The man who kept audiences laughing on two great CBS sitcoms from 1972 to 1990, and then gave life to Dr. Arthur Jeffries--alias Professor Proton--on The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, was 94 years old. Not only that, he gave us one of the funniest and most memorable TV series endings ever when Newhart was revealed to be a long dream of Dr. Hartley from The Bob Newhart Show:



In his memoir, you can read how the idea came to his late wife Ginny, who convinced the producers to end it on such a clever note. As someone finishing eighth grade at the time, I remember watching the finale and being confused at first, then amused, by how it ended. Three cheers to you, Bob Newhart, and may you continue to keep generations laughing for years to come.

I learned of Bob Newhart's passing last night.  So many celebrities have passed this month.

I hadn't considered about three years in a row about the passing of beloved Bobs.

Bob Newhart was a very funny man. I never forget the Bob Newhart Show with its theme Home to Emily. Now when I hear Home to Emily it will be in tribute to Bob Newhart.
