Time now to begin Season 3 of High Rollers. When we ended Season 2, Lia had become the champ and she has a one day total of $15,316. I need a challenger for her, so sign up if you'd like to play.

We are now going to officially begin Season 3 of High Rollers. All deadlines are 48 hours and off we go. (cue intro) Rich: And now, a game of high stakes! Where every decision is a gamble and every move could be your last. High Rollers! (1987 theme) And here's the man with all the action, Mark Liotta! (I come out to a tremendous applause from the audience) Me: Thank you very much, Rich Fields. (Theme fades out) Happy new year to all of you in TV land. And not just in terms of the calendar year either. This is also the first show of our third season of High Rollers here on CBS. And it's because of your continued support by watching our program regularly that we're able to stay on the air. So we thank all of you very much for that. Our champ's been waiting to defend for the last few weeks, but she'll be doing so today against a brand new contestant. Rich, who do we have for Lia to face off against today? Rich: Our challenger today is a college student from the greater Boston area, please welcome Frank Sartori. (audience applauds) Frank will be facing off against returning champion Lia, whose one day total stands at $15,316 cash and prizes! Me: We're delighted to have you here on High Rollers, Frankie. Tell the folks at home a little bit about yourself.

Thank you Mark. I'm 22 years old and I'm from the great state of Massachusetts. I am a full-time college student at UMass Boston studying early childhood education. In my spare time, I enjoy shopping for retro video games, having fun with friends, and I, of course, enjoy game shows.

Ah, very nice indeed. It also says on my card that you do a very good impression of a popular Muppet.

I believe you are referring to The Count. Ah that is one. One Count. And one. One camera. *waves* Hi Mom!

Well, at least the thunder and lightning aren't here. (audience laughs) All right, let's go to work in the first game of this two out of three match. And as we do so, Rich will tell the two of you about some prizes you could walk away with. Rich: In column one, we have a pair of smartphones. These Samsung LG phones include 64 gigabytes of storage and allow you to download your favorite apps from the Google Play store. Retail value: $2,300. In column two, a trip to Spain. You'll enjoy a six night stay at the Ca La Maria bed and breakfast in Barcelona, Spain. Free sightseeing tours as well as $5,000 in spending money are also included. Retail value: $7,528. And in column three, it's $10,000 in cash! That makes the game one board worth a grand total of $19,828 in cash and prizes! Me: Some pretty good prizes on offer to start the year. Let's see what our hot column is for this first game.
5 8 2 4 7 6 3 1 9
It's column one that serves as our hot column for the first game, and here's our first question for this match. This Portuguese navigator was able to find India in 1498, something that Chris Columbus had failed to do six years prior. What was this Portuguese's navigator's name?

That is absolutely correct. Now Frank, since this is a new game, all the numbers are good to roll. So you may roll the dice when ready. (To roll the dice, Frank, what you need to do is hit the blue reply button. Once you do, you should see a dice icon. Click the dice icon twice, then hit the create post button, and your roll result will be determined when the post is made)

And it's a seven. How would you like to clear it off the board?

Let's try the 2 and the 5.

The 2 and the 5 are now gone.

The home video recorder was first introduced in 1972 by what company?

That'll take care of column one.
X 8 X X 7 6 X 1 9
You'll be taking those phones home if you win this first game. Now then, we have another question to get to so let's have a look at it. What's a common name for a jumping, tailless amphibia?

Frank, I am very pleased you got that right or we would have had to send Miss Piggy in here after you. (audience laughs) For the record, toad would have also been acceptable. Now Frank, the bad numbers are 3,4,5,11 and 12 and you may roll the dice or pass them to your opponent.

Okay Lia, you've got some decent odds here but anything can happen. Roll the dice when you're ready.
