Well, I've decided to take a pause in regular game play so $ale could have its first-ever Tournament of Champions!
* The 9 highest-scoring contestants have been called back to compete in three heats. Gameplay is as normal with the following exceptions: - In CashCard, the prize is replaced with Take $10. This allows you to take $10 from your opponent and add it to your score. - Speaking of CashCard, it will stay at a flat $25,000 all week. - The winner of each heat gets a trip and has a chance to win up to $50,000 in cash by playing Ten-In-A-Row (same rules, dollar values halved). * The three heat winners will play a 2-game final Jeopardy-style. The highest combined score from those two games will win a million dollars cash, a cruise for two around the world, and a very expensive Porsche. They'll also have a chance to win another million in Ten-in-a-Row.
Now, I've used Random.org to randomize the 9 biggest winners. So, for game one, would James Greek, Sam Hodkin, and Matt Ringgenberg please check in?

Not really. As Steve Winwood said in his song Valerie: "I'm the same boy I used to be."

Trying to suck up to the host, I see. (audience chuckles) You know, Valerie is my mother's name, and "Valerie" is one of her favorite songs. I love my mother. In fact, there she is, right in the audience. (camera gets a shot of my mom, who waves and smiles) Hi, Mom. (back to me) OK. I didn't think 25-grand would do that. Too many game shows use the term "life-changing". So, are you ready for more?

OK then, good luck to you.
Sam Hodkin is our next contestant, and he's one of the few international competitors we have in this tournament. He's from Manchester, England, and he's taken us for over $39,000. (audience cheers) Hiya, Sam. Welcome back. So, what's been happening with you since last you left us?

Not a great deal in fairness, continuing the jobhunt and investing those winnings wisely.

Indeed. A large portion of that total is in cash. I imagine that the job market is about the same in the UK as it is in America. Am I right?

[FAME GAME]And with this being the Tournament of Champions, every trip to the Fame Game board could be important. Players, buzz in when you know this famous person. I am an explorer and conquistador, born in 1474 and dead by July 1521. I was born in the village of Santervás de Campos in the northern part of what is now the Spanish province of Valladolid. My family's lineage began with Ponce Vélaz de Cabrera, descendant of count Bermudo Núñez, and Sancha Ponce de Cabrera, daughter of Ponce Giraldo de Cabrera. I appear to have been a member of a distinguished and influential noble family. I served as squire to Pedro Núñez de Guzmán, Knight Commander of the Order of Calatrava. Once the war against the Emirate of Granada ended, there was no apparent need for my military services at home, so, like many of my contemporaries, I looked abroad for my next opportunity. In September 1493, some 1200 sailors, colonists, and soldiers joined Christopher Columbus for his second voyage to the New World. I was one of those people. We visited several islands before arriving at our primary destination in Hispaniola. We anchored on the coast of a large island the natives called Borinquen but would eventually become known as Puerto Rico. I was actively involved in the Higüey massacre, about which friar Bartolomé de las Casas attempted to notify Spanish authorities. (buzzcode and answer, please)
