Well, I'm an aspiring game show host, looking to become the next Bob Barker, Peter Tomarken or Jim Perry. In my spare time, I like to host game show parties. Some of my more popular games are Press Your Luck, Family Feud and Sale of the Century.

Wow. Those are all three great choices. (the two of us fistbump) Now, I host $ale. What format do you use? The shopping, the Winners' Board...?

I use Shopping, but I use the prices from the pre-speed Round shopping format, meaning it would take $600 to win the lot, and I place all the prizes before the lot, not the Cash Jackpot. Wouldn't want anyone chickening out from a whole heap of cash and prizes.

Oh, so you're using the quasi-1985 syndicated format. (to the audience) For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, and I'm sure there are a lot of you, look this up on YouTube. (back to Hunter) Now, Hunter, why do you think NBC had to go and switch to the Winners' Board and Winner's Big Money Game? Those were terrible bonus round formats.

Well I guess, from what I heard on the Internet, Reg Grundy Productions was pressured by NBC to utilize a "proper" endgame to Sale, which was why they implemented the Winner's Board and Winner's Big Money Game. If I had implemented the Winner's Board, instead of giving the champ $50,000 for winning their final game after clearing the board, I'd keep the Cash Jackpot, much like the Australian version did.

Right. And the Winner's Big Money Game was actually borrowed from a pilot hosted by some guy named Michael Burger.

That's correct. The pilot was called "Matchmates", also produced by Grundy. It was 5 puzzles in 25 seconds, but the puzzles had 8 words instead of 6, and that game did fit in with the concept of the pilot.

Whereas it didn't on $ale. But.... really, we shouldn't be talking about stuff like this around Sam. You see, where ol' Sammy comes from, they don't have six-figure cash jackpots and Winners' Boards and all that. And why didn't they, Sam?

Quite simply, prize limits restricted what could be won, although the 90s version did offer slightly better cars.

Oh, only "slightly better" cars. See, this is why Millionaire was so hot in the UK. Anyway, now it's time to play our game. By the way, the Secret Word was "Wall". Nobody said it, so I keep the money.
Here are the categories you can choose from, Hunter.
[Arts & Literature] [Geography]
[Science & Nature] [Miscellaneous]
Which one do you want?

Nope, I have that already. (I pull out a pair of scissors from my desk and snip off Sam's tie, audience laughs)

(I hold up the cut pieces of Sam's tie) That's right, I have most of it. Well, you heard what the man said, Hunter. Both you and James will be playing the bonus round right after these messages, so help me God. ("HFCS" remix starts up again) (cheers and applause) (fade to commercial)
(fade in) (cheers and applause) Greg: Well, we're back with our two big winners, and they have their tablets ready. All right, I'm going to ask one question. You'll each write down your answer on the tablet and hit send [translation: PM them to me]. If you're right, you'll get a pick of one of three screens here. One of them multiplies your money by three for an augmented total of $24,000; one of them multiplies your money by five for an augmented total of $40,000; and one of them will win you this! Burton? (A hip-hop instrumental remix of "I Always Get My Man" from Horse Feathers plays) Burton: (VO) It's the 2015 Chrysler 200S, the next-generation midsize sedan designed, engineered and built to compete with the very best vehicles in the industry. It comes with standard features including 9-Speed 9HP48 Automatic Transmission, plus we're including the Navigation and Sound Group I. This truly is America's import. From Chrysler, at the intersection of design and technology! Plus, we're putting TEN THOUSAND SILVER DOLLARS in the TRUNK! That makes this prize package worth $41,360! Good luck.(audience cheers) Greg: And Burton's not lying. You can drive off tonight with (in a pale imitation/mockery of Burton) TEN THOUSAND SILVER DOLLARS in the trunk. Open the trunk! (someone opens the trunk to reveal 10,000 silver dollars) See, I wouldn't lie. Now, I'll give you fifteen seconds (12 hours) to decide on a single answer. Think carefully and please, no help from the audience. (the lights dim) And certainly no consulting each other. This is every man for himself. For a chance at a big prize, what is the westernmost national capital in the Americas? (softer "thinking" version of "Hooray for Captain Spaulding" plays) (the contestants write down their answers) (please PM me your answer, James and Hunter)

OK, let's see what each of you said. You both say Mexico City, and you're both right! (audience cheers, win cue plays) All right, that means you each get to pick one of our three screens. You must each pick a different number. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ]
James, since you were the first to get to $8,000; you get to pick first.
