Let's begin. All deadlines are 48 hours, as usual, and away we go. (1987 High Rollers intro theme) Rich: And now, a game of high stakes, where every decision is a gamble. And every move could be your last. High Rollers! And here's the man with all the action, Mark Liotta! (I come out to a tremendous applause from the audience) Me: Thank you! Thank you, audience. Thank you, Rich. (Theme ends) Welcome again to High Rollers, everyone. This is the show where some lucky rolls of the dice can win you thousands of dollars worth of cash and prizes. One of our players has won plenty of that so far, but can he keep the lucky streak going? We'll find out as we progress through today's show. Let's go to the dice table and meet our players. Rich, who are today's contestants? Rich: Player number one is our returning champion James Greek. In three days, James has won $80,889 in cash and prizes! Challenging James today is a courtesy clerk from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Matt Riggenberg! Me: For those of you watching at home, if these two faces look familiar to you, it's because they've faced each other a couple of times on our program already and both of them are very good players. So we should be in for quite a match today. Matt, James, good luck to both of you. Let's go to work in the first game of our two out of three match as Rich Fields tells us about three nice prizes that you could be taking home with you. Rich: In column number one, a pair of diamond earrings. From Superjeweler, it's lovely 14 karat white gold stud earrings with a single karat of round diamonds. This prize is worth $2,000. In column number two, a trip to Miami. You and a guest will fly round trip coach from Los Angeles to Miami, Florida for a six night stay in an oceanfront king room at the Beacon Hotel South Beach. Daily breakfast included. This prize is worth $5,474. And in column number three, a new television. The 60 inch LED Smart 3D HDTV with smart remote, web browser and four pairs of glasses. This prize is worth $3,400. That makes the whole board in this first game worth a total of $10,874. Me: Well, definitely a cheaper board than what we had yesterday, but those are some pretty good prizes nonetheless. Let's load up the board and see where the numbers line up.
9 4 3 6 5 7 1 2 8
And the hot column this time is column two. Knock out that column with a roll of eleven and you could be on your way to Miami. As always, the first to win two games goes on to the Big Numbers to play for $25,000. But you can't get control of the dice unless you win a toss up question, and here comes the first one right now. In what year was the first officially sanctioned newspaper published?

No, it was published in 1666. You were in the right century, though, James. But it's Matt who gets control first. Matt, pick up those dice and give them a good roll.

(doubles sfx) Our first roll of the day and it's a double! Here's an insurance marker for you, Matt. (I hand Matt a marker) Now how do you want to get rid of the 12?

Taking out four numbers at once. That results in column two being cleared out and you have yourself a prize, Matt.
9 X 3 6 X 7 X X 8
That trip to Miami goes on your side of the board, Matt. You know, of course, that you have to win this round in order to keep it. All right, this next question follows up on the one I asked about the first official newspaper. Now, we know that the first officially sanctioned paper came out in 1666. What was the name of that particular newspaper?

The London Gazzette?

That's the one. Now James, I will inform you that the bad rolls are 4,5 and 10. As well, Matt has an insurance marker on him. Based on this information, do you wish to roll the dice yourself or make Matt roll them?

Let's get that seven off the board.
9 X 3 6 X X X X 8
Four numbers are left, and here comes another question for the two of you. What TV series ran on The WB from 1997-1999 that featured a young Tahj Mowry as a whiz kid?

That's the series we're talking about. Great series too, shame it's not on DVD though. All right James, 7 is now a bad roll in addition to 4,5 and 10. Same options apply to you. Roll or pass?

That six comes off the board.
9 X 3 X X X X X 8
Only three numbers remain as we go to our next question. In what year was the state of Texas admitted to the union?
