Lenny Jackson is our new champion with $27,387 in cash and prizes. However, he will not return until episode 16 because this episode is a special 40th anniversary edition of the series. Only net game hosts are eligible for this one as it is a charity game and I need three hosts, so sign up if interested.

If I don't get two more hosts by the end of the day, this will become a regular game with Lenny defending his championship. I would need only one more player if I have to go this route, however, as Doug Morris has signed up and I wish to honor that

Well, I think we'll just go ahead and begin anyway. All deadlines are 48 hours and away we go. (Fade in on the set) George: Ladies and gentlemen, here are your host and hostess for $ale of the Century: Mark Liotta and Vanna White. (Vanna and I come out to a virtual applause) Me: Thank you, George Gray. And hello, everybody. The reason we're coming out here like this today with no opening is because this is a special episode of $ale lined up. Vanna: That's right. As we mentioned at the end of yesterday's show, this is our special show to commemorate 40 years of the $ale franchise. Me: When the show first started back in 1980 in the land down under, Tony Barber was the original host. He was the emcee for the Aussie version until 1991 and then Glenn Ridge took over and hosted until their version ended in 2001. Of course here in America, Jim Perry hosted from 1983 until 1989 and did a very nice job. Jim is unfortunately no longer with us, but I know he's smiling down on us from above and very proud of the show's legacy. So with all of that historical information out of the way, we would now like to introduce to you who's going to be playing our special game with us today. Vanna: He's hosted many shows over the years, including Card Sharks and Tic Tac Dough, please welcome Tony Lane. (virtual audience applauds as camera shows Tony at his podium) Next, he's the host of On A Roll and just recently became the host of Spin Off, mister Doug Morris! (Camera shows Doug at his podium) Finally, he's the host of another popular game show. From The Big Showdown, welcome John Bergman! (Camera shows John at his podium) And there are our three contestants. Me: Thank you very much, Vanna. What do you say we go ahead and begin? Vanna: That sounds like a very good idea. (Vanna and I head to our spots) Me: Just like in regular play, our hosts each get spotted $20 to begin the game.
Tony: $20 Doug: $20 John: $20
Of course, whatever prizes our hosts win today, their selected charities will receive the cash equivalent of the prize values. Tony, Doug and John, I wish you all the very best of luck and away we go.

(Instant Bargain sfx) All right, it's Instant Bargain time. The first one of the day, and I'd like for both John and Tony to give their full undivided attention as Vanna tells you about the prize. Vanna: One of you could take home an oriental rug. From Armetas, this bright orange oriental area rug is crafted in Turkey from 100% polyester, which is naturally designed to stand up to dirt and debris in the entryway or the occasional spill under the kitchen table. This prize is worth $1,648 but on $ale of the Century, it can be yours for $5. Me: Tony and John, would either of you have use for such an elegant rug like that in your homes?

Looks like Tony has bought it. Now in a double $ale scenario, whoever buzzes in first among the tied players gets the prize and that was exactly what Tony just did. We'll take $5 off and a check for at least $1648 will be made out to Tony's charity. As for what the charity is, we'll find that out a little later. Right now, let's continue the game with these questions.
1) What was eBay.com originally called? 2) What did the first vending machine dispense? 3) Which country is known by its inhabitants as Suomi? 4) At 3,810 meters, which Central American country's highest elevation point is Cerro Chirripo? 5) Where is Whistler Ski Resort located?

Tony: $35 Doug: $15 John: $10
(Fame Game sfx) All right contestants, we have reached our first Fame Game of the day. We have a $10 money card up there to start things off, and we need a famous Thing. I am a letter of the alphabet and a very common one at that. I was the first letter that Vanna White ever turned on the puzzle board when she became hostess of Wheel Of Fortune in the early eighties. In proper order, I am letter number 20 and I am also the second most common letter in English language text. In the orthographies of other languages, I am often used for the voiceless dental plosive or other similar sounds. What am I?

(Buzzcode: 7; Doug rings in) Doug: The letter T Me: That's the letter we needed. (Camera cuts to Vanna, who gives a perplexed look. Camera then cuts back to me) You folks notice that just now? She was trying to keep a straight face throughout that thing because of the fact that she was mentioned as part of those clues. All right Doug, the Fame Game board is all cash today. Of course, the $10 money card and those other special squares that we usually have are up there too. Which number would you like?

Both excellent charities. I'm on the autism spectrum myself so you're definitely not alone. On that note, we'll get round two started with these questions.
1) Mitsubishi, Sony and Toyota are all companies with roots in what country? 2) Which cheese has blue mold in it? 3) From which country was Evita Peron? 4) What is the name of the rooster on boxes of Kellogg's "Corn Flakes"? 5) How many plates comprise the surface of the Earth?

(Instant Bargain sfx) Instant Bargain time once again. Tony, this one's for you alone and Vanna's going to tell you about the prize. Vanna: Tony, you could take home a set of NFL jerseys. This collection features 32 jerseys, one from each team, and are all autographed by each team's quarterback. The perfect set of memorabilia for any sports fan. This prize is worth $5,832 but here on $ale, it can be yours for only $7. Me: Tony, I'm not sure if you're a football fan or not, but I know those jerseys would look pretty good in your closet. Wouldn't you think so?

I guess that answers my question. Tony, the jerseys are yours and your charity will also receive another $5,832 in cash. ($ale Surprise sfx) Oh, but that's not all they'll get. That instant bargain had a $ale Surprise attached to it, so Vanna, open up that envelope and tell us how much more Tony's charity will be getting. (Vanna opens the envelope) Vanna: I'm happy to say that Tony's charity will receive another $3,000 in cash! Me: Now that is definitely nothing to sneeze at! I should point out that each of the charities our contestants are playing for will receive a minimum of $10,000 and right now, the National Diabetes Foundation has exceeded that minimum with a total of $10,480 so far. Of course, they could still get more, but right now, we continue with these questions.
1) Which Miami Heat guard was named 2006 "Sports Illustrated" Sportsman of the Year? 2) Minsk became the capital of what independent nation in 1991? 3) What fast food restaurant sells the Whopper? 4) What is the second largest French-speaking city in the world? 5) Which country did cheesecake originate in?
