And number 1 reveals for us... Stop! At a Whammy!!! (Whammy animation) "All I need is cash....give me all your money!" No no no! The bad news Jon, you hit a block, the good news is on WordPlay, you do NOT lose your cash as a result, only your turn! Howsoever, this is an ENORMOUS break for you Andrew. Especially since all puzzles are now worth double the dollars, so you can really catch up fast here... Only 2 blocks remaining Andrew. Avoid them at all cost. What number?

And 21 has... Clue Words, first time in this category. Andrew, quite simply, we're going to show you a series of three clue words which will help lead you to the identity of another word. Here are your three clue words... Five, Cent and Coin. For the money Andrew, what is the answer?

Post by gameshowgeek50 on Aug 7, 2016 16:15:35 GMT -5
That would be a nickle Bill.

|

And if it were minted in the forest it would be a wooden nickel! And now a chance to add a whole lot of nickels to your total Andrew. Top or Bottom, and then which letter?

And the value of the money amount will be doubled incidentally.

OK, I need a huge amount to catch Jon. So lets go back to the top row with the W please Bill.

And that is worth... $450, when doubled makes it $900... Lo and behold, we have a game here! Jon, last trip to the board before we do the wager round. Last chance to add some dollars to your bank. Thus far you've eliminated two of the five blocks from the board, and Andrew one. Two more blocks up there Jon, avoid them, and good luck!

19, please.

I am fond of that number, since that's my birth date! 19 is... The other Connect A Word puzzle. Let's look at the screen, shall we? The clue is Capricorn animal. Again two reminders, all letters touch either on one side or one corner, and please provide the numbers in the correct order that correspond with the given letters in our grid. Jon, you have until 5am EST on Wednesday, August 10th to answer. (Note to contestants, due to an upcoming vacation, the bonus game will not start until sometime after August 15th, but hopefully no later than August 17th).

And that is worth.. OH BOY!!! (Wild cheers & applause) The big one! $750 which is doubled to $1,500! Andrew, the pressure is on now. You have to avoid one of the two blocks remaining on the question board. If you hit one, Jon will automatically win this game since the final wager will be deemed unnecessary since he has more than twice your present score. So Andrew you need to find a question and get it right to still remain alive mathematically. Big big pick coming up here for Andrew. Ten numbers remain, 8 are safe. What number Andrew?

Darn it, I should have went to the right on the top. But no matter, please let there be no block behind number 10.

|
|
Post by billmcdee on Aug 9, 2016 3:38:54 GMT -5
And number 10 is... Not a block! (cheering & applause) It's a COMMON BOND puzzle. The same word will fit in the blank all three times. Andrew, your answer is due no later than 4:45am EST on Thursday, August 11th, and although I will be in vacation mode, I should still be able to check the status of the game from where I am at, assuming the motel has functioning Wi-Fi Also Andrew, for the sake of expediency, I'm going to put up the Cash Cards board and ask you to also select a letter to see how much money you will add to your total. So please select top or bottom, and then a letter.

My answer is doctor and I will select the Y on the bottom row.

|
|
Post by billmcdee on Aug 10, 2016 4:24:09 GMT -5
You got it! Still alive!
Y on the bottom is $300, doubled to $600...
Jon has $3,550
Andrew has $2,200
Please check the vacation thread players. When I return, I will have you both check in and we'll do the final wager at that time.
Back after a while!

(Off camera)
Okay players, I should be able to get online tomorrow once I get home, get unpacked, and get laundry started, so at this time, consider your scores and consider carefully your secret wagers.
Please submit your wagers to me via private message.
They must be in increments of $50. You may bet $0 if you wish.
Jon, you currently have $3,550. Andrew you currently have $2,200 so it is possible for you to catch Jon.
When the show resumes, Andrew will get first pick of the remaining boxes on the question board. A right answer will add to his score, a wrong answer or missed deadline will deduct his wager from his score.
Then after Andrew's turn, Jon will get to play to try to add to his front game winnings.
Both players keep their winnings, but the high scorer plays the solo game for up to $25,000.
Best,
Bill

(fade from black to applause) Well friends, it is time for us to play "The Final Word". Both Jon and Andrew have secretly wagered and will try to add that to their total right now with one final clue, one final word. Andrew, since you are currently behind, you get to pick first from the board. 2 of the 9 remaining squares have blocks. If you pick a block, you won't lose your wager, you will simply remain at $2,200. And regardless of what happens Andrew, Jon will play next. Which number Andrew?

Post by gameshowgeek50 on Aug 15, 2016 17:08:39 GMT -5
Well no matter what happens, I have had a great time here and Jon was an excellent opponent.
With that, I am going to go with number 6.
|
|
|
Post by billmcdee on Aug 16, 2016 3:25:22 GMT -5
And number 6 is... Oh no! (HORN) Well Andrew, you didn't lose anything on that pick, but you won't be able to win any more either. $2,200 regardless of the outcome. Now this is an odd situation. Jon, if you pick a block, you automatically win. If you pick a question and are wrong, and if you happen to have wagered more than $1,350, then Andrew would still win! Jon, what number do you select?

Odd situation, indeed. I'll try box 9, please.

Number 9 is... (flip) INITIAL THOUGHTS. Incidentally this will be the last time this category appears on WordPlay. Here's your initials... Z And the question, for the win... Jon, your answer please.

That's a ZONK.

|
Post by billmcdee on Aug 17, 2016 12:55:12 GMT -5
And for the first time ever, a Zonk proves to be a winner!!!
(Hot Potato win cue)
And your wager was $1,450! Good thing you got that right or you would have lost!
A grand total of $5,000 Jon! You'll be playing our solo game in a moment.
Andrew, one miscue coupled with a couple of ill-timed blocks presented too many challenges to overcome, however you did pick up $2,200 in cash winnings! Thank you for being here on WordPlay!
(applause)
(theme plays)
Jon and I will be back after this!

(APPLAUSE) Jon is back and about to play our Solo Game which can be worth actually up to $50,000! Here's how it will go. Jon, in a moment a board will appear above my noggin. It is marked off in four colored rows and 14 numbered columns. I will ask you a series of 10 questions. You get to answer only once per question. If you get it wrong or if you pass on it, you won't earn a pick from the big money bonus board. For every word you do get however, you will earn one pick from our big money bonus board... Cash awards from $500 all the way up to $2,500 are hidden up there some place, along with one card that is worth $0, and one that hides the bandit. If at any time you select him, it's game over and you lose all of your bonus game winnings, but the $5,000 you won in the front game is safe from him. Let's have a look at the puzzle board: A sample question might be... It is known as the Sunshine state. You must identify which row the correct answer is in, be it red, green, yellow or blue, followed by the position number of the first letter of the correct answer, and then finally the answer itself. You would then say "Yellow, position 2, Florida." I will provide you the 10 questions now. Remember only one answer per word and you may pass if you wish, but a pass is considered to be wrong, so might as well take a guess since there's no harm and no foul in doing so. Question 1 - A former political party in the United States Question 2 - A popular vitamin product Question 3 - A famous Carol Question 4 - A type of alert Question 5 - Ernie's roommate Question 6 - Former NBC News anchor Question 7 - Famous author of "Little House" books Question 8 - Sometimes in a martini Question 9 - Tonight Show sidekick Question 10 - Title of an early 1980s CBS Spinoff series Answers due no later than Saturday, August 20th at 3:15pm Eastern Standard Time United States
