As well you should. Total winnings for just one show... ...$36,250. (audience cheers) David, remember, if you can win five straight games, you'll win an instant $40,000. In total, you could win more than $200,000 before all's said and done. Believe it or not -- we have time for an audience game. We'll play it -- after this. (theme plays; audience cheers)

Okay, friends, we seek an audience game player. Since I'll be off the grid all of Friday, the game's gonna run slow on this end. But, hopefully, not too slow. Next player to respond and hasn't played in this episode gets to play. Who's in?

(theme plays; audience applause) We're back on The $40,000 Chain Reaction. David's backstage counting up the $30,000 he won in the final chain. Meantime, we welcome our audience game player -- Brian Law. (audience cheers) Bryan, before we start the game, please tell us about yourself.

Well, let's see if this speed chain holds the key to a $5000 payoff. It's been awhile since we've played this. So let me explain. Here we have a four-word chain. Each link contains only one word -- and when revealed in full, the chain yield three different phrases of two words each. For example... (ding)FOOD, CHAIN, REACTION and TIME eventually gives us the phrases "food chain", "Chain Reaction" and "reaction time". Now, let's clear the board, please. Bryan, in *your* speed chain, we'll only spot you the top and bottom words -- and the initial letters of the middle two words. You'll get one chance to solve both words in the middle. Solve one word correctly -- and you win $500. But if you correctly solve both in that one try, you win a fast $5000. (audience cheers)So let's set up your speed chain. (ding)Chain starts with ROBERT and ends with TIDE. Bryan, your seven seconds of study time will begin when the initial letters of the remaining two links pop in. When the buzzer sounds, I'll call for your answer. Your initials and your time -- come -- now. (timer with seven seconds is activated; buzz)And that's time. For $5000, Bryan, what are those two words in the middle?

Well -- it's not five *thousand* -- but $500 beats getting nothing. We also have a fine gift for you -- a copy of our home game. Friends, until next time, when David defends his crown for the first time, this is Doug Morris speaking on the chain gang's behalf by saying -- make it a great day, keep the faith -- and treasure your loved ones. (theme plays; audience applause)
