I've been pretty inspired by Greggo's Game Shows on YouTube, where he's been hosting game shows at cons, and a friend and I decided to do our own. So at a furry convention in Seattle this month, I'm gonna be hosting a version of Family Feud, using the Family Feud Challenge Game Control. Any tips anyone might be able to share for being a live host?

I've never hosted a game show at a convention. I did however conduct a game one time at an office holiday party and it was a blast. I have a gift of feeding off of other people. It's a gift I picked up from watching game shows as a youth, and from listening to the likes of Groucho Marx and Johnny Carson.
Enjoy it and be yourself is the only advice I can give. If something goofs up or there are flubs, embrace them and laugh them off, much the way Chuck Woolery often would.
Let us know how it goes please. Do you plan on having a video of this event? I would love to see it!
Best,
Bill

Well, unfortunately this year I wasn't able to get video, but I'll let ya know how it went - We had a big turnout, and we did 3-person teams (mainly cause our big prize was three free memberships to next year's con). I hosted 4 out of 5 games, and it was a lot of fun. Of course, I started with a quick dedication to the man without whom FF would not be possible, the Kissing Bandit himself, Richard Dawson. Then we got into the game itself. We decided to go with modern Family Feud for the round structure (Single, Single, Double, Triple, Sudden Death). As for my hosting style, I think I was channeling a bit of Ray Combs mixed with just a dash of Steve Harvey's 'what the hell, player' moments. As for the overall game, the first three were the main tournament - 4 teams battled it out to be the final 2, and the winning team in the final got the con badges Then we threw in two free play games for good measure. And just for authenticity, each game did also have a full Fast Money round (even though they were just for show, as we didn't have any other prizes, as this was our pilot run). Just for a bit of fun, I'll post a few questions we used during the game, see if you can come up with some good answers! We asked 100 furries these questions: 1) Name something people brag about being really big. 2) Name a traffic sign that describes your love life. 3) Name a television game show. 4) Name a fruit with the word 'berry' in its name. 5) Name an animal that begins with the letter "T".

Let's see how you did! I asked you to name something people brag about being really big. You said... *bloop* "-censored-". Survey says... ***** 8 8 people said that answer Name a traffic sign that describes your love life. You said...*bloop* "One Way". Survey says... One Way 6 Name a television game show. You said... *bloop* Family Feud. Survey says... Family Feud 22 Name a fruit with the word "berry" in its name. You said...*bloop* Strawberry. Survey says... Strawberry 32 That was the number one answer for that question Name an animal that begins with the letter "T". You said...*bloop* Turtle. Survey says... Turtle 20 For a total of...88 points and one number one answer - not bad!

Sounds like you had fun. What kind of convention was this held, if I may ask?
I've worked with Greggo at least one anime con per year since 2012. (Our paths would've first crossed paths in 2002 -- but didn't due to an unlucky situation beyond his control.) I'll reunite with him next month at an anime convention here in Mississippi (which means I'll have to take some time off from here; more on that in the appropriate channel in a few weeks' time).
Greggo's shows are worth attending in person -- even if you're like me and don't know a whole heckuva lot of anime. I am learning though.
As for how I'd host FF at a con or party (more likely the latter), I'd play just the one game with two questions at "even stakes", two more questions at "double points" and further questions at triple the stakes until a team reaches 500 points. If I'm not mistaken, C.J. Bojangles hosted a net version of Feud under this format.

The show was held at Rainfurrest, a furry con out in the Seattle area And we had a lot of people saying good things about our panel, we're definitely planning on holding it again next year. Course, it helps to have the game control software to work with, lends that air of authenticity to the game

I've got the "original series" game control. Definitely feels like the Richard Dawson days. (If only I had female contestants to kiss.)

I've got both FF Classic and FF Challenge, I used the Challenge version without Bullseye because I preferred the animations and the fact that the Challenge version has the Fast Money answer reveal sound effect

Good news! Not only did we host the show again at the con this year, one of our audience members actually got video! (I was planning to, but had a technical screw-up with my phone). Ladies and gents, here is the link!

By the way, while I'm waiting for feedback on this...in case the guy in the thumbnail image (from game #3) looks familiar, I'll share this video and it should become clear...we had a veteran game show player in our midst.
