There will be rules as well as artwork.
Two players compete, red is the champion, blue is the challenger. What can I say? The Card Sharks influences of the 1970s will forevermore have me associate red with the champ and blue with the challenger!
Game play will go back and forth. There will be no buzzcodes.
The main game board:
For those of you old enough to remember, or who were fortunate enough to see it on Youtube when the video still existed, this game board was inspired by a short-lived Geoff Edwards NBC game show from 1977 called "Shoot for the Stars".
Category Boxes:
There are 8 word play categories. Each will appear twice somewhere on the 21 numbered board. The other 5 numbers will have blocks placed. If a player hits a block, they simply lose their turn.
These categories are, for the most part, reincarnated from categories I used when I hosted "Acey-Deucey" and later "Split Decision".
A Wuzzle is a word puzzle that often will involve the positioning of letters. These are often featured in many newspapers and are written by Tom Underwood.
An example:
S
M
O
T
T
O
B
It's the word "BOTTOMS" but going in an upward direction, so the answer to this would be "BOTTOMS UP".
COMMON BOND:
This is basically just like the Super Match in Match Game, except the answers are shown, and you have to fill in the blank...
An example:
_____ CLINTON
_____ CULLEN
_____ McDEE
And the common bond of course is "BILL".
MISSING LINK:
Inspired by Chain Reaction and Before and After Wheel of Fortune Puzzles.
An example:
DOLLAR
__________
McDEE
The answer again is "BILL", as there is a dollar bill and I am Bill McDee, so Bill is the common bond in this example.
CLUE WORDS:
This is just like Password. The answer is one word, and the three clue words given are one word each.
An example:
CANVAS
CAMPING
PUP
The answer would be "TENT" in this case, since a tent is made of canvas often times, and is used while camping, and one specific type of tent is a pup tent.
WORD IN A WORD
A longer word will be shown, and a question will be asked. The object is to find the answer by using some of the letters in the longer word:
Two examples:
CALIFORNIA - The name of a famous SeaWorld whale. ORCA
PASTRAMI - An unwelcome kind of e-mail or a famous canned meat product. SPAM
CONNECT A WORD
This is in essence Boggle with questions asked.
Here's a sample board and I'll demonstrate a couple of sample questions:
C N D H
L I G R
P M A O
Y E W T
The number after one... T-W-O
What plants often do when you water them... G-R-O-W
The letters can connect vertically, horizontally or diagonally. The visual will be clearer. In all cases, the board will always have 16 different letters as well.
INITIAL THOUGHTS:
One or more initials will be shown and a question asked, same as Blockbusters.
Example:
G.W. - A founding father and first United States President (George Washington)
IN OTHER WORDS:
The game shows "Shoot for the Stars" and "Double Talk" used these type of puzzles.
Example:
OPPOSITE OF FRONT / REMUNERATION
Answer - BACK PAY
If the first player either misses an answer or a deadline, the other player has the chance to steal.
If a player makes a correct solve, they will get to pick from the CASH CARDS.
The board is divided into two halves, both say WORD PLAY, top half in orange, bottom half in purple.
The winner of the puzzle picks a color (Orange or Purple) and a letter (W, O, R, D, P, L, A, Y). Whatever amount of money is hidden behind that box goes into the player's bank.
Round 1 - One turn for each player, then a commercial break.
Round 2 - Three turns for each player, then a commercial break.
Round 3 - Two turns for each player, and the money amounts are doubled, then each player will make a secret wager on one final question, then a commercial break.
Round 4 - Wager Round. The player who is behind will go first. They will select one of the remaining 21 numbers from the main game board. If they hit a block, they don't lose any money, but they cannot win any money either. If there is a puzzle and they get it right, they will add to their winnings. If wrong or if a deadline is missed (48 hours), the wager is subtracted. Then the other player selects one of the remaining 21 boxes and plays that puzzle.
Only during the first 3 rounds of play can one player steal money from their opponent, and only if the opponent misses the answer or misses a deadline.
No stealing takes place during Round 4, the wager round. Also, all wagers must be in $25 increments. A player can elect to wager $0.
The player with the high score wins the match and plays the bonus board. Both players keep whatever money has been won.
If the money score is tied after the wager round, one mystery word is played.
TIEBREAKER: Seven blanks representing the 7 letters of a mystery word will be shown. Players will take turns as to how few letters they will need to solve the word.
Once one player challenges the other, the number of letters bid will be filled in at random, via random.org. There will be no clues given either with respect to the mystery word.
Segment 5 BONUS BOARD
A "Now You See It" type board will appear. I will ask 10 questions. For every word found, one pick of the 21 numbered big game board will be earned.
This time however, the big board won't have categories or blocks. Instead there will be money cards, one "DOUBLE" and one "BUST" card.
A player can quit after picking, but if they risk it and hit the BUST card, they lose it all.
21 numbered boxes:
1 - DOUBLE
1 - BUST
1 - $2,500
1 - $2,000
1 - $1,750
1 - $1,500
1 - $1,250
1 - $1,000
1 - $900
2 - $800
2 - $750
1 - $700
1 - $650
1 - $625
1 - $600
1 - $550
2 - $500
1 - $0
Maximum potential payoff $25,000.
Once the player ends the bonus game, or if they do not hit the BUST and go all the way, whatever the pot is worth is won. If the DOUBLE card has been discovered, the final total of the bonus pot is doubled.
Five time champions retire undefeated and win a super bonus of $50,000.
