(Theme Starts)
Announcer: Gayla Peevey sang a song about wanting what animal for Christmas? The correct answer could pave the way for one of these contestants to drive home in this new Maserati worth over $100,000 (audience cheers) or one of these other luxury cars tonight on Top Card Deluxe! (Audience applauses) Here is the host of this prime time edition of Top Card, Joe Emerson! (whistling going on since I'm wearing a tuxedo)
Me: Good evening everybody! Welcome to Top Card Deluxe! Boy, do we have a show for you tonight. (Applause dies down) Top Card Deluxe plays just like the daytime version. However, the stakes are higher and the prizes are bigger! Here to deal out the cards, the beautiful Leslie Banks! (applause; whistling going on since she's wearing an evening gown.) Good evening Leslie. It looks like we're going to the prom together!
Leslie: Well, where's my corsage? (Audience laughter)
Me: Where's my boutineer? (Audience chuckles)
Leslie: Touche. Well, tonight is going to be filled with excitement and fun. I don't know about you, but I can't wait!
Me: I'm sure these contestants can't wait either. Leslie, who will be playing with us tonight?
Leslie: Our first contestant is a courtesy clerk from Council Bluffs, IA. Meet Matt Ringgenberg. (applause)
Me: Good evening, Matt. Welcome to the show. What does a courtesy clerk do?

Me: Well, we stocked tonight's show with among other things a few nice trips, lots of cash, and 5 lovely luxury automobiles. Perhaps you will take some of that home tonight. (applause)
Leslie: Our next contestant is a radio show host, TV newscast producer and part-time web designer. From Hattiesburg, Mississippi, welcome Doug Morris. (applause)
Me: Welcome, Doug. What type of radio show or shows have you hosted?

Hi, Joseph, for nearly 19 years, I've hosted a classic rock by request show back in Hattiesburg. Along the way, we do music news and notes.

Me: Well, we often have music categories here on this show. Perhaps there will be one tonight. (applause) Finally, who is our last contestant, Leslie?
Leslie: Last, but certainly not least, we have a Philly sports fan who loves watching game shows such as Top Card. (Audience hollers at the shameless plug) From Marlton, NJ, meet Michael Clifford.
(applause)
Me: Good evening to you, Michael. Which Philly sport team is your favorite, if any?

My favorite Philly sports team is the Eagles, by far. The Flyers are a close second though.

It's great to cheer on the teams near to you. It also looks like several people are cheering you on tonight. (Cheers from Michael's fans) Good luck to all three of you. Gentlemen, the aim is to get as close to 21 as possible without busting. You build your hand by answering questions correctly and deciding to keep the card on the board or taking the top card. The winner of this round earns $5000 and advances to the championship round. Get a 21 on the nose, and the bonus augments to $10,000! (cheers and applause) Remember, that aces can count as 1 or 11. As there are no returning champions on Top Card Deluxe, we will begin with a toss up. Hands on plungers, please. Gayla Peevey sang a song about wanting what animal for Christmas? (BC: 92) Michael: 37 (DING!)
Doug: 13
Matt: PassMe: Michael, to answer. Michael: a hippopotamus Me: Yes, that's right! (applause) You have the honor of cutting Leslie's deck by picking a number from 1-52. You also get the right to start things off with one of these categories:

This one is a multiple choice: Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, or The Beverly Hillbillies; which show was broadcast from 1964-1967? (BC: 16 Michael: 87 Doug: 64 (DING!) Matt: 87Me: Doug, to answer. Doug: Gilligan's Island (applause) Me: Excellent choice; that is correct. Let's see what your first card is. It's a 2. Do you want to keep it or exchange it for the top card? (Audience yells advice)

Me: Leslie, what do you have for Mr. Morris? Leslie: How about a king from Mrs. Banks? (audience applauses and whistles) Me: That takes you to 10. Me: Let's see how much you remember your 80s movies: what is the robot's name in the movies "Short Circuit" 1 and 2? (BC: 49) Michael: 7 Doug: 55 DING! Matt: 92 Me: Doug, again. Doug: Johnny Five. Me: Two in a row!! (applause). If that category has an ace, then you will win TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! (NBC ooohh effect) Let's see what that card is.... What would you like to do? Take it or the top card? (Audience shouts out ideas)

(applause) Me: You are now frozen at 19. Should your opponents bust, you will win $5000. IF either get 20 or 21, then they win. Michael, since you won the toss-up this round, you get to select the next category.

Let's see how much history we can recall: what dictator did the CIA fail in an attempt to overthrow in 1961, now called the Bay of Pigs Invasion? (BC: 4) Michael: 87 (DING!) Doug: FREEZE Matt: Pass
Me: Michael? Michael: Fidel Castro. (applause) Me: Yes, that's the one. With the top row complete, you will consider whether to keep ... A seven. Think it over, then tell me whether you want to keep it or exchange it with the top card. (Audience yells out their opinions.)

Me: Leslie, it's time again to show us the top card. Leslie: What are the odds...? (a few chuckles and titters) Me: Michael turned down the 7 of diamonds and got the 7 of diamonds. Was it meant to be? In any event, you have 7. Go ahead and select the next category.

Me: Due to the extreme nature of this question, viewer discretion is advised. (chuckles from audience, I give a disgruntled look to the writers) Really?? Ahem. As for the question: a hemophobe has the fear of what? (BC: 29) Michael: 22 (DING!) Doug: Freeze Matt: Pass Me: Michael? Michael: Blood. (applause) Me: Yes, that's correct. At least none of you are arithmophobic, unless it takes you over 21. As for the card.... it's a six. The ball's in your court, Michael. Keep it or exchange it for the top card? (Audience offers advice)

Me: What do you have for Michael this time? Leslie: Not a good time for this card... (Audience cringes) Me: You now have 17. Remember, you cannot freeze, as Doug has 19. You will need a 3 or 4 to win. Select the next category, if you would please.

(Cold Open) Me: Welcome back to the night time Top Card; Top Card Deluxe. Just before the break, Michael chose music. Let's see how much you know about your instruments. Xylophone, Marimba, or Hurdy-Gurdy; which instrument is not in the percussion family? (BC: 31) Michael: 83 (DING!) Doug: Freeze Matt: 91 Me: Michael, again. Michael: hurdy gurdy Me: Yes, that's right. (applause) Here's the situation. You need a 3 or 4 to win the round. A 5 or above on the board will force you to take the top card. (Audience expresses nervousness and shock) Me: It is an 8; therefore you must take the top card. Leslie, do you have a 3 or 4? Leslie: (slowly reveals card) Michael, you got.... a THREE!! (Sustained bell dings, theme plays, I walk over to the contestants' podiums) Me: Michael, it looks like your winning streak from Battlestars is carrying over to Top Card; you'll be going to the championship round with $5000! We'll see you later in the show. Me: Doug, what can I say? He eked out a victory at the last, but you'll be here for round 2. Matt, you aren't down and out yet! You can still make it happen. Don't go away as these two compete for the right to challenge Michael in the Championship Round. Stick around.

(Cold Open) Me: Welcome back to round two. It's Doug versus Matt. One of these contestants will compete with Michael to go to the bonus round and play for one of these 5 luxury cars! (Leslie poses in front of the cars) Audience Ooooos. Before we get there, we need to start this round. Hands on plungers with this toss-up. 7, 9, or 11; A heptagon has how many sides? (BC:93) Doug: 77 ( DING!) Matt: 74 Me: Doug to answer. Doug: 7 sides. ( Applause) Me: That is correct. Doug, you win the right to choose from one of these categories. Good luck to the both of you.

(Looks down at his podium...realizes there are only 8 question cards instead of 9.)
Me: ...and I am missing a card.
Producer: (off stage) What?
Me: Come here; I'm missing a card! (Gestures at the blank space.)
(Audience LOLs as director screams "Cut!")
Me: This would never happen to any other game show host. (Producer looks frantically for the missing question.)
Producer: Looks like we'll have to invalidate that question. We do have another question about singers we'll use instead. Sorry about that. (walks off stage)
Me: You had one job, Gary! (Audience LOLs)
Director: We'll start again from you introducing the categories.
Me: Okay (takes a sip of water)
Doug and Matt, please check your inboxes for that "make-up" question.

Hopefully, this card won't be like a candle in the wind... It's a jack! ( Audience Cheers) I have to ask but, are you keeping it or exchanging it for the top card? (Audience yells out a certain suggestion)
