Our seventh episode of Three on a Match will begin shortly. pathfinder20 -- Kourtney Wilson is our currently champion -- and we'll pick up with a bonus game we interrupted on the last show. Recall Kourtney bought five boxes and made three in a row in the middle column. After Kourtney's bonus round is complete, we'll seek a new challenger. Meantime, Kourtney, come on up.

WNBC - NEW YORK CITY Staff announcer: Chicago Wednesday starts tomorrow at 8.
(dramatic music plays) Steve Anderson: If you put $20 on the red.......$30 on the green......and $40 on the yellow......you could win $50,000 playing Three on a Match.("Jet Set" plays) Here's your host -- the star of Three on a Match -- Doug Morris!(audience cheers; Doug knocks on wall for good luck a la Bill Cullen) Thank you, Steve. Hellooooooo, everybody, and welcome to Three on a Match. Our current champion was in the middle of a bonus game on the last show. We finished the first phase -- but not the second. Here to complete the second half is Kourtney Wilson. (audience cheers) Kourtney, $55,700 to the good. The bad news is you had to spend all $500 you won in the first half of the endgame -- but those hundreds will become thousands in a bit. Before we take you back to the bonus grid, please remind us what you when you're playing our little game.

I am a shift leader at a national sandwich chain. I like to learn about different things like interior design, different languages (Spanish and Korean). I also like collecting stationery products and cigar boxes. Also want to say hello to my family and friends all across the nation.

With those shout-outs done, let's go for some money and head back to the bonus grid. (audience applause; theme plays)All right, here's the grid as we left it yesterday. These are the numbers you bought with the $500 you won in the main game. Behind the visible numbers are thousands of dollars in cash awards. The grid is hiding up to $30,000 -- and hopefully you picked a number with the thirty grand. All you have to do is choose one of the visible numbers, we'll reveal the prize behind it -- and then you may stop and keep the money -- or try and trade up. You may reveal up to three cash awards. Once the third award is turned over, you're stuck with it. So, good luck -- and pick a number.

Starting with number 9 -- and we find... (ding) (audience cheers) ...well -- $20,000. That's a big one. But you know there's bigger money. Want to stop here and take $20,000 -- or go for more? (audience shouts suggestions)

Twenty grand's yours. (dings; audience cheers)Just for fun, where was the $30,000 -- and did Kourtney buy the number that had the $30K? Looks like -- no -- number 2 -- a number you didn't buy had... ...there it is -- the $30,000. It all worked out in the end, didn't it?

Post by pathfinder20 on Apr 30, 2024 7:31:14 GMT -5
Yes it did. I wasn’t crazy about giving up $20K for a shot at $30K. I wasn’t sure that I had it.

Well, it all worked out. Let's add $20,000 to your prior winning for a total of $75,700 in cash. (audience cheers)And I tell ya what let's do. Let's take an early commercial break. When we come back, we'll welcome a new challenger for you, Kourtney, here on Three on a Match. (audience applause; theme plays)

Okay, now that Kourtney's bonus round's in the books, we now seek a challenger. Player closest to the right answer, high or low, opposes Kourtney. Before the show, one of our models/a production assistant spun an American roulette wheel twice. We took the number from each spin, multiplied the numbers and reached what product? Please make sure your answer is lower than 1297 (even a spin of 00 makes the correct total 0).
Please PM dougmorrisontheair (that's a me) in 24 hours from now.

Okay, let's see the results of the spins. First we get a 3. Then we get a 36. So basically we triple the highest number on the roulette table for... ("Celebrity Sweepstakes" tabulation sfx) ...108. Who came the closest? 128 mringgenberg It's Matt! Three on a Match resumes shortly.

(theme plays)Steve: Our contestants will receive some of the following...
Diet Shasta. If you're tired of the same old diet cola, say, "I wanna pop! Diet Shasta!"
And three boxes of FFV Stoned Wheat Wafers. Crispy crunchy cracker squares. One taste and you'll agree. When you count on good, count on FFV. Steve: We'll be back with more of Three on a Match after this word of interest.
(audience applause; theme plays)We're back and we're about to start a new game of Three on a Match. Let's welcome a new challenger -- Matt Ringgenberg. (audience cheers)Matt, welcome. Please tell us about yourself.

Nice to have you here from Iowa, Matt. Good luck to you both, players. This is how we play Three on a Match. First, let's start by opening up our category board. Romcoms, Fun & Games and The Mystery Category. With each category are five riddlegrams. In each riddlegram, we take a common expression and change the wording. What our players must do is give us the original phrase or title. Some examples from a previous show: "Stroll as if You're a Native of Cairo" is another way of expressing the song title "Walk Like an Egyptian". "Cease at the ten-cent piece" is another way of saying "stop on a dime". Now, each riddlegram is worth one point. Chime in with the right answer and the point's yours. If you miss, the point goes to your opponent. Player with the higher point total in the showdown wins the cash award assigned to the chosen category. And, Kourtney, since you're the champion, please choose our first category.

Fun & Games -- which hides a cash award of... (ding)...$50. That means the winner of the showdown banks $50. Also, each player will bank $10 for every point scored in every showdown. These riddlegrams lead to titles of game shows. 1. "That Cost's Correct"
2. "Those Tinseltown Quadrilaterals"
3. "Quinientas Preguntas"
4. "That 100-Year Period's Clearance Event"
5. "Fido Devour Rover"
Kourtney and Matt, for each riddlegram, please PM me your answer and a buzzcode from 1-100.

1. "That Cost's Correct"(Matt rings in)Doug: Matt? Matt: The Price is Right Doug: That's right. pathfinder20 mringgenberg
Doug: One point for the challenger. Next question.
2. "Those Tinseltown Quadrilaterals"
(Matt rings in)
Doug: Matt again
Matt: Hollywood Squares.
Doug: We will accept that.
pathfinder20 mringgenberg
Doug: The original title is "The Hollywood Squares". However, the reboot hosted by Tom Bergeron was titled simply "Hollywood Squares" without the "The". So based on that, Matt leads two-nil. Next riddlegram.
3. "Quinientas Preguntas"
(time passes) (buzz)
Doug: Ohh having lived in San Antonio, "Quinientas Preguntas" translates from Spanish to English as -- "500 Questions". (scattered groans) Either you're booing our usage of Spanish or the fact they never went through 500 questions in a season. (scattered laughter from crowd) In any event, next riddlegram.
4. "That 100-Year Period's Clearance Event"
(Matt rings in)
Doug: Matt?
Matt: Sale of the Century
Doug: Indeed.
pathfinder20 mringgenberg
Doug: Matt, you've won the showdown -- but this last point's still crucial.
5. "Fido Devour Rover"
(Matt rings in)
Doug: Matt?
Matt: Dog Eat Dog
Doug: That's right.
(audience cheers)
Doug: And this is why we play out showdowns all the way through.
Doug: Matt, first of all, you bank $50 for winning the showdown. We also add in $10 a point.
Doug: That gives you $90 -- *just* enough to go the grid.
Doug: Matt, if you decide to go to the grid, you'll have to hope your picks from each column match each other. If they do, obviously, the first three picks will match -- and that's an instant $50,000 payoff in addition to the game win.
So, want to go for the win or build up your score and play another showdown? Let's bring in another category to help with your decision.
The Four. Mmm'kay. Maybe that's not much help.
What will it be, Matt -- the grid or one of these categories?
[Matt, if going to the grid, please indicate same -- and then buy "(amount) on the (color)".
If you'd rather start another showdown and try to add to your $90, please choose another category.]

Had a hunch you'd go for more money. And... (ding)(scattered cheers) ...woah! Talk about more money. Hundred buckos and three freebies. Winner of this showdown has a crucial decision to make. These riddlegrams lead to titles of romantic comedy movies. 1. "Eight Small Torches and Eight More Small Torches"
2. "During Thy Rest in the Bedroom"
3. "Utter Something..."
4. "Hawaii's Way to Say Hello or Goodbye"
5. "That Future Wife's Paternal Parent" Kourtney and Matt, for each riddlegram, please PM me your answer and a buzzcode from 1-100.

Kourtney: While You Were Sleeping
Doug: Right again.

Doug: One more and you win this showdown.
3. "Utter Something..."

(Matt rings in)
Doug: Matt?
Matt: Say Anything...
Doug: That's it.
pathfinder20 mringgenberg
Doug: Matt prevents the sweep for $50 extra. Can the challenger pull even? Let's find out. 4. "Hawaii's Way to Say Hello or Goodbye"

(Kourtney rings in)
Doug: Kourtney for the win.
Kourtney: Aloha.
Doug: That's it.
pathfinder20 mringgenberg
Doug: Every $10 can make a difference as we saw in the last showdown. So let's play this out.
5. "That Future Wife's Paternal Parent"
45 pathfinder20 -- mringgenberg 35 random.org
(Kourtney rings in)
Doug: Kourtney?
Kourtney: The Father of the Bride.
(Doug checks with judge...)
(fade to Doug at category board)
Doug: Kourtney, even though you've won the showdown, the judge wanted to make absolutely sure the point on the last riddlegram goes to the right party. And unfortunately for you...
(buzz)
Doug: ...the judge and our researchers have verified the correct answer is "Father of the Bride" without the opening "The". Three movies across the decades had that exact title. Had there been a change at some point in time officially to "The Father of the Bride", the last point would be yours.
Doug: The good news is you still bank $100 for winning the showdown. And there's more.
Doug: Ten bucks for every point -- Matt up to $110. Kourtney you're up to $130...
Doug: ...*plus* three free boxes. If you want to go to the grid, you'll have to use the freebies now. If you want to start a new showdown, we say goodbye to the free boxes and hello to a new category.
So what will it be -- the grid or a new showdown?

(scattered cheers) I would think so. So let's put those and the $130 at the base of the grid. (ding)As you know, you've got to drain the money down to less than $20 before you can use the freebies. Can't buy more than three boxes in any column. Good luck, Kourtney, and off you go.
