At long last, we're resuming with Crag: The Numbers Game.
Some notes...
\ Since it's been awhile since we've played an episode and we completed "a Friday episode", we're going to call this our second season debut.
\ Also since it's been awhile, this qualifying round is open to all except those who played in Episode 20 as well as the champions who've won five straight matches, John Lopez and Marc Enyedy. (To John and Marc, tournament of champions plans are on hold. I've tried to get the other big winner from the previous netgame version of Crag here. Will keep trying.)
And now, let's playing qualifying. The two players closest to the right answer, high or low, get to play. The question.
Before the show, a member of our Crag staff rolled three British money dice. The numbers 1 through 6 were replaced with, respectively, 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p 20p and 50p. What is the sum of the single roll of the three dice (to clarify, 100p = £1.00)? Please make sure your answer is lower than £1.51 and higher than 2p.
This game operates on 24-hour deadlines. Please PM me your answer in 24 hours from now.

First, let's see how the roll came out. (Crag staffer shakes up bucket; pours dice down ramp) 5p, 20p and 50p add up to 75p. Who's the closest? £0.75 redrangerdudeLenny Jackson's right on target. Next closest? £0.80 mrb2000
Matt Bingel -- only 5p away. New game starts after station identification. Staff announcer: ABC 8 -- Calhoun City. (lights in studio gradually are turned on)
(audience cheers)Helloooo, everybody, I'm Doug Morris and welcome to a new season of Crag: The Numbers Game -- where 13 can still be your lucky number. With the right combination of knowledge, strategy and luck, one of our contestants could win more than $1,000,000 in cash *and* a new car. (audience cheers)We'll tell you more about the sweet ride one of our contestants could drive out in. But first, let's welcome our first two players for this new season of Crag. Warmest of welcomes to Lenny Jackson and Matt Bingel (audience cheers)Lenny, you're our designated champion. So -- please tell us about yourself.

Ah, strangely enough, one of my former co-workers visited me -- and she lives in D.C.
She loves it there. Hope you do too. Good luck to you today -- and good luck to Matt. Matt, please tell us about yourself.

I am Matt Bingel from Baltimore, Maryland and I am a huge fan of The Muppets. I also, about 3 weeks ago, finished up my sophomore year of high school. My favorite Muppet is Kermit, but I have a huge crush on Miss Piggy.

Ah, best of luck to you in your further education. We have D.C. versus Baltimore today. Again, best of luck to you as we start a new season with this new match. Much like the regular dice game of Crag, our game is all about numbers -- particularly the numbers you can roll on dice. The right answer to each question on our show is a number between 1 and 6 inclusive. Sometimes, we'll ask for the Roman numeral or ordinal equivalent of one of those numbers. And there are also missing digit questions to watch for. I'll explain how they work later. (ding)With just the one question mark on the board, we're starting off with a single digit question. Hands on the buzzers -- and way we go. Single digit question: According to the nursery rhyme "Rub-A-Dub-Dub", how many men are in a tub? 77 redrangerdude (1st) 77 mrb2000 (2nd) 91 randomizer.org[NOTE FROM DOUG: How ya like this? One question in and we have a tie. Ordinals in parentheses indicated who PMed me sooner. Lenny takes the tie-break edge. So...] (Lenny buzzes in)Lenny?

Lenny says there were 3 men in the tub. Let's see if our player from the nation's capital is right. (ding; audience applause)Yes. Now -- let's see if I remember who they were. They were the butcher, the policeman and the construction worker, right? (scattered laughter from the crowd) No -- only kidding. Butcher, baker and candlestick maker. Lenny, with that correct answer, you've earned up to two rolls of the Crag dice. If you like what you come up with on your first roll, take the point value of the combination and we'll proceed to Round 2. If you'd rather reroll, freeze up to two dice and reroll the rest. Now, over here, we have the different ways you can score a lot of points. There are four different straights in the game of Crag worth 20 points each. The 1-2-3 make up a low straight; 4-5-6 a high straight; 1-3-5 an odd straight making 2-4-6 an even straight. It doesn't matter how they appear on the board -- just as long as they're all different and they're all low, high, odd or even. If you roll three of the same number, that's a triple for 25 points. And as I said at the start of the show, 13 *is* a lucky number in this game. If you roll three different numbers that total 13, I'll double the sum for 26. But if you have a pair of numbers plus an odd number that total 13, that's a Crag for 50 points. (audience cheers)(rolling sfx)So the dice are now rolling for the first time this season. They lock into your buzzer one at a time. Let's see how many points we award in Round 1.
(Lenny, to stop the dice, please respond with three letters from A through F inclusive. You may repeat letters if you think that will help.)

(ding)Stop on a 3. (ding)Stop on another 3. (ding) (scattered cheers) And stop on a third 3 for a 25-point triple. Lenny, would you like 25 points -- or do you want to reroll?
(Lenny, in the event you wish to reroll, please tell me which dice you'd like to freeze -- then choose letters from A-F for each of the dice you're rerolling.)

So I gather you'd buy the belief good things come in threes. After Round 1: redrangerdude mrb2000Triple 3 gives you the early 25-0 lead. First player to reach 100 points wins the game and $2500; runner-up collects $500. First player in the match to roll a Crag picks up an extra $1000. Ultimately, the first player to rack up at least $5000 wins the match and a chance to roll for $1,000,000 in Super Crag. (audience cheers)So, Matt, you're back in. Round 2 toss-up question for both players (scans card) -- ah -- question writers are trying to get on my good side already. Here's the question. Single digit question: You're watching a regular season NBA game -- and my San Antonio Spurs have tied the Utah Jazz at the end of regulation. The teams will have to play an overtime period -- with how many minutes on the clock? 02 redrangerdude 29 mrb2000 53 randomizer.org (Matt buzzes in)Matt?

(ding)Stop on a 2. (ding)Stop on a 1. (ding)And stop on a 5. Well, do you want the 8 points Matt or another roll? Something I forgot to mention earlier. If no one reaches 100 points after ten complete rounds, the player closer to 100 wins the $2500 with the runner-up collecting $500. So -- with that, Matt -- take the 8 points or reroll?

Rerolling everything? (Matt nods "yes") Fair enough. Perfectly legal. Reroll everything, please. (rolling sfx)Let's see if you can do better. (ding)Stop on a 5. (ding)Stop on a 6. (ding)(audience cheers)And a 2 on the end completes a non-Crag 13. I'll double for 26 points. Two rounds in the books. Matt leads by 1 points. We're coming up on a missing digit question. Before we play it, let's play a sample question. (ding)This is the lowest value of an answer on the Double Jeopardy! on the standard version of the quiz show "Jeopardy". All you have to do is buzz in and tell me the missing digit. And here the correct answer is... (ding) ...4. Yup -- $400. Back in the old days, $400 was sometimes a winning score. In any event, let's clear the board and play the intended question for this third round. Missing digit question: The game show "Remote Control" was set in the basement of a fictional home on Whooping Cough Lane. I'll show you the house number as it was mentioned in the street address -- and you tell me the missing digit question. (ding)78 redrangerdude 75 mrb2000 51 randomizer.org (Matt buzzes in)Matt?
[NOTE TO BOTH PLAYERS: Now that you've each had a turn at the dice, please go ahead and provide stopper letters with your answer when you "buzz in first". Thanks.]

Okay, Matt says 2 is the last digit in the house number. Was Ken Ober's house located at 72 Whooping Cough Lane? (ding; audience applause)Sure was. Good job, Matt. (rolling sfx)Dice are yours again, Matt. You got the non-Crag. Let's see if a Crag happens here. (ding)Stop with a 4. (ding)Stop on a 6. (ding) (scattered cheers) And stop on a 3 for another non-Crag 13. Now to the Crag purists looking in for the first time, we know in the normal game you'd have to roll again and go for something else since 13 would been already marked on the scorecard. But here on Crag: The Numbers Game, Matt, you're allowed to stop and take another 26 points for the non-Crag 13. Want the 26 points or a reroll?

Another 26 points in your coffers. (scattered cheers) After Round 3: redrangerdude mrb2000And with that, Matt's only a Crag away from winning this first game and $2500. Lenny, a triple, Crag or non-Crag 13 can help. Round 4's starting. Getting ready to match movie stars as we fill in the blank. (MG'7x stinger) (scattered cheers) A certain action comedy movie was released in the summer of 2013 -- and starred Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. When Earl slides it open, fill in the blank of the title of this movie with a single digit number.(ding)16 redrangerdude 52 mrb2000 45 randomizer.org(Matt buzzes in)Matt?

Matt says the movie title is "2 Guns". Is that right? (ding; audience applause)Yes. All right, Matt. A Crag will win you $2500 and the game. Lenny, cross your fingers and hope for bad numbers. Here go the dice. (rolling sfx)Stop them when you're ready. (ding)There's a 2. (ding)There's a 6. (ding)And another 2. Well -- dice total 10 points if you stop here.

(time passes) (buzz buzz)No decision in time. That means we end the round here with 10 points more in Matt's coffers. After Round 4: redrangerdude mrb2000With that, he's up to 62. Lenny's still at 25. Anything can still happen as we start the fifth of ten rounds with another movie question. In the year 2004, ESPN released a movie about the life and career of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. The film starred Barry Pepper as the late indimidating NASCAR champion. What single digit number appears in the title of this movie? 98 redrangerdude 10 mrb2000 74 randomizer.org (Lenny buzzes in)Lenny?
