Welcome one and all to Wheel of Fortune: Diamond Deluxe! Note that we are going through the Pilot series as my friend is creating some wheels for me as we speak.
Now then, let's get to the rules and schedule.
RULES
For the first match, the first player to sign up will be red, the second will be yellow, and the third will be blue. After that, the champion gets a choice of color. If he or she chooses red, the next person in the queue will be yellow, otherwise that person is red. The next person gets the last remaining color. If the champion has retired undefeated, the next person in the queue is red, the person after that is yellow, and the person after that is blue.
For every puzzle, I will choose a word or phrase and give you the category. Every letter in that word or phrase will be represented with a blank white square unless I state that some of the letters will be revealed immediately. Punctuation is always revealed immediately.
TOSS-UPS
There are 3 Toss-Up puzzles (2 in the beginning, and 1 before Round 4). The Introductory Toss-Up is for $2,000 and will be introduced first. And after the Introductions are finished, I will start each match with a toss-up for $2,500 and the right to go first in the main game. The 3 contestants will then PM a buzz-code from 1-100, along with the LEAST number of letters revealed. The person who gets closest to the Magic Number will get to answer. If the person matches the Magic Number, then the value of the Toss-Up doubled.
Due to my schedule, toss-ups may last longer than 72 hours; the first two 24-hour timers are solely to remind me when I'm supposed to put up more letters and any solves between the timer running out and me getting to putting up more letters will be honored. Only the last timer is a hard limit. However, regardless of the actual length of the toss-up round, you get one shot and one shot only at the puzzle.
MAIN GAME
The winner of the tossup (the champion if no one won, or the red player if no one is the champion either) goes first in the first round. What happens next depends on the result of the spin:
- Dollar figure other than $1 million and Diamond Vault: The player will select a consonant (Y counts). If it's there, I will reveal all instances of that letter and credit the player with the amount spun for each occurrence (for example, spinning $500 and guessing a consonant that appears twice wins $1,000). If the consonant does not appear, play passes to the next player. Top dollar in Round 1 is $2,500. Top dollar in Round 2 is $3,500, Top dollar in Round 3 is $4,000. Top dollar is Round 4 is $5,000, and $7,500 is the Top Dollar in Round 5.
- Prize: Same as the above, except not multiplied for each letter occurrence. The prize is then removed from the wheel. To win the prize, the player must solve the puzzle without spinning Bankrupt.
- $1 Million: Same as landing on a prize, but winning it involve several extra steps due to its high value: not only must the player solve the current puzzle without landing on Bankrupt, but he or she must win the main game without landing on Bankrupt, spin $1 Million again in the bonus round, and solve the bonus puzzle (further details are below).
- Free Play: The player may guess any available letter at all (vowels are worth nothing, consonants are worth $500 apiece; $750 in Rounds 3 and up) or even solve the puzzle. If a player picks a wrong letter or solves incorrectly, the player will be allowed to retain his or her turn instead of play passing as usual.
- Lose a Turn: Play passes to the next player.
- Bankrupt: The player loses all money in the round, any unclaimed prizes, the $1 Million wedge or any Diamond Vault item if held, and his or her turn.
- Diamond Vault:Based on the CAR system on the Australia version of Wheel of Fortune during the 2000s.
PHASE 1.
First, you need to pick up a "Diamond Vault" token ("full" space, as opposed to 1/3 for the current MDW) with a picture of a key on it, then solve the puzzle without hitting Bankrupt to keep it, after which it's safe from the black space. Has a face value of $500 per letter.
PHASE 2.
Where the token was, a second "full" wedge (face value of $500) representing a lock will be placed. Similar to the Jackpot wedge, as the player with the "key" must solve immediately after calling a letter on it.
PHASE 3/FINAL PHASE.
After that, a BLACKOUT/DIAMOND VAULT/LOSE 3 TURNS wedge will be placed on the wheel. Landing on the DIAMOND VAULT part has a face value of $500. Also, like the Jackpot wedge, it requires an immediate solve after the letter.
BLACKOUT is like SUPER BANKRUPT; you will LOSE EVERYTHING up to this point.
LOSE 3 TURNS is self-explanatory.
On the Backside of the 3rd phase Diamond Vault wedge (like the $10K and MDW), it will have a LOT OF DIAMONDS in the background.
NOTES!
1. If anyone without the "key" picks up the final wedge and makes it to the Bonus Round, the $100,000 (or in my case, the "Super Jackpot") will be swapped with the "Diamond Vault" Bonus Feature. But if the person who does have the "key" picks it up and wins the game, the Bonus Round will be played for the "Diamond Vault" Bonus Feature, no matter what.
2. Any phases that are not completed can still be done in subsequent rounds, although the third phase can only be achieved in Round 3 or later. The "key" is also replaced if it is lost to Bankrupt in the round that it's picked up.
Also, be on the lookout for these wedges as well...
Power (Philippines): If you land on this and choose a letter that's in the puzzle, you take all the cash (and cardboard) from one of your opponents.
Solve (Malaysia): If you land on this, you must solve the puzzle. Doing so doubles your money. Failing results in Bankrupt.
Vault (BigJon's PC Games): Any cash that's been lost to BANKRUPT will be added to the Vault (different from Diamond Vault). If you land on this, choose a letter in the puzzle, and solve in the same round, you will win all the cash inside the Vault that starts at $10,000.
Then there's the Invincibility token which, when used, protects you from a Bankrupt you've just landed on.
When a player has at least $250 ($500 in Round 4 and higher), he or she may buy a vowel at that price. If it's there, the turn continues; otherwise, it passes. It is a flat rate; whether it's one, many, or none at all, it's still $250 ($500 in Round 4 and up).
If at any time during their turns players believe they know the answer, they may solve instead of spinning or buying. The solution, which must be in bold, must be exactly as I have it with no misspellings or any words added or deleted. There are three exceptions to this rule:
- In the rare event that a puzzle contains an accent mark, the accent mark is not required for a correct solve, but it counts against you if the accent mark is incorrect or you place an accent on a letter that has none. For example, if the category is FOOD AND DRINK and the puzzle is HABANERO CHILI, I will penalize for HABAÑERO CHILI since it's not spelled like that in Spanish.
- If a line ends with a hyphen, a likely reason for it is because I needed a line break there to get the puzzle to fit; words written across multiple lines must be written as if there were no need for line breaks.
- For the Question Puzzle/Puzzler, if the category is Fill In the Number for example, you may replace each # in the puzzle with its corresponding digit to save space when answering the bonus. I will judge whether you solved the alphabetic portion of the puzzle first; if you did, then I will check the number and award you the bonus if it is correct.
If the solution is correct, the player banks all cash and prizes and wins the round, while losing players return all unclaimed cash and prizes (the $1 Million wedge and/or the Diamond Vault item is returned only if picked up in the same round the puzzle is lost).
SHOPPING/DIAMOND DOLLARS FEATURE:
For the first 3 rounds, after a player solves a puzzle, that player will also have a chance to either:
1. Go "Shopping" by picking one of 7 themed "stores" (One of them has a "Shopper's Special", which features a mini-vacation). The value of the prize will NOT be added to the player's score, but it will be kept nonetheless.
2. Pick one 7 "Diamonds" on a large Diamond Box. The values are between $500 to $4,000. One of them says "Triple Diamond", which activates the WOF Triple Diamond slot machine.
CONTINUATION OF GAMEPLAY:
Round 2 is started by the player after the person who started Round 1, and Round 3 is started by the player after that. After that, a tossup for $3,000 will be played, the winner of which starts the next round. If someone matches the Magic #, the value of the Toss-Up will be TRIPLED. If nobody wins the $3,000 tossup, whoever started Round 1 starts the round after the $3,000 tossup.
In the event solves ALL THREE Toss-Ups, the player earns a $2,500 bonus, for a total of $10,000.
SPECIAL ROUNDS
- Round 1: JACKPOT ROUND - A Jackpot space will be placed on the wheel, and the starting value of the jackpot will be $5,000. Each time the wheel is spun, I will add that amount to the Jackpot (only wedges that actually state a dollar value affect the jackpot). The amount is added at a flat rate, whether the consonant appears once, more than once, or not at all. A player who lands on Jackpot and calls a correct consonant may take $500 per consonant or immediately attempt to solve the puzzle. A correct solve adds the jackpot to the player's winnings.
- Round 2: MYSTERY ROUND - Two Mystery Wedges will be added to the wheel. If a player lands on one of them, then after choosing a correct consonant, the player may choose to take $1,000 per letter or turn over the wedge to reveal either a prize or Bankrupt. Both are treated as normal and both Mystery Wedges will be removed from the wheel.
- Round 3: EXPRESS ROUND - An Express wedge will be added to the wheel. A player who lands on Express and calls a correct consonant earns $1,000 per consonant and will be given the opportunity to board the Express. If the Express is boarded, the contestant may, without having to spin the wheel, call any letter (earning $1,000 apiece for each consonant and paying $750 for each vowel) and continue to do so while on the Express. However, any incorrect guess while on the Express incurs the same penalties as given by landing on Bankrupt with the addition that the player is taken off the Express, AND you will LOSE THE NEXT TURN as well. If you climb on the Express AND SOLVE THE PUZZLE IMMEDIATELY, and gets it right, the player will then be taken a Special Express Bonus Game for a chance to win up to $100,000 in cash.
- During any one of the first 3 rounds, one of these will occur...
- Question Puzzle: The person who solves the puzzle may answer a bonus question related to the puzzle for an additional $2,500. Answering the bonus question is the only time in the whole game that I will not penalize for misspelling the answer.
- Prize Puzzle: The puzzles are now usually merely related to the prize. Prize Puzzles have always been indicated by a higher-pitched version of the puzzle chimes, and a bug reading "Prize Puzzle".
- Puzzler: The Puzzler answer was related to the puzzle immediately before it, with the category and about half of the letters revealed. The contestant who solved the corresponding round then had 12 hours to solve the Puzzler for a $3,000 bonus, during which the Bonus Round beeps played. If the Puzzler was in Round 1, this typically meant that Round 1's answer would be extremely short (usually under 10 letters), sometimes resulting in the Puzzler being longer than the answer it preceded. Oddly, Puzzlers almost always used only one line, even if they were the type of puzzle that would normally use two.
SPEED-UP
The wheel will be spun at Maximum Power, and vowels are worth nothing; consonants are each worth $1,000 plus the amount spun. If the wheel lands on Bankrupt, Lose a Turn, or Free Play, I will spin again.
On your turn, you may call any letter. If it's there, you will then have 24 hours to solve or pass. At the end of the speedup, the person with the most money in cash and prizes wins and goes on to the bonus round. If there is a tie, the tied players go into a tossup for the right to play the bonus round.
House Minimums for solving the puzzle is $1,000, and the minimum for the game overall is $2,000.
BONUS ROUND
You will spin the wheel one last time to determine your bonus round prize. If you make it to the bonus round with the $1 Million wedge, that becomes your top prize; otherwise the top prize is $200,000. Also, the Diamond Vault will replace both/either the $100,000 and/or $200,000.
The Bonus Round Distributions are as follows (FOR THE PILOT SERIES ONLY!):
$30,000 x4
$35,000 x3
$40,000 x2
$45,000
$50,000
$60,000
$75,000
$100,000
$200,000
CAR x4
TRIP AROUND THE WORLD x2
3 BONUS ROUND PRIZES
(Both $100K and $200K will be replaced by the Million if you have it).
After the spin, I will show the puzzle and reveal all instances of R, S, T, L, N, E. I will then ask you for three consonants and one vowel. (If the Invincibility token has been brought out here, then you'll get an extra letter, but it comes with a price). After you make your four selections, I will put them up. (If the WILD card has been brought up then, you'll call an extra consonant.) To win the prize, you must solve the puzzle within 48 hours. You have five chances to solve it.
Champions retire after three matches or winning the $1,000,000 prize or winning the Super/Mega Jackpot at the Diamond Vault Bonus Feature.
(I'll give you more explanation about the Diamond Vault when we get there).
IMPORTANT NOTES
- If you go 48 hours without an action, I will prod you. If you do not respond to the prod within 24 hours, you lose your turn and get a strike. (Exception starting with the tenth match: You have 24 hours to call a letter in the speedup round, and I will not prod you in this case.) Two strikes and you're out of the round; three strikes and you're out of the game. (The game continues without you—I will not replace players mid-match. If two drop out, the remaining player plays against the house for the rest of the match and will be allowed five misses per puzzle, starting from when the second player is eliminated.)
- Please do not edit your posts. I must rule all edited guesses as incorrect and assume that any edited spin was originally one that was going to land on Bankrupt. Caught edits also result in a strike.
- Below the board are the letters that have not been picked yet. Please pay attention to this as if you guess a letter guessed already, you lose your turn. There are two exceptions to this rule:
- I will tell you if there are no more consonants or no more vowels, but forgetting this incurs no penalty, even if it would if there were that type of letter left.
- If I forget to remove a letter from the used letter board and you call it, you will be allowed to pick a replacement. If the mod error occurs in the main game and it's a consonant, your replacement guess must be another consonant. If it's the main game and the affected letter is a vowel, you will not be charged for the vowel and you may either buy another vowel, spin the wheel, or solve the puzzle. (Note that you WILL be charged for repeating a vowel I remembered to remove from the used letter board, i.e. the penalty is $500 and loss of your turn.) Please note, however, that I update the used letter board when I update the picture of the puzzle board. If I do not update the picture because I do not have my files with me, you are expected to keep track of what letters have been called since the last such update.
- If you guess a vowel on any wheel spin other than Free Play or try to buy a consonant, you lose your turn (and $250/$500 if you do the latter).
