As promised, 1996 is the Some of the Greats episode. Since Matt won last year's show, he will face the top winners of the 1983-88 and 1989-94 episodes. Here they are...
jmdarrall (won a combined $93,386 in 1983 and 1987)
Jill Manas Fan (won a combined $130,127 from 1992-94)
To prove that 1996 was "the season that changed everything" according to the Wheel of Fortune wiki...
-Every show will now have a theme with the prizes tying into that particular theme.
-$250 is now the minimum value on the wheel. You no longer have to "work for vowels".
-The same wheel template is now used for the entire game.
-Bonus categories and puzzle questions are now worth $2,000.
-The minimum for solving a puzzle is now $500.
-Double Play is retired.
-The $10,000 Wedge is moved to Round 2. It is removed from the wheel if unclaimed by the end of its featured round.
-Round 3 is now the Jackpot Round.
-The Round 4 Prize is retired, though if Surprise is claimed before Round 3, there will be a Round 3 Wheel Prize.
Plus, this episode will use the Friday Finals format. On this episode only:
-The Jackpot will start at $10,000. Every other episode will have it start at $5,000.
-An extra prize is awarded for solving the Bonus Round puzzle.
I'll ask the three of you to check your PM's. The number drawing priority for this episode is decided by amount won: Michael draws first, followed by Jon and then Matt. We'll begin once the 1995 episode is over.

Hi, everybody! It's a brand new year on Wheel of Fortune! Of course, you get to spend it at the puzzle board...

Ooh! Is that a new wheel? It sure is, just like everything else here in 1996. A few things about this particular year. First, this is going to be the first of many themed episodes. In this case, the theme is European Getaway where our contestants have many chances to win fabulous trips anywhere in Europe. Second, this is a Friday Finals episode where we have a few surprises I'm sure you're going to enjoy. Third, for this episode, we've brought back a few contestants who did very well the last few times they played. We're going to start in the red with jmdarrall. Now, Jon, are you excited about the changes we have planned for this episode?

I am! I especially love the theme. I've only been to Europe once, so maybe I can add a vacation to that continent...you know, to rest up after my African Safari and to figure out what to do with my annuity.

I'm glad for that. It's also great to catch up with what you've done with the prizes you just won. With a little luck, we may send you on another dream vacation. Now, Michael, you won the cash, the his and hers cars and you also have an annuity from last time. How have all those prizes been treating you?

I do. At least you have that car for the right girl whoever she may be. Speaking of cars, we've given away a lot on this show. Case in point, Matt over on the end won $62,495 yesterday, including a brand new Cadillac. How different do you think it will be playing against two great players?
