Welcome, one and all, to Episode 4 of Wheel of Fortune: Diamond Deluxe! It has been a while, so a few notes are in order.

1. It's the premiere of our Crossword Puzzle. It will be played either in Rounds 1 or 2, but it won't appear in every episode. Anyone who solves the puzzle gets a chance to play either Crossword Extra or Crossword Getaway.

The Crossword Extra: The Crossword Extra is a bonus word played after the puzzle is solved. Similar to the Daily Double in Jeopardy!, the Extra clue was revealed upon correctly guessing another word. The contestant then wagered all or part of his/her score (or up to $1,000, or $2,000—depending on the round—if he/she had less than those amounts). A correct answer added the wager, while an incorrect answer deducted it.

The Crossword Getaway: If this played, a trip will be placed in the bank to the one who solved that particular word. Trips were usually to resort destinations anywhere in the United States. If a Getaway-designated word went unsolved, the prize was not awarded.

2. The Diamond Vault Bonus Feature now has more Jackpots to be awarded in addition to the Diamond Jackpot: Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, & Pearl. However, it will be harder to reach that area both in the Feature, and in the Main Game.

3. Wheel now has its own online store where you can buy Wheel-branded clothes and other items. Wheel E-Store

Now here's how the Last Chance puzzles work. It's my way of trying to prevent contestants from leaving the show without having solved any puzzles. A consolation prize of $1000 is given to those who have not solved any of the puzzles but can get a cash bonus by solving a Last Chance puzzle, which works similarly to a Toss-Up only it's a one-player puzzle. The cash bonus starts at $1000 but decreases by $100 for each second that elapses. Even so, more letters are added every second, eventually filling up the puzzle when time runs out. The contestant may ring in when s/he thinks s/he knows the answer. If s/he's right, s/he gets the cash bonus. If s/he does not, or if time runs out, s/he still leaves with the $1000 consolation prize and a possible chance at a redemption episode the following season.
