pathfinder20 is back for the third time, with a grand total of $27,000 won over the last two episodes. We need him and a new challenger to sign in, so that we can start the show.

And away we go...
(1978 CS Intro)
ERIN HARRIS: Aces are high, deuces are low! Call it right, and win the dough...on Card Sharks! (1978 CS Theme) And now, here's the host of Card Sharks, Bill Skinner!
Thank you once again, Erin Harris, and welcome to another episode of Card Sharks! On the last show, our returning champion pathfinder20 ended up with a two-day total of $27,000 even, after completing another successful Money Cards round, and now he's back for the third time. On the other side is a new challenger looking to put an end to his run, who would be none other than mringgenberg! Now, as you already know, our games are best two out of three, and the winner will play the Money Cards at the end of the show. We will have four questions per contestant for each round, and the objective is to call a series of five cards correctly before your opponent does. If you're ready, let's get into our game right now! The first question for this round will go to the defending champ, pathfinder20. Here it is:
"LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to an upset victory over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Are you happy that Cleveland has its first championship since 1964, or disappointed that the Warriors didn't win the championship after their historic 73-win season?"
How many of those people said that they're happy for Cleveland?

I think a few people are disappointed at the Warriors loss. I really think the fact that the cavaliers ended a 52 year drought is more important. I will say 66 people.

I think it'll be a little higher.

So it's 66 for pathfinder20...
ding!
...and mringgenberg says that the actual number is higher.
ding!
The actual number of people who were happy that the Cavaliers won is...
ding-ding-ding!
...76, so it is higher, and mringgenberg will play his cards first. Let's give a warm welcome to Amber Lancaster, who will deal the cards for pathfinder20, and Tiffany Coyne, who will do the same for mringgenberg! Alright Tiffany, what's mringgenberg's first card, please?
(K ♣)
A King! Now you can play this first card right away, or change it if you want. What would you like to do?

Lower!

|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Jun 28, 2016 16:14:32 GMT -5
So that means you will play it right away. Alright, we're looking for something lower than a King. What is it, Tiffany?
(6 ♥)
ding!
It's a 6! Now, you have the option to keep playing or freeze. What's your decision?

And on we go. Higher than a 6, Tiffany?
(K ♠)
ding!
What do you know, you just got another King! Continue or freeze?

Lower!

Lower than a King again?
(2 ♠)
ding!
Yes, you got a deuce, and you're now one card away from sweeping the first round. So I'll bet you're going to continue again?

Higher!!!!

Post by Bill Skinner on Jun 29, 2016 12:20:57 GMT -5
And if you get this, you will sweep the first round. Is it higher?
(Q ♥)
ding-ding-ding!
(1978 CS Win Cue)
Yes, it is, and you win $1,000 after just one turn. But pathfinder20 will have a chance to get back in the game when we come back, so it's not over. (1978 CS Theme) We'll be back with our second round, after these messages.

Welcome back to Card Sharks, where mringgenberg takes a quick 1-0 lead, but once again we're going to give our defending champion pathfinder20 a chance to catch up and tie this match up. Right now, let's get into our first question for the second round, and this one will go to the challenger, mringgenberg. We asked 100 people this question:
"The Fourth of July is a popular time to travel. This year, do you plan to go out of town or stay in the area?"
Keep in mind that the question refers to traveling at least 75 miles away from the current home area. How many of those people said that they plan to travel out of town?

24

|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Jun 29, 2016 16:31:08 GMT -5
So it's 24 for mringgenberg...
ding!
...and pathfinder20, is the actual number higher or lower than 24?
|
|
|

I feel that gas prices should have a bit to do with travel. I am going to say a bit higher.

|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Jun 30, 2016 9:32:41 GMT -5
And pathfinder20 says it's higher.
ding!
The actual number of people who said that they plan to travel out of town is...
ding-ding-ding!
...39, so it is higher, and pathfinder20 finally gets to play his cards. Now Amber, what is his base card?
(9 ♣)
It's a 9. Would you like to play it now, or change it?
|
|
|
Post by pathfinder20 on Jun 30, 2016 11:54:31 GMT -5
Change card please...
|
|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Jun 30, 2016 12:26:45 GMT -5
And we'll change it. Amber, what's the new card, please?
(A ⋄)
Son of a gun, it's an Ace! Are you calling higher or lower on this? Although I'm suspecting you will go lower there...

Post by pathfinder20 on Jun 30, 2016 14:31:53 GMT -5
Lower please!
|
|
|
Post by Bill Skinner on Jun 30, 2016 14:46:32 GMT -5
I would be surprised if another Ace showed up, but let's see. What is it, Amber?
(6 ⋄)
ding!
A 6. Now are you going to continue or freeze?

|
|

Let's try higher.

Sixes are usually tricky, but higher it is. Is the next card higher than a 6? Show it to us!
(2 ♣)
buzz!
No, that was a 2, and mringgenberg will play his cards now. First off, Tiffany, what's his first card, please?
(Q ♠)
A Queen! You must play this one now, so are you going higher or lower?
