Very nice! (Applause. End of round cue) Wow! Michael, you're in the lead with $4,900. Marc has $2,700. Clement, you have $200, but the game is far from over. In the next round, we're going to double the stakes and double the challenge. We'll take a quick break, so stay with us!

Don Morrow: And now, back to "The Challengers," with Jonathan Darrall!
Me: Thanks, Don! Gentlemen, let's play Round Two. Dollar values are now doubled, so challengers, you can get back into the game, but Michael could very well expand his lead. Let's look at the subjects for Round Two (subject reveal cue plays).

All right (CLANGA-CLANGA-CLANGA!). Choose from one of these (BONG-BONG-BONG!).

Here are your choices.
MARC ($2,700): STATE BIRDS for $1,000 CLEMENT ($200): STATE FLOWERS for $600 MICHAEL ($4,900): STATE BIRDS for $1,000
Clement is the holdout and he will go first. Clement, here's your question.
Citizens of Alaska can "remember" that the dark blue color of its flag matches the dark blue color of its state flower. Name the flower.

The only dark blue flower I can think of is... periwinkle.

Sorry, that's not what I have. (Awww) The clue word was remember, so that should have led you to the FORGET-ME-NOT. You're at -$400, but there is still time. Marc and Michael, step up to the $1,000 challenge on STATE BIRDS.
This bird is the most common state bird in the U.S., with seven states. The states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia all chose this bird as its state bird. Which bird is it?

Let's see what you've chosen.
MARC ($3,700): UTILITIES for $1,000 CLEMENT (-$400): UTILITIES for $1,000 MICHAEL ($4,900): PROPERTIES for $800
Michael was the holdout, and he will go first. Listen carefully.
If you want to purchase and fully develop Park Place and Boardwalk with hotels, you would need to spend how much money?

$2,750???

|
Post by jmdarrall on Dec 19, 2014 14:06:20 GMT -5
Almost had you, but you're right! (Michael pumps his fist) Here's the explanation: $350 to buy Park Place, $400 to buy Boardwalk, that's $750. To buy a hotel, you must first buy 4 houses at $200 each. Then, buy the hotel at an extra $200. Of course, you do that for both properties. So, $750 + 2($1,000) = $2,750. You had to work for that $800, sir. You're at $5,700. Marc and Clement, step up to the $1,000 challenge on UTILITIES.
You're playing Monopoly with two other people and you own both utilities. Opponent 1 rolls a 10 without rolling doubles, and moves to Electric Company. He pays you your rent and passes the dice to Opponent 2. Opponent 2 rolls a 9 and lands on Water Works. He pays the rent to you and gives you the dice. In those two turns, how much money did you make?

If you own both, you win 10 times the roll of the dice, so it's (10+9)x10 which makes $190.

He got it, and he showed his work! (Applause from the crowd) Took the words right out of my mouth, Clement. With that, you're back on the plus side with $600, and the choice of subjects. Clement, what's your pleasure?

(CLANGA-CLANGA-CLANGA!) OK, all these topics revolve around the word "under." Choose from these. (BONG-BONG-BONG!)
UNDERGROUND for $600 UNDERWEAR for $800 UNDERTAKER for $1,000

Everyone is in. Let's see.
MARC ($3,700): UNDERWEAR for $800 CLEMENT ($600): UNDERWEAR for $800 MICHAEL ($5,700): UNDERWEAR for $800
(WHOOP-WHOOP-WHOOP! Applause) We did it again! Let's double the values.
UNDERGROUND for $1,200 UNDERWEAR for $1,600 UNDERTAKER for $2,000
Everyone, step up to the $1,600 challenge.
Many fashion magazines have called this brand "the world's ugliest underwear," but many celebrities swear by this figure-flattering line of undies. Name this brand that made Sara Blakely a billionaire.

Here's the question.
In the 1960s, this avant-garde rocker led the Velvet Underground. In 1973, he encouraged listeners to "Walk on the Wild Side." Name this rock legend who passed away in 2013.

$2,000 riding on this question.
Since 1990, Mark Calloway, wrestling as The Undertaker in WWE, was known for 2 things: his firghtening in-ring presence and his Wrestlemania winning streak, which was finally broken in 2014. The Undertaker's opponent in that match was the only man to hold the World Heavyweight Championships in both the WWE and the UFC. Name him.
