Welcome to the very first episode of Gambit in 2017! Our defending champion Michael C. Koontz is back after the Holiday break. In just 3 days, he has amassed a grand total of $466,048 in cash and prizes.
Right now, we're looking for a challenger to play against Michael for a shot at playing Beat The Dealer for $1 million. While Jennifer Love Hewitt has the day off, we'll have a special guest card dealer at the start of this episode. For now-- if you want to play against Michael, please let me know and be on standby.

And now, from Television City in Hollywood... here's your host-- Tony Lane![CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]Tony: Thanks, Jim. Happy New Year, everybody... and welcome to Gambit. Happy New Year, everyone! It's been a very long time since I was the card dealer in "Catch 21". Now that I'm the guest dealer on Gambit, I'm sure they'll be more than just catching 21. Let's meet our two players... [CONTESTANTS' INTRO]Our challenger for today is a native of Wales, Scotland. Meet SAM RYAN![CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]And playing against Sam is our returning champion. Making his fourth appearance, he has a grand total of $466,048 in cash and prizes. He's currently unemployed, but enjoys writing and reading books. Well, I'm from Pennsylvania and I read and write many stories. Also, in my free time, I like to watch game shows and play games as well. Also, I'd like to add that I'm so happy to be here again!

Good luck to you, Michael. Before we start the game, we'll take a short break. When our presentation continues, we'll play the first round and see if either Sam or Michael wins the first game of the match with either a 21 or a blackjack. We'll begin round 1 of Gambit following this commercial time out. Stick around, folks... *back to studio* [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]Welcome back to Gambit. Now that Michael and Sam are ready, let's begin the first round with a look at the big money board on my podium. [CASH REGISTER RINGS]Whoever gets a combination of at least three cards for a total of 21 wins the Any 21 Jackpot of $7,500. [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]But... if you get an Ace and either a 10 or face card, you'll win the Blackjack Bonus worth $10,000! [MORE CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]And before the start of the show, the lab rats at Tandem Tech, a RANDOM.ORG company, have given our card dealer Mikki a deck of 54 super sized playing cards that were shuffled, cut, and sealed for her. She's gonna break the seal right now and reveals the first card as we're ready to begin round 1. Mikki...? Mikki: Our first card in round 1 is the Queen. [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]Tony: What an excellent card. Each correct answer is worth $100 and whoever is closer to 21 (without going over) wins an additional $500. Here comes the first question. Cat, Fish, or Hoss-- What was the nickname of the middle brother on "Bonanza"?You have 24 hours to PM your buzz-code between 1 and 100.

Hoss is correct. [APPLAUSE, DING]And you have 100 bucks, Sam. Do you want to keep the Queen or pass it to Michael?

The challenger keep the Queen for a 10. If your next card is an Ace, you'll win the Blackjack Bonus of $10,000. Mikki won't reveal the next card unless someone answers the next question correctly. So... here it comes. 4, 5, or 6-- How many players make up a basketball team?

24 HOUR WARNING!
If Michael does not send in his buzz-code in less than 4 hours, he will receive a strike one.

If your next card is an Ace, you'll win the $10,000 Blackjack Bonus. Mikki... please reveal Sam's next card. Mikki: Sam... your next card is-- *shows card* --a 6. [AUDIENCE GROANS, APPLAUSE]Tony: The Blackjack Bonus is now out of play. However, you still have a chance to win the Any 21 Jackpot of $7,500. Before I read the next question, you have a decision. Do you want to continue the round or freeze?

Next question...
Bonnie Blair, Janet Evans, or Jackie Joyner Kersee-- Who was the first U.S. woman to win five Olympic gold medals in either the winter or summer games?

Buzz-code answer: 5 Since both Michael and Sam are tied with the buzz-code of 39, we'll go into sudden death to see who was first. [BUZZ-IN]Michael...?

It was Bonnie Blair. 100 bucks goes to Sam. [DING]Sam... you have $300 and a total of 16. A fair warning-- If your next card is at least a 6, you'll end up in a suicidal bust and Michael wins the first round and $500. If your next card is a 5, you'll win the Any 21 Jackpot of $7,500. Do you want to keep the card or pass it to Michael?
