Greetings, all. At long last, we're starting Episode 48 of The $40,000 Chain Reaction. Due to the long layoff, some notes are in order.
\ First, because it's been awhile since Episode 47, I'm making an executive decision about a waiting period between episodes. If you played in Episode 47 and/or you're a five-time undefeated champion (Marc Enyedy, Frank Sartori), please sit on your hands and let someone else try.
\ For this qualifying round, the closest to the correct answer to the qualifying question will be the designated champion. The next closest will be the designated challenger.
And now, let's play that qualifying question...
Before the show, one of our production assistants played Crossy Road for the iPad for thirty seconds. Our staff member played as the chicken from the original cast. How many points did the staffer score? Hint: The player's score is in two figures; so please ensure your answer is higher than 9 and lower than 100.
...please PM me your answer in 24 hours from now.

(theme plays; audience applause)The game is -- The $40,000 Chain Reaction -- where one word leads to another -- and the right word could lead to a big payoff.(more applause) Helloooooo, everybody. I'm Doug Morris and welcome to The $40,000 Chain Reaction. Last time we were together, we said goodbye to Frank Sartori who put together an undefeated championship and racked up $362,640 in cash and merchandise. (audience cheers) Yes. And we've got two contestants ready to start their own roads to riches. One of them will play for up to $40,000. Please make welcome our designated challenger, Nels Snesrud, and our designated champion, Immanuel Tims. (audience cheers) We should clarify we played a game to determine who, essentially, would make the first move in Round 1 before we went on the air. Nels, as our designated challenger, you'll make that first move. But first, please tell us about yourself.

I'm a high school senior from Los Angeles, and I also love to act whenever I get the chance!
In my spare time, I love writing, watching movies and stand up specials, board games, hanging out with friends, and of course...watching game shows!
In fact, I'm writing 2 scripts right now, one for school and one just for fun, both of which I'm proud of.
Although I have a knack for writing, I hope to one day have my own show on TV, a talk show eventually!

Best of luck in your pursuits, Immanuel, especially with the talk show. Again, players, good luck in the game. Let's start it now by opening up that board. (board opens as part of the theme plays)Before you can compete for up to $40,000, one of you must win this race to $5000. And it all start with this chain. (ding)This chain starts with FAST and it ends with AND THE BEAST, we had to abbreviate and turn to the ampersand for an assist. Five links are in between. Each link may contain more than one word. Each link is worth $250. Completion of the chain is worth an additional $250. And when a new round starts, we up the ante. Nels, as the designated challenger, you may give Immanuel a letter or take the letter for yourself. You may also give or take that letter below FAST or above AND THE BEAST. So how do you start us off?
