While Gambit PM is on a temporary hiatus, and before I take my vacation from August 10 - 15, I'd like to try to get one episode of Word Play done.
Check out the rules of the game in the Announcements section, and the first two to sign up will get to go at it.
Best,
Bill

www.televisiontunes.com/Hot_Potatos.htmlFRANK CALIENDO (as Charlie O'Donnell) Can you figure out what this means? Looking back! And what word springs to mind when you see these clues? Why "Tree" of course... And can you figure out that these clues are saying, Grover Cleveland? Today, these two players will be trying to solve puzzles like these and others, right here on... Word Play! (applause) And now, here is Bill McDee! (applause) Say, that's me! Thank you Frank, and thank you ladies and gentlemen of the jury. Welcome to Word Play, a game of luck, skill and strategy. At the end of our program today, one of these fine gents will play our solo game where as much as $25,000 in cash could be won! To my left, and to the audience's and home viewer's right, at the blue desk today we have Andrew. (applause & cheers) Andrew, if you could, tell us your last name please, where you're from, what you do, and all that.

Hi Bill, it is an honor to be here.
But Anyway, my name is Andrew Budny and I am from Youngstown Ohio. I currently work as an senior library assistant for an well know university in which you may have seen an ad for in this years super bowl and I am currently in the process of finishing up my master's degree in library and information science with a specialization in archives and special collections librarianship. In my spare time I enjoy writing, watching and reading Japanese anime and Manga and collecting antique pocket watches.

Antique pocket watches you say? Sounds like a fun hobby to pass the time.
(groaning in the audience)
Thankfully this is Word Play and not Make Me Laugh! Andrew, sounds like this game of words is right up your alley! Best wishes to you in the game.
And at the red desk, is Jon Darrall. Jon, you did very well on another word related game show a few years ago, yes?

Ha-ha, yes! I was actually a contestant on Wheel of Fortune in 2013, winning over $17,000. I am from Greenville, South Carolina, where I work as a test prep instructor and community relations developer. My hobbies include traveling, rock and pop music, and following baseball and MMA.

Congrats to you Jon on winning so much on Wheel of Fortune. Perhaps you'll win even more here on WordPlay. Object of our game is for our players to solve a series of word puzzles to earn cash. Have a look at the WordPlay game board in all its glory... 21 numbered boxes. We play with 8 different categories, each one appears twice on the board. Five of the boxes contain blocks. If you select a block, you simply lose your turn. Correctly solved puzzles will earn our players a right to select from our cash cards board. The board contains money amounts valued anywhere from $250, all the way up to one worth $750. At the end of our game, the player with the most money wins the game and goes on to play our solo round for a chance at thousands of dollars more! Usually the returning champion goes first, however, since this is our first episode and since Jon signed up first, Jon is our champion pro tempore. John, select a box please, and good luck in avoiding one of those 5 blocks.

Number 14 is... A block! (groans in the audience). So sorry about that Jon, but it's very early in the game and one block is out of the way. Andrew, your turn now.

Alrighty. Now that there are only four blocks left on the board and since I have a good feeling about this number, I am going to go with lucky number 7.

I see what you did there Andrew. Close is not what we were looking for.
Jon, you have a chance to steal this. What's the correct answer?

BECK. Glenn Beck and Beck and Call.

Post by billmcdee on Jul 27, 2016 11:00:07 GMT -5
BECK is the correct answer!
(applause)
Andrew I think perhaps you missed seeing the word "AND" next to Call there.
W O R D P L A Y
W O R D P L A Y
16 money amounts hidden on the board.
Jon, select top or bottom, and select one of the letters in WORDPLAY to determine how much you scored on that correct puzzle answer.

(cheering) We are back and although both players got off to a rough start, Jon has scored $600, nothing yet for Andrew, but there's lots more game play to be had! Jon, your turn to go to the board again... Seven and Fourteen are out of commission. Four blocks remain on the board. Try to avoid one here Jon. What number?

Let's take 8, please.

Hoping to avoid another block... Ah! Connect A Word. Here's the board players: Here's a sample question. What a brand new father might be offered to puff on. The answer is CIGAR. To connect the word however, you must do so by stating the numbers associated with each letter. So for this, the answer would be given as: 1, 6, 7, 11, 8. All the letters are connected either horizontally, vertically or diagonally, or any combination thereof. Jon, here's your question. Remember the answer will be the numbers associated with the letters. You have until 7:30am EST on Monday, August 1st (good golly is it August already?!?!?!) to reply.
