My understanding is Turkey for the most part has been more secular than religious (Islamic), however their current president has been leading the country more and more into the religious path and away from the secular path, thus potentially creating another habitat for the growth of ISIS, as evidenced by the bombing that took place at the Istanbul airport.
While things do seem very uncertain and scary, I would just remind you that the 1960s was a very turbulent time in world history too, from the assassinations of JFK, RFK and Dr. King, to VietNam, to the rise of the Cold War, to police taking hoses to anti-war and anti-establishment protestors, to the Civil Rights Act. The world made it through those very uncertain and crazy times, and history tends to be cyclical. The 1940s were crazy between Pearl Harbor's bombing and the rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany and Mussolini in Italy. Now Japan, Germany and Italy are all allies to the United States today.
The biggest difference in this current war is it is not against a nation or a series of nations, rather, it is against a warped and perverted ideology of the religion of Islam, which is something that our current leadership in the United States is unable and unwilling to call it.
Weak foreign policy measures, enacted mostly by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has helped to contribute to the rise of this terror both here and abroad.
Obama's policy of letting in refugees from this part of the world without any documentation, without any idea if they are terrorists or sympathizers to ISIS or not has contributed to terror happening here at home.
The EU's attitude of having "open borders" has allowed the caliphate of ISIS to spread into nations such as France, Turkey, Belgium, the UK, and probably every where else. This is a big reason why the U.K. has elected to exit from the European Union, and I believe the horrific terror attacks that have occurred in France may very well lead France to follow suit.
For those of us old enough to remember, and I dare say I am probably the eldest one here, pushing age 50, terror such as this was contained to just the middle east primarily during the 1970s. 1993 was when the current treaty was signed to form the current EU. 1993 as you may also recall was the first attack on the World Trade Center in New York, just a month after Bill Clinton took office as our 42nd President.
As the United States goes, so goes the rest of the world. Our current leadership believes it is better to kiss butt. The presumptive Republican nominee, Mr. Trump's philosophy is it is better to kick butt.
We'll find out hopefully by the end of the night on November 8th, if not sooner, whether the American people are satisfied with the status quo of the economy, illegal immigration and the rise of Islamic terrorism in this country and throughout the world, or if they are ready to try to turn things back around again.
