Greetings, all,
As of this writing, I know we're in the midst of a federal holiday weekend here in the U.S. For me, this is the best time to start a new episode of Lucky Numbers.
We can get in at least the set of main games before business will command my attention in mid-June. The main event bonus round will either have to be played at a snail's pace or wait until after a business trip later next month.
Now to the fun. Bryan Law returns with one win and $8300 in winnings. As we welcome him to this thread, who wants to challenge?

(audience cheers) Thank you, Bill Kennedy. Hellooooo, everybody -- and welcome to Lucky Numbers. Time once again for fast-paced fun filled with cash payoffs, fantastic prizes, screams of joy -- and probably some moans and groans as well. Our contestants are ready to play. A warm welcome to Bryan and Anthony. (audience cheers)Bryan Law returns to our dice table by way of North Mississippi. He was challenged several times in our last match -- but he answered the bell every time and managed to win $8300 in cash and merchandise. And for those at the Nissan corporation watching, address your letters to Bryan, not to us. (scattered laughter from the crowd) Well, maybe you can *win* a car today. Of course, our challenger will have something to say about that.
Anthony, as we welcome you, please tell us something about yourself.

Well, I'm Anthony Long from Chesnee, South Carolina. However, Chesnee isn't my first hometown. I used to live in Spartanburg, South Carolina for almost 16 years.

Nice to have you here from Chesnee. Bryan, Anthony, best of luck to you both -- because you will need it. Take a look at the game board, please. Those are the lucky numbers in play for every game in our match -- 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. Attached to five of those numbers are cash awards. Anytime your dice roll totals one of those lucky numbers, you seize control of that cash award. However, the remaining number is the luckiest number of all. It's our winning point. And the winning point in the first game we're about to play is... (drum beats; cha-ching)...5. Roll a 5 in any combination and you'll win the cash you've seized *plus* the money in the pot. At the start of every game, we seed the pot with $1500 -- just as we have right now -- and it could go up by as much as $500 on a particular roll. More on that later. Now there's a reason 7 is not among this show's lucky numbers. In any game, any roll of 7 means this. (danger zone cue; lights briefly flicker in certain parts of studio)There's the signal we're entering the danger zone. The complexion of the game will change from there. More about *that* later. Now -- to get control of the dice, you must correctly answer a toss-up question. If you anticipate and you're wrong, the roll automatically goes to your opponent. So -- Bryan, Anthony, hands on the buzzers, please -- because here comes your first question of the match. Yanni or Laurel. (scattered laughter from the crowd) There's more to the question. Let's take it from the top. Yanni or Laurel. Name the Greek musician who was romantically linked to Linda Evans from the original "Dynasty" series. 74 Bryan 01 geniusinmath 13 random.org (Anthony buzzes in) Anthony?

Yanni is right. (audience applause) Anthony, first roll of the game's yours. It could be the last. Roll a 5 for 1500 quick and easy dollars. (Anthony rolls)Close. A 6. That means you have control of... (ding)...$300. Cash awards controlled by Anthony will light up blue. Bryan, the numbers you control will be indicated by the amounts in red. So with that, on to a question about a famous beverage. Atlanta, Birmingham or Miami. I actually know this because I been to this city and my aunt was raised there. Atlanta.

That's it. The ATL. (audience applause) Lucky draw on the question, Anthony. Now let's see if you can get a lucky roll of the dice. (Anthony rolls) (chimes; audience cheers) An eleven! That's more than a lucky roll. That's one of our wild rolls. Players, combinations of 2, 3, 11 and 12 are tough to roll. So we make those wild rolls. Anytime we get a wild roll... (drum beats; cha-ching)...we add $500 to the pot -- as we just now did. Anthony, you're also entitled to an extra roll of the dice. So, let's see if you get a 5 this time. (Anthony rolls) (danger zone cue; lights briefly flicker in certain parts of studio)Oh -- from ecstasy to agony. We're quickly in the danger zone, players. The next player to roll a 7 will cost you the game -- meaning your opponent will win at least the pot, the game and any seized cash awards by default. So if you win this question and have a bad feeling about the roll, you may pass the dice to your opponent. First, let's see who wins this question. Bap, bip or bop. A bip?

|
Post by dougmorrisontheair on May 29, 2018 6:14:39 GMT -5
No -- it's a bap. So that means the crucial choice is Anthony's to make. Anthony, you may roll the dice or pass them to Bryan. Any roll of 5 wins; any roll of 7 loses. What do you want to do? (audience shouts suggestions)

I was about to say -- Bryan, we've seen this movie many times before. Let's see if you can stay in business after this roll. (Bryan rolls)(scattered cheers) You can with Ada from Decatur. That gives you the 8 -- worth... (ding)...300 clams. Now let's see what you know about TV. "The Morning After", "Dog Day Afternoon" or "Evening Shade". Which of these was the title of a sitcom that starred Burt Reynolds, Marilu Henner and Hal Holbrook? 66 Bryan 19 geniusinmath 82 random.org (Bryan buzzes in) Bryan?

And what a great show that was. You're right. (audience applause) Crucial decision's yours, Bryan. Are you rolling -- or passing? (audience shouts suggestions) Five still wins. Seven brings disaster.

(audience cheers) Man likes to roll those bones. Let's see if the roll is to his liking. (Bryan rolls) (ASB win cue plays; audience applause)I'd say so! There's a winner! Congratulations, Bryan, on winning $2000 from the pot -- plus another $300 from the 6 you rolled earlier. Bryan geniusinmath
You're on the board with $2300. Anthony, fret not. There's plenty of time for a comeback. We've just cleared the board. We're out of the danger zone. So let's see what our next winning point is. (drum beats; cha-ching)It's a 4. A roll of 4 in any combination puts at least $1500 in your bank. Here's your next question for an automatic roll. Actress Drew Barrymore told an interviewer she had a crush on a TV news anchor when she was three years old. I'll take that as a "Rivera" -- as in Geraldo Rivera. Drew Barrymore actually had a crush on Ted Koppel. (scattered woahs) Surprises me, too. I guess she preferred "Nightline" over "Romper Room". (scattered laughter from the crowd) In any event, Bryan, you get to roll. (Bryan rolls) Two fours -- when he needed just a total of 4 for the win. The 8 gets you... (ding) ...$300 -- and with that, we'll take this break and find out who wins this game of Lucky Numbers. Stay with us. (commercial cue plays; audience applauds)

(HR87 theme plays) A source for many of the questions we use on Lucky Numbers is the 22-volume World Book Encyclopedia -- which includes the research guide and the index volume. Today's players each receive a great welcoming gift. Bill Kennedy, please tell us about it. Bill: The welcome gift comes from Cazal, makers of the high-tech 979 sunglasses. (commercial cue plays; audience applauds)Welcome back to Lucky Numbers. We're in the second game of our match. Let's look at the score. Bryan, our current champion, has banked $2300 in this match. Anthony's yet to score We *just* began the second game of the match before we went to break. The winning point for this game is a 4. Bryan has control of the 8 at the moment -- and the $300 award that goes with it. Let's see if Bryan can pad the lead or if Anthony can get on the board -- with this question. Next question's a little long -- so play carefully. He had a hit in the late 1970s with the song "Thunder Island" -- and has composed the soundtracks to TV shows in recent years. His last name is Ferguson. Is his first name Jack, Jay or Joe? 27 Bryan 24 geniusinmath 22 random.org (Anthony buzzes in) Anthony?

No -- it's actually Jay Ferguson who had that great hit song back in the day -- and composing TV music. Bryan, you get to roll 'em. (Bryan rolls) (chimes; audience cheers) Yo-leven! There's a wild roll. (drum beats; cha-ching)Brings the pot up to $2000. You could win another $2300 in total, Bryan, with this extra roll. Please go ahead. (Bryan rolls)Close but no win -- a 5. That give you... (ding)...$375. Let's move on -- to a much shorter question. Yes or no: Can honey spoil? 04 Bryan 28 geniusinmath 25 random.org (Anthony buzzes in) Anthony?

Honey cannot spoil. You're right, Anthony. (audience applause) Still looking for a 4 in this game. (Anthony rolls)And he got it! (ASB win cue plays; audience applause) Anthony, congratulations. $2000 go from the pot to your bank. With that, we have a near-tie score. Only $300 separate the players as we set up a new game. Board's all clear. So let's see what our next winning point is. (drum beats; cha-ching)It's a 6. We've been on the left side of the numbers so far. Six in any combination puts at least $1500 in your bank and gives you the lead for sure. Next question coming. Blink 182 or Turk 182.
