This morning my home computer gave me quite a scare. I've had it since December 2008 and it runs on Windows Vista, just to give you an idea of how old it is.
Last night, before turning in, I saw the red button indicating Windows updates, so I clicked on it, and went to sleep.
Every morning when I get up, I go into my man cave and turn the computer on. Did so this morning, and ended up with a black screen. I turned the computer off manually from the tower and waited 30 seconds.
Turned it back on again, got a black screen saying I could either start Windows or run some kind of check. I decided to run Windows. Then another black screen came on with SCNDSK and it was running all kinds of things, so while it was doing that, I went about doing other stuff to prepare for my day.
Finally, after 15 or 20 minutes, the Welcome screen came up, then my usual desktop screen with my icons came up and everything seemed to be functioning just fine.
I cannot know obviously whether that will remain to be the case, and if so, for how much longer. So long story short (I know, too late), if you do not see me or hear from me, that is why.
Best, Bill
