the first crossword game with our challenger, that's you Steve.
Building off of the letter A, nine letters in this word and the clue is....

The remaining letters in the word are controlled by those eleven numbered tiles that are placed between you and Bryan. Remember too, three of those tiles contain stoppers, those are letters that do not belong in the word.
Steve, if you know the word, you can try to solve it right now, otherwise, please select two numbered tiles and we'll see what letters you draw.
