televisiontunes.com/Headline_ChasersSCOTT SHANNON: From the Art James Studio at MetroMedia Studios, New York... It's the return of the first television card game that everyone can play... AUDIENCE: "PAY CARDS!" (applause) SCOTT SHANNON: And here he is now to make sure everybody gets a fair deal... Here is Bill McDee! (applause) That's me! I thank you Ladies and Gentlemen, and I thank you Scott Shannon, and to our viewers at home and abroad, I am delighted to welcome you to another edition of "PAY CARDS!" As you can perhaps tell, we have tweaked our set a bit, and we've also tweaked our game some too in an effort to try to give away more cash to our contestants, including a brand new mini bonus game which we will see a little bit later on in the program. Also, we are, starting today, a trial where the contest will be a best two out of three game match. I do hope you will enjoy this new format, but it is still based on the same strategy and premise, trying to create a higher poker hand for yourself than your opponent does. We have an exceptionally fine champion here who in just two days has won sixty-one thousand eight-hundred dollars in cash...welcome back Jonathan Laster! (Cheers & applause) And challenging Jonathan here today, please extend a warm Pay Cards! welcome to Frank Sartori! (applause) Frank I hope I got that right, yes? Frank, my spies tell me you are a student, studying education?

Fantastic! I know as a youth when the original "Pay Cards!" series was on television it helped me to learn a lot about numbers!
Hopefully you'll score a lot of big numbers today in the way of cash here on our game Frank. Very nice to have you here with us.
And it is equally nice to have you back as well Jonathan, or as I call you "The Comeback Kid".
I'm curious to see how this new best two out of three game format pans out with you as such a superb Pay Cards! player!
You came EVER so close yesterday to winning an additional $10,000 during the Royal Flush round. We've amended that game slightly as well, and you'll see how that works out later on.
Jonathan, are you ready to try to win your third try at the championship here today?

(chuckling) Silly question on my part, I know! Let's get to it then! Let's light up the board... (bling) As always, 16 numbered cards on the game board. Here is our new payout scale... $100 for one pair, $200 for two pair, $250 for 3 of a kind, $500 for a Full House which is 3 of a kind plus a pair, $750 for Four of a Kind now, the best possible hand. There are no straights and no flushes during the front game. Something new too, the player with the high hand will also win any money in our growing pot. It always starts at $125 but could grow as high as $1,250. Attached to 8 of the remaining 13 cards are various dollar amounts. Any time a player selects a number with a Pay Card attached to it, that money will immediately be added to that growing pot. One card has a 2 times attached to it, so if that is discovered, the pot will be doubled immediately. The player with the high hand will win all the money in the pot plus the value of his hand, the runner-up will just receive the value of his hand. Two games wins the match and the winner moves on as always to play the Royal Flush round for a chance at up to $50,000 in cash and the right to play the Pay Cards! Extra for a new automobile too! (Cheers and applause) We have one other new feature which the winner of this first game will get to play. Right now though, I want to remind you both that up on the board there are two sets of four of a kind, one set of three of a kind, two sets of pairs, and one single card which will do neither of you any good I'm afraid. We start our round by revealing 3 cards... Number 1 is the Queen of Clubs... Number 4 is the 6 of Clubs, and... Number 7 is the 2 of Clubs. As before, the champion gets to go first in game 1, that is you Jonathan. I'll ask you to select 2 more cards at this time, we'll see if there's any cash to be added to the pot, then reveal the card. After a total of five cards are turned face up, I will ask you to select any two of those five cards to begin building your hand. Alrighty Jonathan, please call out two more numbers, and good luck to both our players today!

Let's see under the 8... No money card, just the Jack of Hearts, and with 14? The King of Diamonds. No money added to the pot this time. Jonathan, which 2 cards do you wish to take to add to your pair of deuces?

(applause) And the audience seems to approve. A two pair hand, with a nice high pair of Kings at that, and on the threshold of perhaps a Full House. Meantime Frank, the board is back to you, two more numbers if you please.

Number 3 it shall be... Great, another $100 into the High Hand jackpot, and the card? Oh my the King of Hearts! And 13? $25 more into the pot, and the card? Is the 6 of Diamonds. Quite an interesting choice for you Frank. How are you going to play it? Which 2 cards do you take to add to your hand?

The Queen of Clubs and the King of Hearts

(cheers and applause) Frank is proving he knows exactly how to play our game. That's the exact right and necessary strategy. Frank stole away that King to make it more difficult for Jonathan to achieve a full house. Furthermore, if there is another Queen to be had, Frank could still pull out 3 of a kind which would beat 2 pairs, however, Jonathan gets to go first right here and now for the final card. And each player will also have one last chance to add to the High Hand jackpot, which is currently worth $525. Jonathan, turn over one more card please, then I will ask you to select one more card to complete your hand.

Number 12 it is... Looking for another King or a deuce for a Full House... No money attached... No..., it is the Jack of Spades. A pair of Jacks and a pair of sixes, nothing will really help your hand nor Frank's, so by default we'll give you that Jack of Spades, giving you 2 Pair as your final hand Jonathan. Frank, in order to win this hand, you'll need to find either a Queen or a King. What number Frank?
