(We have "turned the page" in the thread. Let's wait for Jonathan to ask his last question or pass before recapping.
With my vacation forthcoming, it looks like I can host from the road if necessary. The panels with Greggo are in the daytime -- likely leaving nights free.)

Doug: Passing to Jay. Another recap is in order. Our guest shares his first and last name with a former major leaguer -- who's famous for the wrong reason. The wrong reason is he did something that caused his team to lose a Fall Classic. This major leaguer obviously made it to at least one World Series but never won the World's Championship of MLB. He played in the World Series in the 1990s. He retired before the year 2000. He played on at least one All-Star team. He's not been involved in a scandal. He played for the Angels -- but his time with that particular team did not lead to a Fall Classic. This former major leaguer is not African American. He did not play for the Twins. He didn't play for a New York-based team. Doug: Jay, three questions left. Make 'em good.

Jay I thought you had it...
It was a team that lost a World Series in the 1990s. The Braves lost four, but they did WIN one in 1995. There was no 1994 World Series. The A's lost in 1990 and this player never played for them. The Phillies lost in 1993, so it might be a member of that team.
I am like my first car, a '73 Nova, I keep stalling...
Cleveland lost in 1995 and 1997, the Padres lost in 1998 but this guy never played for San Diego.
So it has to be either a Phillie or an Indian methinks.....a non African-American player...
I'm going to ask, are you the "Wild Thing", Mitch Williams?

Well I was tipped off mainly by the "wrong side of history" clue, coupled with Jay's saying Jim Fregosi. I knew he was in the right church but the wrong pew with that and Finley as guesses, since Finley was the A's owner. But Fregosi triggered something in me, and I couldn't really think of any Cleveland Indians who were on the wrong side of history in either World Series that they appeared in during the 1990s.
Since Jay helped me out and since Jon did not score any checks on this evening's show, and I know I'm out of yes or no questions Doug, but I'm going to ask just one more. I'd like to ask if I could return these 2 checks to these fine gentlemen so they'll have money to go toward their respective and very worthwhile charities?

Doug: Actually, Bill, hang on to all $15,000 from this game because -- all of your charities are about to pick up some more money due to an unusual situation. I'll explain it all in a bit.
Now -- as for our guest Mitch Williams. I've known this man since the early 1990s.
Mr. X: Quite a long time, for sure.
Doug: For more than a quarter century, he worked as a TV sports reporter and anchor -- and on one particular night, tell 'em what you did.
Mr. X: I actually reported on the highlights of Game 6 of the 1993 World Series -- (scattered laughter and applause) -- it's true -- airing that same clip you just did with the "Wild Thing" Mitch Williams serving up that home run pitch to Joe Carter.
(more scattered laughter and applause)
Doug: What are the odds of that happening?
Mr. X: They've got to be astronomical.
Doug: One more piece of business. This Mitch Williams was playing for charity -- much like Larry Byrd. Our guest, nowadays, is a leader within the Fellowship for Christian Athletes.
(audience applauds)
Doug: Yes, great work to applaud. Whatever he won was going to benefit that fine organization. Mitch, ya came *this* close to stumping them and collecting all 15 grand for your group.
Mr. X: Hey, it's all still good. Some of those items will make great silent auction items.
Doug: Indeed. And again, there's more money on the way for each panelist and each guest. I'll explain how -- right after this.

(audience cheers)Doug: We're about to wrap up our all-sports special of The Name's The Same. Our great thanks to Pat Riley and Larry Byrd for joining us -- and a big thanks to Mitch Williams joining us here at the last minute. Now just when you thought our guests were going home with just parting gifts and Jonathan was bringing a goose egg home to his charity, this happened. First, take a look at this photo, please. Doug: This is an image of a member of the Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer. Anyone want to take a wild guess as to who this is? (about a dozen in the crowd say a name that rhymes with "Cycle Differed") Doug: That's right. No money for that -- but you're right. (scattered laughter) Now -- in booking Messrs. Riley and Byrd for this episode, we also booked a namesake for that member of 5SOS. But due to the contestant's disqualification, plans for that game were canceled. Now, there's more to the story. If that game were to happen tonight, we were going to increase the degree of difficulty for that segment. The Mr. X for that game was *really* going to be a Mr. X. He was going to be shrouded in a lot of secrecy, not be on stage for the game and just activate bells and buzzers for "yes" and "no" answers to the panel's questions. Then, at the end of the game, that Mr. X was going to come out of hiding and collect either the three checks or the consolation prizes. Further, not only were we upping the degree of difficulty, we were also going to up the stakes. There were going to be three checks at $10,000 in play instead of $5000. That was a $30,000 game -- that will never happen. So -- the powers that be here at The Name's The Same and ABC decided those 30,000 dollars are going to be evenly split -- by all six of tonight's participants. (audience cheers) Challengers and panelists are splitting $30,000. For our guests -- Pat Riley, Larry Byrd and Mitch Williams -- $5000 each plus the consolation prizes. And in the cases of the state representative and our last minute guest, Mitch, the money and prizes are headed to charity. Doug: Now to our panel. Jonathan, best news for you is $5000 for The Make-a-Wish Foundation. We'll also add duplicate consolation prizes that each of our challengers will keep or give to charity. Jay, you won a game earlier at $15,000 for The Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina. We add your share of the money from the game that never happened for a total of $20,000. And Bill, winner of the lion's share tonight. Two games won plus another $5000 for a total of $35,000 for The American Heart Association. (audience cheers) If you want to share the wealth with others, we'll let you do it after the show. Folks, all of you were wonderful. We'll see you again on The Name's The Same. Until then, make it a great day, keep the faith and treasure your loved ones. (audience cheers) (much updated version of "Shooting Star" by Sidney Torch plays) Glenn: This is Glenn Bowman speaking for "The Name's The Same"... Glenn: ...a Mark Goodson Television Production.
