Freeze

So we freeze at the 8, and go into our third question of the round. grapebuy789, this question goes to you, and we asked 100 last-minute shoppers: "Do you regret not having done your shopping on Black Friday, Cyber Monday or any earlier time?"How many of them said yes?

I'll say 34.

It's 34 for grapebuy789. ding!mringgenberg, is the actual number higher or lower than 34?

It's Lower

Post by Bill Skinner on Dec 3, 2017 23:21:45 GMT -5
mringgenberg thinks it's lower. ding! And the actual number of last-minute shoppers who feel regretful about not shopping earlier is... ding-ding-ding!...39, so it's not lower, and grapebuy789 will start at the 8 he froze at earlier. Would you like to play the 8 or change it?

Post by grapebuy789 on Dec 4, 2017 7:10:32 GMT -5
I'd like to change the 8.

Sure, let's change that rotten snowman! And this time, it becomes...
(7 ♠)
...a 7. Oh boy, you're going to have to guess on that one. Is the next card higher or lower?

Oh boy. I'm going to try lower.

Lower than a 7?
(A ⋄)
buzz!
No, you got burned by an Ace once again! So control goes over to mringgenberg, but he must play his 10 right away. Is the next card higher or lower?

Lower than a 10?
(4 ⋄)
ding!
Yes, you got it! Now would you like to continue or freeze?

Higher

Higher than a 4?
(7 ♣)
ding!
Right again! So now you are one card away from winning the first round. What's your decision here?

I'll Freeze
Post by Bill Skinner on Dec 5, 2017 9:52:13 GMT -5
We'll freeze at the 7, and get into our last question of the round. Since neither of you have cleared your row, this will be a sudden-death question, and whoever wins this will then have the choice to play their own cards with the option to change their base or pass to their opponent, who must guess the next card right away. A wrong guess will win the round for your opponent. Now mringgenberg, we asked 100 people: "Do you get sad because a loved one passed away during the holidays?"How many of them said yes?

27
Post by Bill Skinner on Dec 5, 2017 12:06:40 GMT -5
mringgenberg says 27. ding!grapebuy789, is the actual number higher or lower than 27?
Post by grapebuy789 on Dec 5, 2017 14:36:15 GMT -5
That's gotta be higher.
Post by Bill Skinner on Dec 5, 2017 14:59:50 GMT -5
And grapebuy789 believes that it is higher. ding! The actual number of people who get sad over the loss of a loved one during the holidays is... ding-ding-ding!...67, so it is higher, and grapebuy789 has an important decision to make. Now, you can play your own cards with the option to change your base, or you can pass control to mringgenberg, in which case he must play his own cards right away.
Post by grapebuy789 on Dec 5, 2017 20:36:15 GMT -5
Let's change it.
Post by Bill Skinner on Dec 5, 2017 23:07:05 GMT -5
So I assume that you're playing. I meant to say that we'll start with a fresh card, since you guessed incorrectly last time. First of all, your new base is...
(K ♥)
...a King. Now do you still want to change the card or play it?
Post by grapebuy789 on Dec 6, 2017 6:52:05 GMT -5
Yes I still want to change the card.
Post by Bill Skinner on Dec 6, 2017 10:03:02 GMT -5
And so the King becomes...
(9 ♥)
...a 9. Now you have to play out the row, and remember, one wrong call and mringgenberg wins the round. So what is your call on the next card?

Lower
Post by Bill Skinner on Dec 6, 2017 23:42:03 GMT -5
This is very important, because if you are wrong, then mringgenberg wins the round. It has to be lower for you to continue, or the round ends right here. Now is it lower than a 9?
(7 ♣)
ding!
Yes, it is, and now it's time to make your next guess here. Is the last card higher or lower than a 7?

Lower

Once again, if you're wrong, mringgenberg wins. Is it lower than a 7? (6 ♠) ding-ding-ding!(1978 CS Win Cue) And finally, grapebuy789 wins a hard-fought first round, but mringgenberg gave it his best as well. (1978 CS Theme) When we return, we'll give mringgenberg a chance to catch up in the second round, with new questions. Back after this.

We're back with a new round of questions, and the first one will go to mringgnbeerg. We asked 100 retail store employees:
"Do you hate having to work on the day after Christmas to take returned gifts?"
How many of them said yes?
