On our pilot, James hit us up for over $24,000 in cash and prizes, and he's ready to resume his winning ways. Please check in!
But, Edgar needs two more contestants to share his wit and wisdom with. I do ask that Darion and Matt sit this one out. Any takers?
Who's ready to test their musical mettle and do the Fandango?

Kevin, Kourtney, and James...ready to play! (Theme starts as the set is shown dark. Edgar's lights flash as he begins talking.) EDGAR: Today, three lucky players will match wits in a battle of musical knowledge. Come along and join the fun of... FANDANGO!(Set brightens, showing Blake at the showcase of grand prizes) EDGAR: The game where one of our contestants could win this rugged Jeep! Or, this sporty 19-foot Regal speedboat! Or, a cash pot worth $16,000. In total, over... $114,000....waiting to be won. And now, here's the host of "Fandango," please welcome Jonathan Darrall! (Applause. I run in from stage left, take the microphone from Blake, and take center stage as the curtain closes behind me) ME: Thanks, Edgar, and thank you, viewers! I welcome you to "Fandango," the game about songs and the stars and shows that made them famous. I want to introduce you to our lovely hostess at this time, ladies and gentlemen, I present Ms. Blake Pickett! (Blake walks out from behind the curtain and joins me) Hi, Blake. Tremendous episode we had yesterday, right? BLAKE: I'll say. What a debut, with our champ showing an impressive display of knowledge and winning a new Kia Soul. But, unlike the original, champs come back, win or lose, right? ME: That's right. Play until you win five games or someone else wins. We'll meet our champ and two challengers now. First, we have from New York, Kevin Kolsen! (Kevin comes out from stage right, shakes my hand, then takes the red podium). Second, from Georgia, Kourtney Wilson! (Kourtney comes out, shakes my hand, and takes the green podium). Finally, our champion, with a 1-day total of $24,055, James Greek! (James comes out, big smile on his face, then takes the blue podium) Those are our players, and in a few moments, we'll begin our game of music trivia. Stay with us! (Theme starts up again as the applause resumes)

(Applause as a camera swoops in from behind the contestants, zooming in on me, Blake, and Edgar) ME: I thank you for staying with us! Contestants, you know the rules. I'll ask a 10-point toss-up question, open to all. There are no penalties if you're wrong, so you might as well try them. If you're right, you get to pick a category from Edgar, the Talking Jukebox... EDGAR: That's the name, don't wear it out. ME: I won't, Edgar. In any event, bonus questions are worth anywhere from 20 to 100 points, in 10 point increments. You'll be the first to attempt the question. If you're wrong, no penalty, but the trailing opponent will get the next shot at the question, so everyone needs to be on their toes at all times. Highest score after two rounds wins, comes back for the next game, and plays the Fandango Grand Slam for a potential $25,000 or more. Edgar, you ready to upload today's categories? EDGAR: I sure am! This technology is great, isn't it? I just go hmmmmmmmmm.....and.....hup! (The category names start typing out on the screens as the audience applauds) Here ya go, eight categories for today's game. Now, we get to my favorite part...hearing from Blake. BLAKE: Thanks, Edgar. Today's categories are THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED; BLUEGRASS; MUSICAL GENRES; RHYME TIME; HEY, BARTENDER; TV THEMES; RELATIVELY SPEAKING; and....oh, dear...I don't think I can do this last one justice. Edgar, would you like to introduce the last one? EDGAR: Anything for the pretty lady (laughter as Blake blushes). Ready? Ahem-hem-hem...(speaking deeply and slowly)...HELLO, I'M JOHNNY CASH. (Normal voice) Huh? What do you think? (Applause from everyone, including me) ME: Very impressive, Edgar! You know what you should've done? You should've done the voice work in that movie "Walk the Line." EDGAR: Great movie. I actually did audition for it. But, the casting people told me that no one wanted to see a jukebox play Johnny Cash. They only wanted to HEAR a jukebox play Johnny Cash! Pffft-hahaha! Get it? PLAY Johnny Cash! (Audience laughs slightly...but mostly boos) That was a stretch, wasn't it? Let's play "Fandango"! ME: My three favorite words in the English language. Hands on buzzers for this toss-up (PM me a code 1-100, and starting this episode, when you answer a toss-up, you may post which category you'd like if you are right). In the 1970s, a popular country duet featured Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty singing about a woman and a man from these two neighboring Southeastern states. Name BOTH.

(Although you misspelled Mississippi, it did NOT change the pronunciation, so you are OK)
That's the song, and those are the states! You got your first 10 points, now choose your Bonus Board category.

Let's go with TV themes!
|
|
|
Post by jmdarrall on Oct 7, 2015 20:31:51 GMT -5
TV THEMES it is. Questions are about the theme songs to popular TV shows, past and present. Blake will reveal that the category is worth...(Blake touches the screen...the category name fades away and...BONG!) 40 points. Remember, the higher the points, the harder the question. Therefore, 40 means a relatively easy one. Kevin and Kourtney, be ready, because the question will become a toss-up if James is wrong. James... Edgar will play an excerpt from the theme song of one of the most popular sitcoms on TV today. When he stops, name the group performing it. Edgar, play it...
(Edgar plays this)
"The Earth began to cool/The autotrophs began to drool/Neanderthals developed tools/We built a wall (we built the pyramids)/Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries/That all started with the big bang!"

Wrong! (ERMP! James looks puzzled, then realizes his error)
Kevin and Kourtney, can you recover? (Send me a PM, 1-100, like you did earlier)

ME: That's the answer we needed! (Applause) James, that was indeed the theme from "The Big Bang Theory," but that wasn't what I asked. I asked for the GROUP. Kourtney paid attention and got 40 points. James has 10, and Kevin has nothing yet. Be careful, and make sure you understand the question before you ring in or respond.
EDGAR: That's right, you don't want to, as Bill Anderson once said, "put the right string on the wrong yo-yo."
ME: Good adage, Edgar. Let's try another toss-up for 10.
In 2014, this country and pop superstar became the first woman ever to knock herself off the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Who is she?

She's the one! (Applause) In November 2014, "Blank Space" went to #1, knocking off "Shake It Off." Nicely solved, Kourtney. You have 50 points and the lead. Which Bonus category would you like? You can have anything but TV THEMES.

Let's do rhyme time, please.

Post by jmdarrall on Oct 11, 2015 10:26:50 GMT -5
RHYME TIME - all the answers here will be rhyming words and phrases. Blake will reveal that it's worth...(she touches the screen...BONG!) The big one! 100 points! Of course, because that's the highest in points, that's the highest in difficulty. Listen carefully, everyone. Kevin, if Kourtney misses, it will go to you first. Kourtney... When this country-rock-folk band formed in 1966, Jackson Browne was one of its members. Since then, the band has undergone several changes, but there have been two constants: Jeff Hanna and Jimmie Fadden. What two-word phrase describes this "Dirt Band"?

Nitty-Gritty?

|
|
Post by jmdarrall on Oct 11, 2015 20:24:58 GMT -5
Good! That's the right answer (Applause). Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, once featuring Jackson Browne. Interesting little fact there. Kourtney vaults into an early lead with 150, James with 10, Kevin with nothing yet. Next question is a sing-along, so you must indicate singing, or be counted wrong. Switching to pop once again, and ho-boy, I hope you're ready for this one.
Edgar will play the opener of a #1 pop hit from 1996. When he stops, ring in and sing the rest of the line EXACTLY. Edgar, play it...
(Edgar plays this...the audience cracks up slightly as he does)
"Yo! I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want/So tell me what you want, what you really, really want/I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want/So tell me what you want, what you really, really want/I wanna (ha), I wanna (ha), I wanna (ha), I wanna (ha), I wanna..."
