Exactly right, the calculations are on screen for viewers at home, and 10 points to Greg.
[Applause]
101 * 8 = 808
808 / 4 = 202
202 * 5 = 1010
1010 - 759 = 251
251 + 428 = 679
GREG PALMER 17-24 IAN LAUDATO
Greg closes the gap at the halfway mark, and it's Ian's pick of the letters.

And here's the clock:

We go to Ian first.
Six.
Any advance on a six Greg?
Just a five.
And let's see what you've put down:
Ian: CANFUL Greg: DANCE
Katherine?
DANCE is absolutely fine Greg, and Ian, we unfortunately can't accept CANFUL as it isn't in the OED.
Bad luck Ian, and Greg, five more points for you. Anything more to add from the corner?
Indeed, you could have UNLACED for 7, and also FELUCCA, which is a small boat propelled by oars, lateen sails or both, used on the Nile.
GREG PALMER 22-24 IAN LAUDATO
And it's Greg's pick of the numbers.

Alright, penultimate numbers are:
100 50 10 8 6 5
And your target is:
912

[No response from Ian so we'll class it as if he has nothing to declare]
Alright Greg, how close to 912?

|
|
Post by palmer7 on May 13, 2015 14:22:08 GMT -5
Well, I came pretty close, Sam. I got to 910.
100 * 8 = 800 6 + 5 = 11 10 * 11 = 110 800 + 110 = 910

And that nets you 7 points and the lead. 912 could be obtained thus:
6 * 5 = 30 50 + 30 + 8 = 88 10 * 100 = 1000 1000 - 88 = 912

And we'll be back with the third "half" in two and two.

Welcome back to Countdown, the third half no less, and it's a five point game with three rounds to go. Round 8 is the final letters game, and it's Ian's selection.

And your countdown begins now:

And let's see what we have:
Ian: TROLLIED
Greg: TOILED
How do they look Katherine?
Just checking now on TROLLIED, and it's in! Derived from an English term for being incredibly drunk. TROLLEYED is the usual spelling but Ian's is fine, and that's the only 8 out there.
[Applause]
GREG PALMER 29-32 IAN LAUDATO
And we're still on track for a Crucial Condundrum right now. Ian, it's your pick for the last numbers game, make it count.
